The Rape of Notre Dame

I dont think this was a surprise at all. They've just been gettin extremely lucky against moderate teams and have had their asses raped against good teams.

Remember USC last year? And their bowl game?

And now, it's Michigan's turn to do the honors. ND has a tough schedule ahed of them and I'm excepcting more ass-rapes like the one on Saturday.

They were WAY overrated as #15 in the nation. Now, they are where they should belong. Unranked.

maximusveritas 09-14-2003 05:28 PM

Notre Dame has always been over-rated because of its popularity across the nation. This popularity translates into profitability for the college football industry, hence major TV contracts and undeserved bowl bids.

steelerz 09-14-2003 05:33 PM

Have to agree.

agentsmith 09-14-2003 05:43 PM

heh, for a second there I thought this was a kobe bryant thread

sixate 09-14-2003 06:20 PM

Notr Dame looks very average to me. They shouldn't even be in the top 25, but my Wolverines look strong as hell!!! Go Blue! :D

Sion 09-14-2003 10:58 PM

I hate Notre Dame. Always have, always will.

just thought I'd throw that out there.

gov135 09-15-2003 04:32 AM

Notre Dame simply doesn't have the athletes to run the offense that was installed there. They need at least another year. Their quarterback scares noone.

Yeah, they were overrated. Funy how college football works though. Notre Dame beats Washington St. who then make Colorado look stupid.

perripken 09-15-2003 05:22 AM

M GO BLUE!

tj2001cobra 09-15-2003 06:23 AM

Hey, I agree with the Dude on something! :D

Notre Dame is always over-ranked. Wow, I didn't know they fell all the way out of the polls. Excellent.

Glory's Sun 09-15-2003 09:05 AM

They are always over-rated..they shouldn't be ranked at all. They always get a bowl bid because they are popular and they are independent ..that's bullshit..they should be forced to enter a conference.

Their QB is a good runner..but he doesn't fit in with a west-coast offense..which is what the Irish claim to have.. haven't seen it yet..but their QB would be better off playing for someone else...

ndulacd 09-15-2003 05:55 PM

Okay, I've got to stand up for my friends here. :-) First of all, yes they suck. They are awful right now. Their defense, the supposed strength of the team, is looking awful and the offense (which is not a West Coast Offense btw) is horrid. They are at least two to three years away from being a top 10 team.

That being said, I'd like to address a few points. First of all, the poster above who says they should be forced to join a conference obviously isn't looking at it clearly. If you hate ND, you should be glad they are independent as that makes it much harder for them to get into a BCS. They have a very difficult schedule most years and so its very tough for them to run the table or even keep it to no more than two losses, which is what is needed for them to get into the BCS. Look at FSU last year. They had 4 losses, but still won the ACC and were able to get to a BCS game.

Now, that being said, there is no need for ND to join a conference. All other schools join conferences for the money. Notre Dame doesn't need to do that. They are popular enough to bring in enough money on their own. If they weren't as popular as they are, NBC wouldn't have signed them to a television contract. Now, many people think that's unfair, but if any other team were offered this, they would have jumped on the chance. Don't hate Notre Dame just because they are popular. Maybe people should look at why they are so popular.

I can tell you that after working at the University of Notre Dame for a number of years, that things really are different here. I know its not the only school that makes its athletes go to class, and I don't mean basketweaving, but there really are only a handful that do that and can still compete at the highest level in all sports.

I am going to stop there, but am willing to address any points that anyone wants to bring up. It is impossible for me to fully express what is great about Notre Dame. Unfortunately I am not that eloquent a writer.

You really think that NBC is going to renew it once the contract is over?

ndulacd 09-15-2003 06:16 PM

Actually, yes, I do. They are still bringing in high ratings and that's all they care about. Some people tune in to watch them win and others tune in to watch them lose. NBC doesn't care why they tune in, just the fact that they are is all they care about.

ledhead 09-15-2003 08:56 PM

Its Michigans year, Navarre and Perry are gonna take em to the Fiesta, or maybe the Rose bowl so I can go see them.:D

ndulacd 09-16-2003 08:37 AM

Honestly, good luck. You've got a very good team, and more importantly you've got a great offensive line. That is what will allow you to go all the way. I try to root for UM and USC when they aren't playing Notre Dame. I think its good if our rivals do well. Besides, if you win the NC, maybe it will make that ass whipping you gave us last weekend look better! ;-)

greydenn 09-16-2003 01:26 PM

OVERRATED!!!

Ha ha ha. God do I hate Notre Dame

Over the years they have beaten my Michigan State Spartans every lucky way possible. (See last year) They will probably win this year, but boy am I glad that Michigan showed the frauds that they are.

ndulacd 09-17-2003 07:43 AM

How did Michigan show them to fauds? Certainly they showed that Notre Dame isn't anywhere close to where Michigan is and doesn't belong in the top 20 just yet, but how is Notre Dame a fraud? And I'm sick of people using the term Lucky to describe Notre Dame. Luck is just preperation meeting opportunity.

I guess I just don't understand why so many people have such a strong hatred towards Notre Dame. Most of the reasons I've heard people mention in the past aren't even true. It seems that people either are fed false information and believe it or they just make stuff up as reasons to hate Notre Dame. I'm not saying that Notre Dame is perfect. Far from it. There are arogant fans (as there are at all schools) and there can be a holier than thou attitude at times which needs to go. I can understand why some people wouldn't root for the, but why such a strong and deep hatred? That just doesn't make sense to me.

The_Dude 09-17-2003 10:26 AM

it is CLEARLY evident that notre dame didnt belong anywhere near the vicinity of the top 25.

but they were, where they should'nt have been.

remember the bowl they got last year? they didnt deserve one half it's magnitude (and i heard that they were trying to get one of the bcs bowls....i'm like WTF).

they got ass torn up by their bowl team too.

fearofmear 09-17-2003 12:43 PM

My whole family is from Michigan and I am an avid Notre Dame hater so it was quite nice to see Notre Dame lose so horribly. Now if OSU would just lose.

You're right, they didn't belong there, but don't blame Notre Dame for that. Blame the media and the bowls. Notre Dame was winning quite a few games last year (should they apologize for that?) and the media knew that if they were in the Gator Bowl they would be a huge draw and make them lots of money. You can't blame ND for that. Its not their fault that tons of people like to watch their games, whether its to see them win or to see them lose.

Also, as far as the bowl game goes, lets not forget that their starting QB was looking very sharp but got hurt on their first drive. That left them with a walk-on QB for the rest of the game. As soon as he went out injured, the team lost all confidence and every Notre Dame fan in the world could have told you it was over. The offense had moved the ball all the way down the field on that first drive before he got hurt. After that they were lucky to get a first down. That caused the defense to be on the field the entire game and were exhausted. I'm not trying to make excuses here as I think Notre Dame would have still lost the game, but I don't think it would have been that bad. I think it would have been more competitive than that and a much better game.
