Okay, so if you'ins had your choice of who to build your WR core around who would it be? I guess we have to limit this to only active WR's and certainly age would become a factor. Maybe I should just ask who you think is the best WR in the game right now....

That said I would go with Marvelous Marv, but its a tough call. The guy is money. Plus I like the fact that he leads by example rather than his mouth. Not that I didn't like the Sharpie incident, or the elbow drop from earlier today! This should have been a poll, but bahhh, I'm too lazy to go back now. Let the record show that I'm also a fan of Torry Holt (NC biased thing again).

And as a side note has anyone ever seen an interview with Marvin? Even when he creamed the receptions record I don't ever remember seeing him speak. Curious as to what the guy sounds like. I sometimes wonder if he has that twang Avery Johnson/Karl Malone thing going.

I like Randy Moss.

Hands down Randy Moss. Not even a contest. He's young, experienced, and when he keeps his mouth shut, and not running people over, he's the best WR in football.

For his age (and all other factors ofcourse) Randy Moss would be my first choice WR.

He maybe cocky and arrogant but he gets open and makes some nice catches.

What about Keyshawn? LOL I'd have to agree with the Randy Moss pick. He's just amazing!

Another vote for Torry Holt. Quietly among the league leaders in almost every category.
And when you absolutely need a catch, there is no one better than Ricky Proehl.

Marvin Harrison, closely followed by Randy.

ps...isnt this kinda hard to judge, when there are very good receivers who have just god awful QB's throwing up absolute shit to most of the receivers in the league? just an observation.

Good point, but the awesome WR's will manage to snatch even the toughest throws, at least IMHO. Which WR with God-awful QB's are you refering to. I'm thinking....

There's much more to a WR than running precise routes and making unbelievable catches (although I completely agree that Moss ranks up there). Let's not forget about WR's that can lay down good blocks too and give 100% on EVERY play. Did anyone catch TO's downfield block a couple of weeks ago? Or how about Hines Ward? That guy is an absolute soldier. Hm, this brings on a new facet. What about WR's that can PR, KR, play special teams, play QB, or what have you??

Randy Moss is one of the few that I havent seen bitch about not getting enough touches.

depends on how you want to look at this... Moss, TO and Harrison are all amazing WR. I would say if you want to look at pure talent you have to say moss, he runs faster and jumps higher. If he had a quaterback like manning he would distroy anything that Harisson has done

There are a lot of ways you can go here.

If you want an all-around receiver who can catch, run his routes, and block when the ball isn't thrown to him, then Hines Ward (sucks :D).

If you want a dependable receiver that will catch the ball, and do it quietly on and off the field, you go with Marvin Harrison.

If you want the guy who WILL catch the ball, no matter where it is thrown, and you couldn't care lees about on- or off-field problems, you want Randy Moss.

If you want a receiver who can barely run routes, can't catch a ball thrown directly at him, but can make a leaping one-handed grab before getting up and running for 50 yards, you want Travis Taylor ;) :D

there's so many good receivers out there it's really a toss up. Sure you have TO (my fav) Moss, Ward, Harrison, and Chambers (there I said it) but everything has to go right for a wide receiver to be good. The O line has to block, the qb has to check his routes, and the defense has to slip a little bit. Other than that it's all about raw talent and TO and Moss are very similar in that aspect.

Chad Johnson would be great if he wasn't with the Bengals. Hes doing helluva job there now.

1) Marvin Harrison - Runs the best routes, makes the toughest catches, and does it all very, very, very quietly.

2) Terrell Owens - Big. Powerful. Fast. TO does it all, and he is unafraid to run over the middle. He also is one of the best blocking WR's in the league.

3) Randy Moss - He is fast and can jump. That's about it. He can't go over the middle like Owens, he can't make the catches like Harrison, but he can run downfield very fast and jump higher than his opponent.

Marvin Harrison. That's not to say that Owens and Moss are not good receivers, it's just that how many times have you seen Harrison run a crossing pattern, knowing he is about to get hammered, and still make the catch. And he's not nearly the size of a TO or Moss.

You never heard about the Randy ratio? About a year ago, he was upset because he wasn't seeing the ball enough, so the Vikings came up with some percent (I think it was like 40%) of all passes that would be thrown in his direction.

