Can Oklahoma lose this year?

Putting away probably their toughest competition of the year in Oklahoma State 52-9 most likely sealed the deal that they are going to the nation championship this year. But do you think any team this year has enough talent to beat this INCREDIBLE team of Oklahoma?

My votes would be USC or Michigan. USC has a great balanced passing attack and a great defensive unit. They MIGHT be able to beat Okla if they make some turnovers and things go their way in the game. Michigan started off pretty bad with tough losses to Oregon and Iowa, but the way they have been playing recently makes me think that they won't lose another game this year!

bond007 11-02-2003 12:39 PM

the Sooners do have some potentially tough games...

at Texas Tech -- on paper, shouldn't be a tough game. but strange things tend to happen in Lubbock.

Big XII title game vs. Kansas State or Missouri in Kansas City. OU had trouble in the cold weather last week at Colorado. KC in December will definitely be cold (and icy/snowy?).

Sugar Bowl vs. (probably) USC or Florida State. the 'Noles have great talent, but the Trojans are definitely a better team. OU-USC would be a great matchup!

Rudel73 11-02-2003 01:17 PM

The Big XII Championship will probaably be against either Nebraska or KState, they play eachother in a couple weeks the winner of that game will most likely be goin to the championship game. Even still i don't think either of these teams have what it takes to beat these Sooners! Scary

Kurant 11-02-2003 02:10 PM

OSU just destroyed they're toughest opponent of the year. Maybe not in ranking, or on paper, but mentally that was the toughest game for them all year.

They are the real deal. They won't lose.

The_Dude 11-02-2003 02:11 PM

I think KSU has the best chance of beating OU.

Tech wont do shit against OU. OU killed tech 65-15 or so last year. All u gotta do is stop the pass against tech and u WILL win. tech has no running game and the worst defense in the nation.

yesterday, bj symons, the tech qb, threw for 1 td, 5 ints, 1 fumble lost against colorado. it'll be much worse against OU.

Jaiddin 11-02-2003 06:00 PM

Oklahoma lose? Damn hard to see it happening. Don't see them losing the next 3 games, and the north division is weak this year. Give Stoops more than 1 week to prepare for a team, and he just doesn't lose. USC has probably the best chance to beat OU in the Sugar Bowl, but with the way OU's defence is playing atm, I don't think anybody in college football can beat them. Hell I'm not sure if a couple of the pro teams could beat them at this point.

Artermis 11-02-2003 07:28 PM

I do not see it happening.

I only see two teams with a chance to beat OU but only one with a realistic chance since Michigan has almost no chance to get to the sugar bowl. USC and Michigan. They both have balanced O and enough speed on D to win. Saying that I do not seen OU losing this year. They are more dominant than UM was last year. But you never know what will happen in the championship game...remember OSU beat a supposedly unbeatable UM team last year.

I would just like to see OU play Ohio st. Just as long as OSU gets a 14 pt lead I would like to see OSU's defense against OU's offense. I know OSU could'nt score more then a few feildgoals probably. But it would be fun to watch. OSU has the greatest defense in the country.

Artermis 11-02-2003 08:37 PM

See how many points Michigan puts up against them.

OU is the class of the country. They still have Nebraska but it will take pure emotion for nu to do anything with ou.

gov135 11-03-2003 10:19 AM

Noone in the whole Big12 provided any competition for the Sooners this year- why should there be any difference.

Kansas State is the best shot at beating them, and they are so unbelievably bad they fell out of the rankings at one point. This from a team that was ranked in the top five and almost lost immeadiately- to Cal.

Oklahoma cruises to the Big12 championship game and cruises through the game. The Big12 is normally one of the best conferences in the nation for football, this year has bee a huge disappointment, though. Oklahoma will not get derailed.

rogue49 11-03-2003 10:59 AM

No way
They are the shit this year.
I haven't seen this much steamrollin' in a while.

Then again, I might be biased,
considering I've been an OU fan all my life. :)

bond007 11-03-2003 02:46 PM

I think Michigan would give OU one hell of a good game! that being said, the Wolverines did manage to lose to Oregon...

burntmonkey 11-05-2003 05:18 PM

Maybe they need more parity in their conference like the SEC has.

skysooner 11-07-2003 08:08 AM

No chance of OU losing before the National Title game. A&M and Baylor are average to bad teams and they are on our home field. Texas Tech is one-dimensional, and we don't lose to one-dimensional teams. Stoops is 3-0 vs. Leach.

Big 12 Championship shouldn't be difficult. K-State has an okay offense but an average defense. Nebraska can't throw, and we already killed Missouri earlier this year. Stoops has 2 weeks to prepare for the game, and he is something like 17-2 vs. ranked opponents.

National champ-4 weeks to prepare (in the bag). There is no team in the country with the balance on all sides of the ball. The downside is that OU hasn't played on astroturf much this year, and strange things can happen.

