Did/Do you play sports?
Do any of you guys play sports? If you do, how good are/were you?
Me, I've played baseball all my life. I was a 1st-Team all league player my senior year in high school and right now I'm playing JC ball. I could've done better than that, but my senior year I got injured and told nobody. I kept playing and my stats plummeted for the last 7 games or so. At one point, I was hitting in the .440's and was getting scouted by some Division 1 colleges, but I dropped all the way down to .344 after the injury. I regret not telling anyone, but at the time, I was the best player on the team and didn't want to leave the team for fear of hurting it. :( |
8 years youth soccer - was always on defense, scored my only goal on my very last game
2 years little league - sucked like all hell, wish I would have swung the bat more I currently play basketball when I can at the community center here in town. I have the typical white guy game - Steve Kerr, Eric Piatkowsky, John Paxson... yeah you know the type |
I played lacrosse for 3 years in a club at my highschool.. we worked hard and finally got a team for our senior year.. but about a month before the season I was in an accident and broke my left femer.. so there was no playing for me this year=/ Goin to Drexel soon, hope to play in a club/team there. As far as how good I am, I think I was one of the better players on the team/in the club and I really wish I coulda played on the team.. but shit happens =)
|
I wrestled and cycled road bikes in high school. I tried some team sports like football when I was younger still. My team always sucked though, and it was a bad scene. I liked how wresting and cycling are individual sports, but also have a team aspect. Wrestling gave me much of the discipline I have today, but is also responsible for the complete burnout I went through in college. I wanted nothing to do with sports or anything healthy for that matter. In hindsite, I would still do it, but I'd try not to let take over so much of my life.
|
I played soccer 3rd grade through senior year in hs. Never was great but started most of the time. I played intermural soccer last year but we never really got to play because of rain. A friend of mine suggested we try out for club soccer this year but I've been lazy and haven't touched a ball in forever.. who knows I may give it a try!
|
Football and Lacrosse in both High School and D3 College.
Thanks for listening. |
I played two years of football. I decided not to play at the varsity level because the coach was a dick. Switched over to track for a season, but that was just to get out of football... I was never really that athletic, but it doesn't change the fact that I have one recorded solo tackle in the Buena High School record books...
|
Buena.. is this a city/town in south jersey?.. I live in vineland and we border a buena. =)
|
Basketball in high school. Now play softball (if you consider that a sport) and flag football.
|
In highschool my number 1 sport was football. Was selected first team allstar for defensive tackle but the big deal for me was making the Wall of Fame at my school. Plenty of pros up there.
I also did Track and Field my senior year. Made district championships for shotput and Provincial championships for hammer throw. If I could go back I woulda played rugby instead. After highschool I turned down offers to a few schools and stayed close to home for school. Played a few years of CJFL ball and then packed it in. Now I'm finishing up my university degree in another province and am contemplating playing ball for UofA while I still have the chance. I'm down about 50lbs since my playing days so I think I'd have to move over to d-end. Or maybe I'll just finish my degree on time. :) SLM3 |
I've played fastball all my life. My mens team is in the finals right now. We lost our first game two nights ago (4-3), and got rained out last night. We will be playing again tonight. It's a best of five series. Played rugby in highschool, and currently play volleyball in the winter time at the community centre.
|
I played soccer for 12 years until my body couldn't take it any more. I was goalie and my knees weren't too subtle about telling me they had had enough (the left one just gave out at practice one day.)
|
I ran track 4 yrs. in High School. After high school the only sport I have played is Softball.
|
I played soccer and basketball form 5 until I was 14. I wanted to play football junior yearafter I got fat (I was 6'6" and weighed about 260 lbs then) but my parents said no to that. Now, I play water polo (just joined an intramural team for that) and basketabll primarily. I can dunk the ball which is nice.
|
I play baseball. Im a pitcher at California Lutheran University out in Thousand Oaks. Im prolly going to be the #1 starter this year. Right now I top out at 89mph....but hopefully by the season i'll be in the low 90s
My brother actaully got drafted this year in the 2nd round (59th overall) to the Houston Astros. His name is Jason Hirsh. He was their first pick since they didnt get a first round pick. I'll be right there with him in 2 more years hopefully. They always say that the younger brother does better. |
I played basketball and baseball up to my Junior year. I was a much better baseballer, but love basketball more. Started playing golf at age 12, wanted to go pro, but met a girl, and my game went down hill. I still play, but not as often, you know, real job, kids, wife. I played several years of softball, and I really regret not playing now. With the golf, I coach my son's little league team.
|
I play tennis every now and then. Used to play every week, but moved away from where my mixed doubles group played, and don't get to play with them very often. I do race sailboats every week though, which has to be the best thing in the world. It's hard to match the joy of sailing and the thrill of racing. It's hard to describe if you've never done it, but once its in your blood you just start itching to go and do it as often as possible...

