Who do you pick to win the Stanley Cup?

As the hockey playoffs are under way, it is time for the common question of, "Who do you think is taking home the Cup?"

I am a Flyers fan so I would love to see them take it home. If they can get past Toronto I think they have a good chance, but getting past Toronto will be the tough part. :)

Who do you think will take home the Cup this year, and why?

laconic1 04-19-2003 05:16 AM

Obviously being from Colorado I want to see the Avalanche win, and I think they have an excellent chance. Around the all star game there was concern that they wouldn't make the playoffs but they finished very strong and came back to win a ninth straight division title. They are playing very well now and it will be tough for anyone to beat them.

HeyAgain 04-19-2003 06:02 AM

I have to say the Toronto Maple Leafs since I reside there myself.

It would mean a whole lot more for the fans of the Maple Leafs since we haven't had one Stanley Cup championship in over 35 years. As Leafs fans, we are fanatic about our team and very passionate about the game of hockey itself.

Go Leafs Go!

2003 Stanley Cup Champion - Toronto Maple Leafs (I hope)

The_Dude 04-19-2003 06:17 AM

i like ottawa

Mondak 04-19-2003 06:18 AM

Devils - you have to have a solid goalie. Broudour is a rock!

Fly 04-19-2003 06:51 AM

the canucks baby.

IC3 04-19-2003 07:24 AM

I really am not sure right now, But Ottawa is lookin solid...I just wanna see a Canadian team win...My beloved Habs did not even make the playoffs, So I am going for the Canadian teams.

ShadowWraith 04-19-2003 08:24 AM

Its all about the leafs, but Nolan really needs to step up if we're goin all the way. If not the leafs then i'd say the ducks just cuz they've worked so hard to beat detroit and i liked the movies :D

Tempboy 04-19-2003 09:03 AM

HOPEFULLY Ottawa.

As long as the winner isn't Deadmonton or Toronto, it's ok though. :)

relic 04-19-2003 10:42 AM

Ottawa all the way!

They're going to rock the cashbah!

maximusveritas 04-19-2003 10:45 AM

Stars. They'll come out of this one stronger.

bond007 04-19-2003 12:52 PM

Dallas.

BonneFan 04-19-2003 01:14 PM

I want the Canucks to win...but I think the Cup will stay in the West either way...prolly Colorado.

In the East..Ottawa and NJ will battle for East champs.

I want to see the Leafs do well, but they are getting their ass handed to them this afternoon...its probably over for them too

ToiletDuck 04-19-2003 01:38 PM

Wow! the Leafs look tired, and the Flyers have bigger goons. I'd like to see Ottawa win, but i think the avalanche will come out of this with the cup.

bundy 04-19-2003 02:47 PM

i think, and i know absolutely nothing about ice hockey, that its going to be Ottawa.

RAMONES!!! 04-19-2003 05:41 PM

Ottawa Dallas final Ottawa in 5

asmodaI 04-19-2003 10:16 PM

In reality, Colorado will probably win, even though I dont want them to. I'd like to see Ottawa pull it off. penguins didn't make it so I just watch the games as a neutral fan hehe =)

Two of my hated teams are out already (Detroit and Deadmonton)

Now if Toronto gets knocked out, it'll be 3 for 3.

Gooooooooo Philly!
Ottawa for the cup!!!!

Crazy_Man 04-20-2003 05:30 PM

The only real Hockey fan is a habs fan, but we suck :(

This year, I said in another post it will be the devils, but shit, really hard to predict

degrawj 04-20-2003 06:12 PM

DETROIT!!!!! (yes, i am still in denial)

Quadraton 04-20-2003 06:51 PM

I really don't know about the Ottawa Senators. I am a fan of them, but watching them play, I see the talent, but not the desire. They were very sloppy in the first round, and fell asleep at the wheel a few times, even after the first game.

And what the Hell was up with the Ottawa crowd in their last game with the Islanders. Were they gassed before the game? Final game in the series, Sens about to advance, and with the exception of the last minute of gameplay, they just weren't there. I've seen more life in a morgue.

elaphe 04-20-2003 09:14 PM

I'm a Leaf's fan, but I must *cough* tip my favour to the *cough* to the Senators.

I don't think Toronto will advance past Philly, so Ottawa won't have to worry about hitting the Blue wall of playoff defeat again.

