Anyone else follow Sumo?
I've been watching/following sumo for over ten years.
Today, my favorite rikishi Musashimaru announced his retirement. It wasn't unexpected but I really feel like his disappearance, along with that of many others recently (Akinoshima, Takanohana, Terao, etc.) has made me feel the passage of time. I feel old. Still, I like to watch some of the new stars -- Asashoryu, Chiyotaikai, Takamisakari, and others. I don't know who my current favorite is now -- I favored Musashimaru since his Makuuchi debut. If you've read this far there's a good chance that you like sumo too. Who are your favorites? Who do you think will be the next Yokozuna? Will we ever see a resurgence of Miyabiyama or Dejima? I'm curious to see if anyone responds to this thread... |
I really enjoyed watching it on TV when I was in Japan, even though I only understood a word here and there of the commentary. One of these days I'll get back to Japan and maybe go see it live.

I watch is whenever I see that it is on tv, but that is few and far between. Any suggestions on how I could see it more often?

On EuroSport (don't know if you know that one) there is someone who really knows his stuff. I thoroughly enjoy his commentary
