Attention Golfers: good gifts?

My officemate is an avid golfer, although relatively new to the sport. I don't know what he has and doesn't have, but I'd like to get him something golf-related for Christmas. It could be a gift certificate to somewhere - I just have absolutely zero knowledge of golf. If anybody could suggest good golf stores (either online or brick and mortar - I'm in NYC), I would really appreciate it.

Any really cool golf gift suggestions outside of gift certificates would be appreciated too. Thank you!

If he is a newer player, lots of golfballs are a must. For a new player, quality is not as big an issue, quantity is. Another choice would be a gift certificate to a driving range. It is always good to practice when you are starting out.

You could find out any other of his interests like a sports team and buy him a Golf Towel or a set of Golf head covers with that logo on them etc...

Get him a box of some expensive golfballs, i always love it when i get brand new balls because they are pretty expensive!! I'd suggest some Nike's, those are my personal favorite ball but they are pretty expensive man.

both of the above posts are right on.. golf balls are a must.. nike balls do the trick... and if he is a new golfer get him TopFlite XL2000's... they fly farther on impact.. or if he doesnt mind buy him some Lady Precepts... it can accomplish two things... 1). a good laugh and 2). Lady golf balls fly farther than mens golf balls(cuz of the softer core)

A gift cirtificate for a golf lesson if he is new or if a seasoned golfer a refresher lesson.

If he does not need any new clubs, then I suggest golf balls always a need unless finding some while playing. A weighted warm up for his clubs always a good choice not to many people by them for them selves. Head covers, glove. wind jacket or rain gear depending on what you want to spend and how close a friend he is. There are many places on the net that are good, just compare prices.

Thanks for the suggestions. He's a beginner so I think I'm going to go with some golf balls and some tees, and maybe some ball markers. I appreciate the help!

Isn't that the truth!

A few weeks ago I had a mid-iron shot over a water hazard up onto the green. My buddy said, "You should use an old ball for this shot."

I said, "I've never owned a ball long enough for it to get old!"