(Boy, was that ever tough to admit)

relic 04-20-2003 10:41 PM

ottawa fans, i being one, were gassed cause first round means nothing.

getting pasted the second round has always proved to be a problem. I think playing philly this year (i don't see toronto winning) it'll be tough, since last years major ass kicking. If you don't know what i'm talking about it was the shut-out after shut-out after shut-out 4-1 series ass kicking. (only two goals allowed the entire series)

Sparky 04-21-2003 12:51 PM

Colorado Avalanche. From their 9th straight division title straight to the Stanley Cup.

It's sad that we act like it's the Ottawa Senators God given right to stroll through the first round. I mean, if it were me, and I could have actually made one of the games, I would have been very appreciative of the fact that the Senators were playing in the first round, and winning. You don't have to look any further than the Detroit Red Wings to see that anything can happen, and your team could be knocked out in the blink of an eye.

As for the Flyers, I remember what happened with them last year. I think Ottawa's in a catch 22 right now. They play Toronto, and the Leafs will find some way of obliterating the Senators. If it's the Flyers, they will definitely be looking for some payback from last year.

teflonian 04-22-2003 02:21 PM

I am another vote for Colorado. Though why they had to make it intersting and bring us to game 7 of the series with the Wild I don't know. 7 hours from now we will know if they are even moving on.

Hard8s 04-22-2003 03:18 PM

I think its going to be the Leafs and the Stars in the Finals. I like the Sens because of the low payroll. It shows the other teams in the league you don't have to spend to win.....but I think the Leafs will eventually roll over them. I don't see anyone in the west stronger than Dallas as long as Turco holds up!

2-0 Flyers, as we speak. Looks like they're gonna get their chances against the Sens again this year. *taps wood* Excellent.

Halx 04-22-2003 05:12 PM

I dont like hockey that much, but go ducks

matteo101 04-22-2003 10:39 PM

Ottawa and Vancouver.. Vancouver in 7 ... I HOPE...

dragon2fire 04-22-2003 11:40 PM

hehe back in june yes i said june

i told everyone i know that the stars would win it all

that said it would be good for me if they won

but man it would be sweet if the ducks a 8 seed won it all

paddyjoe 04-23-2003 04:17 AM

Sabres(just don't know what year)

splck 04-23-2003 05:52 AM

Canucks will take it all this year.

laconic1 04-23-2003 06:12 AM

Fucking Avalanche blew a 3-1 series lead and a 2-1 lead in the game last night. Hockey season is officially over now.

teflonian 04-23-2003 06:54 AM

I am with crazybill... :(

I say let the Wild and Ducks duke it out for the stanley cup...

GSRIDER 04-23-2003 12:08 PM

Now that the Wings and the AVS are out I going with the solid underdog and my homestate.... MINNESOTA!!!!!!!

It was a long shot for them to beat the AVS and i think these guys can HEART it out!!!!!!!!

gibber71 04-24-2003 09:14 AM

Being 5 minutes away from the Corel Centre I'll have to say Ottawa in 6 over Vancouver. One reason out of many is because this year the city hasn't yet mapped out the Stanley Cup parade route that they usually do sometimes around Groundhog Day.

maximusveritas 04-24-2003 09:19 AM

Now that the Avs and Wings are out of the way, the Stars have a clear shot to the, where I think they'll take out Philly.

Brian Fellows 04-24-2003 12:16 PM

Devils!! Gonna take the cup home one more time!!

beaudiggz 04-24-2003 03:01 PM

I'd love to see the Flyers take it now that they got my boy Claude Lapointe since my team(NY ISLANDERS) dissed him off the island but I think the Devils will take it back East this year.

plaino 04-25-2003 10:45 PM

I hope to see Ottawa and Dallas in the finals, with Ottawa coming away with the cup. Not that I particularly like nor dislike either of the teams... I just think that Ottawa needs nothing less than ol' Stanley to get out of the monetary problems they are in.

Even though I'm from the US, I don't want to see too many more teams come to the US from Canada. There are some teams in the NHL that are riduculous to have a team. Phoenix being the worst.... hockey in the DESERT?? WTF? And the Panthers need a new home too... anywhere where is doesn't snow often... just doesn't need a hockey team. (be aware I'm half-joking about these teams needing to move)

Loup 04-26-2003 04:01 AM

Ottawa from the East and Vancouver from the West.
With Ottawa hoisting the cup.

I agree with plaino with that there's too many teams out there right now thinning out the talent pool. But I'm just one fan who cares about the game, not an owner who wants his wallet full...

BlueFaceBeast 04-26-2003 04:23 AM

At the Beginning of the year I picked Vancouver to win the cup. (I live in Colorado and live and breathe Avalanche Hockey) Some of my freinds called me insane, but that was my pre-season pick. J.S.G. seems to be no fluke for the Ducks, and I see Dallas losing in 6. Can the Ducks beat the winner of the Wild/'Nucks game? Who knows. Will there be a west Cup winner again? Who knows. It's hockey....after all, TB could still win it all.

