People accusing u of "band wagon"

Since the early years of my life i have liked The Green Bay Pakers and The Detroit Red Wings. Not that it matters but they are both pretty good teams. It is the most friggin anoying thing when a guy at a bar or someone at school accuses me of being on the "bandwagon". I LOVE THESE TEAMS! IT'S NOT FUCKING BAND WAGON! do people do this to u? if so. Tell me about it!

MikeyChalupa 09-01-2003 08:42 AM

Do what I did... tattoo yourself with their logo. You'll never be termed a bandwagon jumper again, and furthermore, you can challenge others to show they are as big a fan of their team as you are of yours.

Never had that problem, Im a Saints fan...

Plan9Senior 09-01-2003 11:09 AM

I cannot stand bandwagoners. I live in Orange County, and you have no clue how many people turned into Angel and Laker fans only when the World Series and Finals came around. I have had season tickets to both of them for over 10 years now so I can be a little biased on fans like that :)

archer2371 09-01-2003 11:11 AM

Start quizzing people on the old time greats of your team, if they're true fans, then they'll know who you're talking about.

fooseballwiz 09-01-2003 11:25 AM

plan 9! i just watched the movie orange county beofre coming on here! freaky

Ya I get that..I am a fan of Jeff Gordon, And when he was winning alot of races..People would say i only like him cause he wins alot.

When I first started watching Nascar, I loved his car...So I would always cheer for that car...I didn't even know who he was at first, And that's how I started cheering for him.

He is still my Fav in Nascar too, And he doesn't win like he use to.

rogue49 09-01-2003 01:29 PM

Yes, all the time

My favorites are...
New York Yankees
Oakland Raiders
LA Lakers.

I've ALWAYS liked them ever since I was a little kid.
I grew up in Connecticut during the 70's & 80's
In CT, you like the Sox or the Yanks...I picked the Yanks (I wanted one that had won a World Series or two. ;))
I've always loved the whole attitude of the Raiders (crush 'em...I hated it when they were in LA)
And with the Lakers...(well...Kareem was on there...he was cool)

And those who I've became a fan of...have been for years.
sorry for that MY teams are winning.
(then again...I'm not so sorry...quit ya bitchin';))

I think the only teams I ever started rooting for beyond this,
were the SD Chargers (I lived there 12 years, and they made it to the playoffs & the Bowl)
and the Chicago Bulls (Jordan was just THAT damn good and his teammates were excellent too)

Ugh, I am with you as a Raider fan and it is hard being a fan to a team with such a jackass owner who MOVED THEM FROM LA ARRGH!

JoeyB 09-01-2003 05:22 PM

YES!

Because I am a fan of the NY Yankees, some people assume I watched my first game in 1996. I wish that I started liking them as soon as they started winning.

Instead....

I had to watch a pitching staff with Dennis Rasmussen, Ed Whitson, and both Neikro brothers (combined age: 349)

I had to watch an infield of Paul Zuvello, Eric Soderholm and Andre Robertson.

I had to deal with managers such as Clyde King and Dallas Green.

If I'm a bandwagon jumper, why didn't I jump off when Steve Kemp was in right field?

coke babies 09-01-2003 06:52 PM

My favorite teams always suck, so I never get accused of being a bandwagon jumper.

That's certainly one way to avoid it!

I guess Bengals fans rarely have to answer those concerns.

:D

Joey B on point again. I know the feeling, man. Being a Yankee fan, you're automatically considered a frontrunner. I grew up idolizing Donnie Baseball and he never won a damn thing. But what a great postseason he had in 1995. It was so fitting. You just knew if he had the chance to peform on a big stage, he'd do it. For me, that catapulted him into legendary Yankee status. Too bad they lost the series. When the Yankees won it in 1996, I was 17. I cried. It was special for me, because my grandfather was the biggest Yankee fan I knew and I got to celebrate with him the next morning. He died two years later just three days before the start of the 1998 season, so he missed the next three titles and that great run they had. Each year they won it from 1998-2000 was bittersweet for me because he wasn't there to share it. That's my story. So I get offended when people assume you are a bandwagon fan. I like all New York teams. Just grew up that way. The Knicks. The Giants. The Rangers. The Yankees. Two of them stink, so I can hardly be a frontrunner.

djtestudo 09-01-2003 08:25 PM

All I can say is that if you are 1) from the New York metro area, 2) liked the Yankees before 1996, or 3) are young enough that you only began paying attention after 1996, you are not a bandwagon guy in my book. All other Yankees fans (and Laker fans for that matter who don't fit the criteria for LA) need to be shot immediatly if not sooner.

Kurant 09-01-2003 10:06 PM

I'm a Cubs/Vikings fan, I don't have the bandwagon problem. Haha.

