Just another normal August in Boston
Well, I ( a huge sox fan) just finished watching the Red Sox drop another game, and can't help but think that it's turning out to be nothing but the usual second half of the season choke for the sox. They'll drop the regional playoff spot to the Yanks, (7.5 GB now) and they'll lose the wildcard to the A's. What's everyone elses take on the situation? Any why couldn't I have been a fan of a better team?

At least you knew it was coming. Being a Sox fan as well, I was excited when they made some decent pitching acquisitions (Kim and Williamson). But as we've seen these last two days, these two pitchers haven't amounted to anything.
One of my wife's friends is friends with Theo Epstein (GM). I may need to relay a few messages to him! They need to get a solid number two for next year, or us fans will be seeing the same thing this time next year. |
My Indians are still hoping to deal Brian Anderson through the waiver wire. The Red Sox should give him a go. Tonite, he gave up only three runs, but none were earned due to several errors.
I really thought this was Boston's year. Mueller, Miller, the catcher, these guys are having great years. I just don't get it. But it IS difficult to be surprised. |
well, as a Mets fan living outside of Boston I got double the thrill watching the Sox choke this season away as usual and re-living them choke away the '86 series, which was shown this week on MSG network--helps me to get through the fact that my team sucks this year...Let's Go Mets 2004!!!
|
I think I get it, while the offence is good, it's sporadic. Tonight we scored at least 12 runs, (had to leave, didn't see the end) whereas the last few series they were effectively shut down. And then there's the pitching. Still have a bullpen that stinks, and three starters are also sporadic in their performances. I remember wakefield finished the year with something like a 2.34 era, and this year its nowhere close to that. Again, I can't say I'm surprised. Screw it, go Mariners.

We discussed this throughout the season. Boston fans insisted that the Sox were better than the Yanks....New York fans insisted that Yankees were better than the Red Sox.
The season certainly isn't over yet....but I think one side can speak with a little more confidence right now. |
well, even as a Mets fan and Yankee hater it is easy to see which is the better team...although they both Suck, the Yankees don't choke every August!

Q: How are the Boston Red Sox like lawn furniture?
A: Every year you put them away after Labor Day. http://www.boomspeed.com/mikeychalupa/redsox.JPG -Mikey |
Why can't the Red Sox finish ahead of the Yankees just once. I hate seeing the Yankees in the post season.
|
The Sox do finish ahead of the Yankees sometimes. They've finished ahead of the Yankees 33 times, in fact. That's almost once every three seasons! It's just that we weren't born yet for most of them.
Most recent was 1995, when they they won the ALE but were swept in the first round by the Indians. They finished ahead of the Yankees each year from 1988 to 1991, winning the ALE twice but getting swept in the ALCS by the A's twice. You don't want me to keep going, do you? Because next stop is 1986... Interestingly enough, the AL East has finished in the same order every year since 1998. NY, BOS, TOR, BAL, TB. They WILL finish again in this order for the sixth year in a row. -Mikey |
Sox are like a yo-yo this year. Just when you count them out, they're back in. It sucks.
Can someone explain to me why they have stuck with hung-one kim for so long as the closer now? If you can't close out the games against the good teams, you dont belong as the closer. Bring in Williamson or something like that. I've never seen a sox team anything like this one with Millar, Mueller, Nixon, Varitek and those guys picking things up real good. If only we can get rid of our whining 5 inning ace and get a real ace, we'll be all set! Anyhow, the Pats are on now, so at least we have something to watch in september. |