base ball and god i was bad
|
Played Varsity basketball and baseball freshman - senior years of High school...
Playing intermural basketball in college.. |
I played Cricket (for anyone who knows what that is) and Basketball all throughout high school. For a while there I had a go at Rugby, Tennis and Soccer but we kept losing and I wasn't that good. Since leaving school I've kept playing basketball and got involved in some Volleyball through work. Now I feel (to quote Danny Glover and Mel Gibson) as if I'm getting too old for this shit!!!
Oh and if you want to go waaaaaaay back. I used to be into competitive swimming from the ages of 7-12 (competitve :D ) but those 1 mile warmups just got a bit too much. |
I played hockey(goalie) for six years, then football(center, nosegaurd) for two and one year of rugby(left prop) in highschool.
I still play hockey whenever anybody need a goalie. |
Played soccer from the time I was 6 til sophomore year in college (D3). Now I race mt. bikes/road bikes/multisport (tri & duathlons)/and adventure races. Not bad at some, pretty successful at the duos (all top 10 finishes, won a few age groups) I have to say I like relying on myself over the team. I always know if I gave it all.
|
Played Soccer, Hockey and Baseball, Water Polo and Swam competitively as a youngster before high school. In High school I played rugby for a year and then badminton.
In University I played Volleyball and Floor Hockey in Intramurals. After University I have played hockey, soccer intermittantly and have played Ultimate for the past 5 or so years. I can play all the sports decently but never worried about being the best. As long as I and the team can play competitively and we are having fun I enjoy the game. |
Started messing around with tennis in junior high, but never played on the schol team. Played for like 2 weeks in high school, but I quit. I just wanted the girls to check me out. It didn't happen. :(
I picked up volleyball my senior year in high school and have fallen in love with the sport ever since. I played mainly intramural since the colleges and unviversities in my state do not have NCAA men's volleyball teams. Another challenge is that I'm only 5'5". So eventhough I can hold my own, people often pass me by. Throughout college and even afterwards, I've had the chance to share and coach people in this great sport. I have met lots of really cool people. Man, if I was another 10 inches taller! I would have tried for college or pro. Don't know if I would be great, but at least at 6'3" I'd have a chance. Oh well, gotta use what I have. I think some of my proudest moments have been playing in sand and grass tournaments. We've gotten to the semifinals but have only won 1 tournament though. Hey, it's still a good win in my book. The look of "shock" when people realize that a 5'5" player and a 5'10" partner whooped their asses is just PRICELESS!! Hehehe. :D |
Played baseball as a kid.
Adult Softball for a few years. Have been a bowler since the age of 5 (still going over 30 years later). |
Been playing basketball since I was quite young........ And I'm currently on my High School's Varsity bball team.
Only other sport I've really played is football... But just for fun. I also played soccer when I was a little kid.. but who didn't? |
High school basketball team went to state last year, lost third round :( two-a-day football practice starts tomorrow--not looking forward to it. the team is so small, they moved me from tight end to tackle because i'm athletic, and they're so desperate (i only weigh 190!?) being recruited as a senior rookie is just no fun.
|
i played varsity football all four years of my highschool career and winter track my senior year. Im also and avid Badminton player.
|
Four years of tennis in high school. Worked my way from 3 doubles the first year to 1 singles my last two. Hopefully I can play some intramurals up here at college.
I played football up through 8th grade, and even went to the Youth National Championships or something like that in Vegas. I realized that I don't have the body type for football, so I took up something else. :) |
I played floor hockey when I was younger. My brother told all the guys that I was good so I got picked to be on the best team and made a score to win the championship against my brother's team :) That was my most glorious sports memory
|
football and basketball until I realized I couldn't hack it in High School. I was skinny and slow. Intramurals in college, and in law school, which were alot more fun cause I was playing with a bunch of geeks like me, and it made me look pretty good!
|
I play hockey...goaltender. Unfortunately, with work and school I can't join any real leagues, so most of my game time is limited to pick up with friends, and as a drop in goalie for teams that need one.
|
I was a gun at tennis, i hardly play anymore...cause im a streetballa, i got the moves, but i aint goin anywhere
|
I used to play baseball and hockey when I was a kid. I didnt say I was that good though...