SSJwrestler 11-07-2003 08:48 AM

Oklahoma is pretty untocuhable

cementor 11-07-2003 07:15 PM

OSU has the best D in the country?.. think again my friend. They (OSU the Bucs not the pokes) have gotten by with a solid D and next to no O, but seriously OSU vs OU's D no contest!! Sooners in another rout, even with 2 of the 3 starting LB's out!!! As for a 14 point lead it wouldn't be nearly enough!! I'd like to see the match up too, but it wouldn't be close! I think Michigan is the class of the Big 10 and they'll prove it in a couple of weeks

bond007 11-07-2003 07:38 PM

skysooner... I don't think the Big XII title game will be such a cakewalk. K-State is the likely opponent, which means they'll have the crowd in their favor. the weather will also be a factor. granted, the Sooners should still win... but it won't be as easy as you think.

maximusveritas 11-08-2003 11:50 AM

up 77-0 on A&M after 3.
Haven't seen a team be this dominant in a while.
If these guys get beat, i'll be amazed.

The_Dude 11-08-2003 12:16 PM

OU 77 | ATM 51

that 51 yards is the total yards of offense for aTm after 3 qtrs.

AL9045 11-08-2003 12:19 PM

Raped.

Just give Jason White the Heisman.

Don't forget, it's November as well, the mojo seems to flow through Lubbock real well this time of year.
OU just needs to play their game and they'll win, however, that's all Texas needed to do last year, don't count your chickens just yet Boomers.

skysooner 11-08-2003 02:26 PM

Texas Tech is the worst statistical defense in the country and OU just set a school record for the number of 50 point games in a season (with Baylor and Texas Tech remaining). Tech doesn't have a prayer.

WarWagon 11-08-2003 02:36 PM

Oklahoma didn't even need to show up today. They easily could have broken the 100pt barrier if they were really into it. Like skysooner said, Tech doesn't have a prayer.

I just love how a lot of people on this board and in general really look down at Ohio State too. I can't believe how many people I heard say that they didnt have a chance against Mich. St, yet they walked away with an easy win today. Purdue and Michigan better watch out and practice that passing game, because they sure aren't going to get anywhere by running the ball.

Artermis 11-08-2003 02:39 PM

I would not compare MSU's running game with Michigan's. Michigan has a much better O-line and also a better RB. Saying that...Michigan will win by throwing the ball. They have the best set of recievers in the country and the O-Line is very good at pass blocking.

I think OSU beats Purdue but loses to Michigan.

In line with the original post - Can OU lose next year? Look at all the Sophomores and Juniors on the roster - they should be stronger next year than they are now! They don't have to rebuild - just reload.

skysooner 11-08-2003 05:19 PM

Maybe, but there are a couple of really key people we lose. I think we will be very good, but I'm not sure if we will be at the same level as this year.

SAM821 11-08-2003 06:33 PM

Oklahoma wont lose... thats crazy the amount of points being put up.... damn... im impressed (as a cane fan) kudos to bob stoops.... thats a damn good team

RoadRage 11-08-2003 06:38 PM

Start the second-team next week against Baylor. No sense on risking injuries just for stat-padding.

I'm trying to figure out: when they scored that TD to go up 76-0, why didn't they go for 2?

They also don't have anything to lose, and they have everything to gain. If you start countin the chickens before they hatch, then you're gonna come up short. There are no guaranteed victories in football, that's why you play the games.

skysooner 11-09-2003 10:02 AM

Actually I would say that OU has more to gain than Tech. OU would be out of the national championship if they lost that late in the season. Tech is completely ONE dimensional. We have never lost to Leach. This is his worst defense, and Stoops' best offense. We beat Tech by a minimum of 28 pts in Lubbock and more likely 42 at home.

archer2371 11-09-2003 10:25 AM

Oh believe me, I think that the Sooners will win this game, but still, stranger things have happened.

cementor 11-09-2003 04:34 PM

It would be mighty strange in deed. I think Tech will stay in the game thru the first quarter, but the secondary speed will start picking off BJ and the rout will be on take the over on the line and give the points. Tech can't stop anyone.

I have heard that Jason White would likely be given a medical redshirt year if he applies. I'm not sure why he would , but it is an interesting twist.

How bout this one. LSU loses in the SEC title game (possible). Ohio State gets KO'd at Michigan( probable in my opinion), and USC gats knocked off by UCLA (not likely). Who gets the Sugar opposite OU?...... TCU?

todd311 11-11-2003 06:03 AM

You guys know,,, OU plays Baylor first. Ha!!

Damnyankee 11-11-2003 07:09 AM

Here it is, Oklahoma will go down as one of the best teams in college football history...end of story! I'm a Michigan die hard fan but I know a great team when I see it. The only way they lose this year is some real bad breaks in the begining of the game that might mess up their game plan, similar to UM/Oregon. Anyway, good for them, when it came time for Ok to put up or shut up, they put up huge points and won big. My hats off sooners!!

Oh yea, please let LSU and USC lose in the next couple weeks so we can see Michigan vs. Oklahoma in the Sugar!!!

Go Blue Baby!!!

skysooner 11-11-2003 07:48 AM

I don't really care who we play, but if I had a choice, I would rather it be USC or Michigan. OSU wouldn't give us a game.