Cowman 09-02-2003 05:00 PM

My favorite teams are.. the Florida Panthers/New York Rangers for NHL, Indiana Pacers for Basketball, uhhhhh not sure what else...either way, I havn't had any of my teams win a title in a long while, so I dont have a problem with anyone calling me a bandwagon'er =D

slant eyes 09-02-2003 07:04 PM

i used to be a big time laker fan. that is until they turned chicago bulls. then i hated them. i especially hate how everyone and their mom is branding lakers only after they won the championships when the great western forum used to never sell out. now i watch basketball for the sport. i'm rooting for sacramento and dallas mavs. was glad tho when the spurs took it.

football: i like the dolphins, rams, packers, and the niners. while i sincerely wanted the raiders to win last season, i dreaded hearing all those band wagon jumpers, those wearing laker jerseys 3 months ago, yelling 'RAIDERS!'. so i'm glad they got their asses handed to them. although, as a long time niners fan, i wanted jerry rice to take home another.

Hrothgar 09-03-2003 12:41 AM

I guess you can be accused of being a bandwagon jumper if you like multiple teams from diverse cities. Jesus I could never root for a team in the same division as my favorite team thats blasphemy.

dragon2fire 09-05-2003 03:05 PM

pacer fan

clots fan

cubs fan

i dont have this problem

well the pacers did have the finals apperace a few years back

but if your form indiana and a pacers fan no one calls you a ban wangon fan

Cowman 09-05-2003 07:17 PM

I lived in Indiana when I first became a basketball/NBA fan, so it was just natural to become a huge pacers fan :D

Love indiana for the basketball history...I lived in Bloomington, and I used to get my haircut at this little store run by a couple old guys, and the whole place was filled with stuff from the IU basketball teams going back like 50 years...autographed basketballs, pictures, jerseys...it was amazing.

perripken 09-08-2003 05:07 AM

Sabres
Bills
Orioles
Lakers- I became a fan when the Buffalo Braves moved and Bob McAdoo became a Laker.
I got so much bandwagon shit about the Bills when they went to the Super Bowl 4 times and lost. I've been a Bills fan since the early 60's when my dad took me to the old rockpile and put a Kemp jersey on me. I've been through some pretty rough seasons, but some pretty good one's too!

Reddevil63 09-08-2003 07:05 AM

No jumping ships here I am a Houston guy... Astros, Rockets, Texans, ok ok so I only like the Comets when they won 4 straight championships but the WNBA isnt that entertaining anyways.

SAM821 09-10-2003 02:50 PM

Florida Marlins...

Ive been accused of being on the Florida Marlins Bandwagon lately.... truth is I've been following this team since the traded everyone away in 97.... Its been tough to watch them at times, but its great to see them going for the wild card

You know its for real when management starts shelling out money for players during the season.... Its ABOUT TIME!

GO MARLINS!!!

tj2001cobra 09-10-2003 05:36 PM

Atlanta Braves. I started watching them back in the early 80's when I was 7-8 years old. The only reason I watched them was because they were on the TV all of the damn time. Man, they had years that they were atrocious, but I liked to watch them and I learned the players. Then when the 90's rolled around, everyone asked why I liked them and said I was jumping on with a good team. Oh well. It doesn't bother me too much. Most people are sick of them because they win so much anyways.

numberfive 09-11-2003 08:25 PM

I can't be a bandwagon-er. I can't bring myself to like another team as much as the Mariners, 49ers and Bulls. Mainly because my cousin liked them a lot and I hung out with him most of the time so they grew on me.

denton 09-12-2003 01:42 AM

When I was 19 the Reds won it all (1990) and someone accused me of b'wagonning.
I brought in a picture of me at my 10th birthday party wearing a Reds jersey and hat, that ended it.

Averett 09-12-2003 06:27 AM

I started watching the Braves in 1990. They were hoooooorible! I think they had about 10 people in the stands. Then something magical happened in 91.

Oh, but I remember the horribleness that was the 90 Braves

*shudder*

Sion 09-13-2003 05:26 PM

Steeler fan since 1972
Pirate fan since 1975
Laker fan since 1979
Penguins fan since mid 80s

not emotionally attached to any other sports franchise

anyone who accuses me of bandwagon jumping doesnt know his ass from a hole in the ground.

Jadey 09-15-2003 07:20 PM

As a St Louis Cardinal fan I am seeing all of the bandwagon Cubs fans come out of the woodwork. A couple of weeks ago when the Cubs put a hurt on the Cards in a 5 game series I got to work on Friday and people I don't think even know what a freaking baseball is were giving me shit. Now, I realize I take sports a little too seriously sometimes, but I'm about ready to jack some one!!!!! I got some old woman that works for me that gives me shit every day now, and if she doesn't stop I'm gonna fire her ass!

this is coming form a life long cubs fan

yankeefatboy 09-19-2003 11:15 PM

I'm from Staten Island, NY and have always been a Yankee, Knick, Giant, Ranger, and even Cosmo fan. You'd be amazed with the number of times I was acused of jumping on the bandwagon(ok maybe not the Rangers) when the team won.