I also was an umpire in high school to make some extra cash. |
pretty much played all sports. I'm very athletic, but I tend to be very humble about it. The past year, I've mainly played bball, tennis, and snowboarding.
|
7 years of football thru middle school and high school...got a full ride (scholarship to a few schools (D2 and D3, and to the Coast Guard Acadamy which is also Division III, But i turned them all down...) Now i am studying Civil Engineering...
I regret not continuing to play football....who knows what couldve happend |
Growing up, I played mostly street sports. Nothing organized, just screwing around with my friends. We played football, baseball, hockey, basketball, softball (16") and even soccer (which wasn't very popular back then) Now, I play lacrosse with my kids. I really wish we had this sport growing up. It's a lot of fun. I wasn't that much of an athlete growing up. Played little league for two years. We won a total of 3 games in two years. After I left, the team went on to win the league championship. I took the hint.
Lacrosse is starting to take root here in the midwest. My boys play for their H.S. club team. Me? I'm the goalie in the yard. I did find out I need to wear shin guards though. Took a ball off the shin and a little while later, discovered a second knee cap about halfway down my shin. OUCH. It's still not healed all the way. |
Started playin lil league football when i was 6, and kept at it thru my senior year of High school.. blew out my right shoulder and left knee in the state semi's. Hard to play QB when yer thrown shoulder is hangin around yer waist.
Now i just lift weights and tackle the wife every now and again. |
I'm 26 and I played soccer for nearly 20 years. I played all the way up to college
|
Played soccer when I was six, took a few years of Aikido when I was ten. Played some basketball at 14, rode 4 years of aggressive inline up till i was 17. Started fitnessing in the meanwhile, but got kinda bored on that.
Oh yeah, since I started going on winter holidays with my folks at 13, I'm totally stoked on snowboarding since then. |
Played baseball and basketball when I was a kid and played lacrosse in college.
|
Play basketball right now. Although i could play at a higher level (i've been asked to, not thats it "that" high anyway :p ) i like playing with my good friends and for fun.
|
i was lucky my parents were cool about putting me into sports i wanted to do when i was younger. started soccer at age 5 and played till i was 15. lancer youth soccer league, played halfback or sweeper. i made it to the CSL all star league and got picked on to a great team. got to travel around the US and even one trip to England which was an awesome experience. won the league championship one year outta the two i played in the CSL. played one year of indoor soccer. team kinda sucked, where me and one other guy were the best players on the team. didn't go anywhere with that team.
played little league baseball for a couple years at age 9 and 10. did well in that. also was in gymnastics from the time i was 12 till 15. won state champion on the floor event when i was 14. i was always told i was good and could go far. just didn't have the interest to stick with it though once i hit highschool. did karate for a couple years at age 14 and 15. that was fun. once i hit highschool though it stopped. i was so lazy when i hit highschool. love basketball, and i think i'm good at it. pretty much hit the local parks to play. i play golf when i can, which is like 2 or 3 times a year i'll make it to the course. family and work keep me busy. but i'm a 15 handicap which aint too shabby for how much i get to golf. sometimes peopel i don't even know will approach me and tell me i have a beautiful swing..... too bad the flight of the ball doesn't match my swing though! lol. i'm pretty much a sports fanatic though. love watchin football, basketball, tennis, golf, baseball...... you name it, i'll watch it! |
Basketball - 4th-8th grade, and will be playing this year (I'm a Senior in high school)
Football - Quit 5th grade, but played my 6th grade year. I left it for awhile, then became a manager my Freshman year, and finally started playing again my Sophomore year and have stuck with it since. Baseball - 4th and 6th grade, alongside alot of tee-ball before I was in school. Tennis - This will be my first (and unfortunately last) year to play it, but I've played alot of tennis and raquetball growing up. Track - I plan to do Track this year, but I don't know if I can do tennis and track both. *shrugs* I'll have to look that up under TSSAA sometime. |
17 years of soccer (currently playing premier division). 11 years of cricket (was invited to the Australian Institute of Sport when I was 13). 7 years of indoor soccer. 4 years of indoor cricket. 1 season of volleyball. 4 years of long distance running. 3 years of wieghts training. 3 years of martial arts (currently an assistant instructor in Muay Thai). 2 years of hockey. 2 years of inline hockey. 3 years of gymnastics. 1 year of lawn bowls. 2 years of baseball. 1 year of basketball. 2 years of softball. Needless to say I was an exercise addict throughout my life. I would always get injured and never let myself heal. Now my body is an absolute mess so I cant do that much anymore.
|
Football, Baseball, Karate, Iaido, Fencing, Wrestling, Shooting.
