OSU Buckeyes Football Program in trouble again???
So my question is, I hear all the trash talking about how ruthless and classless Miami's Football Program is when the worst thing thats happening is Kellen Winslow's mouth... where there is a series of problems happening down in the valley recently....
Maurice Clarret.... Robert Reynolds.... now Santonio Holmes and Troy Smith.... uh-oh is OSU becoming a classless program like miami?? (very sarcasically put) My point is every team has there problems...not just miami... I think miami's bad reputation was put to rest almost a decade ago.... anyways... here's the link http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1666827 |
The problem is that it not only takes a lot to get a bad rep in college football, it takes a whole lot more to get RID of a bad rep. FSU and Miami will continue to have bad reps for a while, not necessarilly their present coaches/players faults (although in FSU it's both).

Its the players. They already think they're the baddest mofos on earth and they're above the law.
We've had incidents like that in texas and it talks of the discipline by the head coach. you dont see anything like this happening under bob stoops. no discipline = this kinda shit. |
There is more than meets the eye going on with Tressel.
He is all about "personal responsibility". He is always thinking long term. It's all about the kids and the program. You would want your kid to play for this guy. He doesn't just talk the talk. He truly believes what he says. It's impossible for a OSU to become a "bad" school under his leadership. So why all the activity? Maybe he gives these guys the rope to hang themselves? We will see. Thanks for listening. |
Wwcd101 is right. Good men as leaders breed goodness from followers. Jim Tressel is so squeaky clean its almost annoying.
From what I understand, the players feel they were mediating a dispute and not the original offenders. The situation got out of hand, and they crossed the line to a point where charges can be brought. I will never blame a coach for individual player discretions - coaches are not babysitters. I will blame a coach for not showing moral leadership themselves (Nolan Richardson III), or when coaches have problems within the program itself (Jerry Tarkanian). EDIT: And disorderly conduct? I'd be willing to bet that more of us than not have been faced with disorderly conduct. You apologize to a judge, then go clean up the freeway for three hours. This would be a non-story if it happened elsewhere. |
I was reading the transcripts to the Tuesday press report by Tressel. I was interested to hear what he had to say about the fights. He said that there were 4 students that were out too late and that they told him that they were trying to stop a fight. who knows, but it sounds like that lawyer is a prick. Most of em are and he is trying to make things sounds worse then they are. But seriously, how do you watch 50-60 kids at all times to make sure they don't get in any trouble.
Also the biggest reason people don't like Miami is bacause they are jack asses on the field, and off. |

UM-Hurricanes, Lakers, Cowboys, Yankees win. Nobody gave a shit about those teams when they were mired in losing seasons. |
look.... putting success aside, (even though miami has earned that success) I think when ANYTHING happens in miami, it is magnified 10 times... Its crazy, When I listen to the AM radio (i heard hank goldberg and beano cooke talking about this the other day) they were talking about how because of the problems and stereotype miami had back in the day when there were a showboating, bad attitude program, it causes ANY little occurance NOW to be like, "oh well, thats miami for you....
In reality, miami has DRAMATICALLY cleaned up there program, you dont see those problems anymore.... The REAL problem is that whenever something happens (doesnt matter how miniscule it is) the general public responds with "oh, well miami's program is bad and classless and blah blah blah.... Ive come to realize that, its gonna take longer than a decade to get rid of the reputation that miami HAD.... Every team talks trash, every team has some type of attitude, and every team fights.... Whats more important is the off the field problems that you dont see coming out of miami as you did in the past..... Maybe people should start giving some credit, OR realizing that Miami's Program is not as Classless as the USED to be.... Its a different team, different players... Classier players (aside from Winslow's mouth of course)... Its a better program! |
I don't think anyone doubts you, Sam. But you just made my earlier point.
Don't worry about it too much. If Miami keeps as they are going and stays (mostly) straight and clean, they will lose that rep over time. |
yep.... time will tell...
