I saw the play with Westbrook taking a knee on the 1 and everyone was talking about how smart and unselfish it was. I viewed it as pretty gutless football. I guess it's all about winning, but to run out the last minutes of the game by taking a knee three times made for a boring end to the game.

Clock management. Everyone does it to some degree, this was just more than the standard. A couple of weeks ago, the announcers were all over the Giants for scoring too quickly at the end of the game and potentially allowing the opponents (I don't remember who) to drive down the field and score.

The point is to win. Anything you can do within the rules, is fair-game, if you don't play to win, why are you playing?
In the old school NBA, there used to be no shot clocks. Teams would just dribble the ball for long minutes on end to nurse a lead, scores would be in the twenties. Sure, this made for boring games, but it was the best strategy. They eventually changed the rules, but strategy remains the same, you play to win the game. Period. |

I hate the "take a time out right as they snap for a field goal" play too, even though that's designed to win the game. Winning is important, but let's not forget at its heart, professional sports is entertainment. I don't find that entertaining.