I stay busy |
I played softball for...12 years? Well, the first few years were tee-ball, but...yeah. Center field was my favorite, and I played shortstop in high school.
Also played volleyball for seven years; I was a setter, made all league second team my senior year, and honorable mentions sophomore & junior year. Sadly, I don't play anything now...I want to get back into softball, though; hopefully I'll find a fast-pitch summer league this year... |
I was quite the athlete and tomboy back in my childhood...
I started playing soccer in kindergarten, and continued with that through my freshman year of hight school, so I like to hope I was good at it. I dabbled in ice skating for a year in first grade, don't really remember it. :) I was in gymnastics from first grade through seventh or eighth. Oh the good ole days of being in shape... I played basketball in fourth and fifth grade, but I wasn't any good there, being quite short. :p Once I hit junior high I was on the track and cross country teams, although sprinting with track was my specialty. I actually placed in State with the 100 meter dash, and my 4x200 relay. I also played volleyball in junior high, out team won conference, I don't know how much that had to do with me or not. :) Oh yeah, and I also did dance pretty much straight through from first grade till high school, and I was a cheerleader. Once I got to highschool I bascially had to decide between music and sports, and music won. I often wish I was in as good of shape now as I was back when I was so active. Time for me to hit the gym! :) |
when I was younger we (as in me and my sisters) used to be in gymnastics. We stopped going just when I was able to an honest-to-god backflip on my own.
Played basketball through my senior year, and my vertical was quite decent for being just a hair under six feet. I was good at three pointers and defense, but have not played much in recent years as my body seems to complain a great deal faster and longer than it used to. Also not much incentive anymore. Last time I tried going for the rim some time back, an easy task in high school even on a bad day, I was limping back in the house to sit after one jump. |
Lots of soccer players here. I too played soccer. Lets see, 3 years AYSO, 8 years club soccer, and in high school 4 years varsity soccer. Soccer let me see places normally i would have never seen. I was on the ODP (olympic developmental program)team in Illinois. It could have led to something great, but i ruined that by smoking weed and cigerettes. "If, if was a spliff, we all be high". Now, i just play golf for fun. Picked golf up 3 years ago, and its a very addictive sport.
|
Eight years of rec baseball, four of rec basketball, and yes, one of rec indoor soccer. Plus untold amounts of playground football. Stunk at them all, but loved to play (except the soccer...still can't figure out why I played :D)
|
I play CIS football, while it's no NCAA by any stretch, it's fun... and im getting a good education while im at it
|
Currently I Fence! It's soo much fun! I've done it for almost 7 years now.
In elementry school I played baseball one year. I had the entire national league rulebook for that year memorized. From 1st grade through the beginning of Jr. High I did X-Game style dirt moutain bicycle jumping where we would go down a hill, up and off a dirt mound, and do tricks in the air. I don't know how many times I've flipped over my handle bars, knocked my chest into my handle bars, landed on the bar (ouch to the future of the world...), or wrecked in some other way. But our wrecks never kept us out for very long. We'd just get back on the bike and keep jumping. Then I was always active doing one sport or another. |

I also play soccer. Striker/Forward - whatever you want to call it. I went to mexico for a couple of months and really learned how to play the game. Great game down there - people love it, and really show their dedication. Oddly enough, I had no skills at sports (barring the goaltending in hockey - which I was decent at) until I was 15. Late start, I guess, but now I've picked up to the skill of people my age in relatively little time. Not a bad thing in a way. Better now than never. |

As a kid I played hockey, baseball, and basketball. When I was in highschool I played volleyball, golf, and baseball. And throughout that time I snowboarded, played tennis and mountain biked. Now I do alot of snowboarding, I play golf when I can, and I try and have some games of tennis each year.