Marvin by far. TO and Moss are glory hounds and lok to have their names in the stats. Marvin does what does best, act like a professional and catch balls like no other, he is on pace to break Rices' record and the man is a gentleman. The only thing about Hines is that he has never had a good quaterback to throw him the ball. Harrison is the type of guy you would build a team around because not only will he produce but will lead.

I'd go with Hines ward, Marv and TO as my top three probably taking marvin harrison as my top pick

Wow I am surprised no one has mentioned David Boston, not a big fan of him myself, but the guys is a monster. If he could ever have anyone to throw to him, well even maybe at least on a better team( seeing as he had plummer throwing to him with the 3 seconds he had before the offensive line collapsed on him).

I personally like Marvin, the guys is a class act! Don't get me wrong Moss is incredible but he is one bitch slapp away from 10 to 20.

Uh not to be mean but did you totally miss the randy ratio? As far as best im thinkin harrison and possibly TO. Anyone remember his endaround last year that he broke out?

What about Boldin from Arizona, he is money and a rookie. For a vetran, what about Issac Bruce?

yea if you need a WR to set blocks, david boston is the guy. he can catch too, like cas said, and would probably be pretty damn good on a good team. But i as well would go with harrison

Where is the #1 receiver on the list? ...anyone heard of Torry Holt? (I know grayman and TitleFight have)

Holt is leading the league in receiving yards (beating Moss, #2), and Holt has to deal with Bulger as QB (I am from St. Louis and Bulger cannot pass anymore, his longballs are incredibly inaccurate) and Holt's 40 yard TD catch was just awesome (He was running forward, stopped, turned around in the end zone, re-adjusted and caught the ball inches off the ground)

Marvin is VERY VERY close 2nd I give the edge to T.O. cause I think speed they are both probably the same route running goes to marvin but hands size and strength have to go to T.O.

Moss.

My list:

1) Randy Moss (raw ability this man is unbeatable)
2) Torry Holt (one of the hardest working and most dependable guys around)
3) Marvin Harrison (best route runner around IMO)

To me these are the three guys that stand out the most. For all the people that talk bout Randy's mouth. You've gotta admit... he has been much quieter and much more mature this season. Hopefully this will be a continuing trend. Now if only the Vikings could rediscover that fun little thing called defense :(

Agree on Moss... Hopefully a year from now i will be able to say Larry Fitzgerald. Amazing athelete. People thought boldin had a good rookie year. I believe Fitz could single handedly turn a team around... Falcons.... Vick to Fitzgerald. Vicks scrambling would give fitz so much time to dominate his DB's

Marvin is professional, which is admirable, as a die hard Jerry Rice fan, I enjoy it a lot. However, on 4th and whatever, I would rather have Randy Moss going out for a pass.

Forget about it...... T.Owens is the sickest in the NFL. I also like him because he's a showboatin, cocky, s.o.b.. But yeah T.O. #1.

depends on my offense,if I have a stretch the ball down field offense Moss, a good balanced attack harrison
as far as T.O. drops too many balls, I do think he is the best once he catches a ball.
I think Holt, Stallworth (when Healthy), ward, Moulds, Chad Johnson, and Joe horn can be mentioned in this same discussion

honorable mention to Moss (Santana), Jerry Porter, mason, Toomer, Boldin, and charles rodgers. If they were on different offenses/or more consistant.

If you were really serouis about this and you were really building an offensive threat I would look towards the rookies/second/third yearers that are stepping up to take the place of some needed catches.

Last year i watched a rookie by the name of Javon Walker step up and now he's a huge threat for the Green Bay Offense. If I were going to start someone as my strongside WR then it would have to be a young Antonio Freeman or Javon Walker.

Moss is the best reciever hands down, leads the recievers in TD's and will one day rival Rice as the best of all time. P.S. the Randy ratio was a trend the coaches noticed, in all the games that the Vikes lost the trend showed that Moss recieved less then 40% of the passes.

Wrong, wrong, couldn't be more wrong.

At the start of last year, Mike Tice created the "Randy Ratio" because HE felt Moss wasn't getting the ball enough (this is a ploy to make Moss happy in Minnesota seeing as though he was complaining two years ago about not getting the ball enough.) The goal was to throw to Moss on 40% of the pass plays the Vikings executed, the end result however was that it bombed horribly and took away from the gameplan.

So, no more "Randy Ratio."