Krycheck 04-26-2003 10:06 AM

I would have picked the winner out of the East to win. Ottowa is looking good atm. But the Ducks look like they're for real out of the west.
Ducks and Ottowa in the Cup finals?
Ducks in 7

Another miracle out of Anahiem :D

doda 04-27-2003 08:48 AM

deaby 04-27-2003 11:02 AM

the ducks.. giguere is looking nasty
paul kariya is my fav player so i'd prefer the ducks anyway.

Valthonis 04-29-2003 05:30 PM

All I have to say is: GO FLYERS!!!

soccerchamp76 04-30-2003 01:32 PM

Anaheim....just ain't gonna stop Giguere now

jmf1234 04-30-2003 05:31 PM

Phillyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

bender 05-01-2003 06:52 AM

The Wings, Colorado, Leafs GONE and with the Stars on thin ince all thats left is Ottawa, the 'nucks, and Devils.
Minni, will run out of steam, and the Gigure will let in a goal sooner or later.
Vancouver out of the west they're too big to go down to the Wild, or the Ducks...and I really hate to say this but it's a toss up in the east with the Devils and Sens if the Devils win they'll take the cup if its Ottawa look to them to win it in 7

riverbag 05-01-2003 09:22 AM

Go Philly (though I think they're in over their heads with Ottawa). If not Philly, I'm hoping it'll be Vancouver.

Uuudar 05-01-2003 03:02 PM

I am saying the Devils will take it all, but I really hope the Ducks win. I'm sure Disney has payed off enough people to make both the Angels and Ducks win titles this year! I live like 5 minutes for Disneyland ;P <3 only Disney teams.

ducks in 6 canucks in 5

clockworkgreen 05-01-2003 07:10 PM

After tonight, if the Flyers are on their game, you see how they can shut down people....

I think Anaheim/Philly would be a great goalie matchup.

I just think hockey would reach an ultimate low if they had to engrave "Mighty Ducks" onto the Cup.

Quadraton 05-02-2003 06:58 AM

After that last Ott-Phi game (game 4), if Ottawa doesn't wake up from their comma, they're going to be on the golf course before they know it. It always has something to do about the second round. It's cursed.

Antikarma 05-02-2003 07:51 AM

NUCKS NUCKS NUCKS NUCKS

Guess who I think is gonna win it.

NUCKS NUCKS

Actually, I would like to see the Ducks take it, but mostly because of they took out Detroit.

Man, who would have thought it, Detroit and Colorado out the first round??

duracellultra 05-03-2003 12:45 PM

I'm not sure who will win; any of the remaining teams have a chance, minus the Canucks... They haven't the goaltending or talent to succeed against a real opponent.

GO ANAHEIM!!! I can't wait till a team with the name "Mighty Ducks" wins the cup! next year it'll be the Blue Jackets :)

Brian Fellows 05-17-2003 06:49 PM

Still gotta go withe the Devils, too much experience and too much talent.

Quadraton 05-17-2003 07:51 PM

I'm starting to think the only way Ottawa is going to beat New Jersey is if they slip laxatives in Brodeur's water bottle.

On second thought, he'd probably still stop pucks better than Lalime.

Hard8s 05-18-2003 01:27 AM

I would love to see any team from the East at this point win the Cup. I just don't want it to go to L.A. I can not stand to see the name 'Mighty Ducks' on the Cup. I'd love to see Brodeur win again, as he is a great goalie. THe devils also have a few ex-Sharks (doesn't everybody now a days). But .....I still like the Sen's small payroll. Shows the rest of the league you don't have to buy a team, you build it.

Like I said, and I hate to say it - Go Eastern Conference.

p.s. Gotta love the great hockey in these playoffs!

Lyncher 05-22-2003 09:12 PM

Well ... I think the Ducks days are numbered, they show alot of heart and work well as a team, but they are no match for the Eastern Conf. Champion. no offence to Ducks fans, but the ride was fun while it lasted and you knocked off 3 great teams and my hat goes off to you, but I am just not convinced that the Ducks can win a best of seven series vs. NJ or OTT. For instance Ottawa has loads of speed on the wings, impresive scorers, and strong D-men and also have the strong willed goaltending of Lalime. On the other hand New Jersey has big strong, hard hitting players who can also score and NJ also has arguably the best goaltender in the modern NHL ( Martin Brodeur ).
and those are my well informed thoughts "om" if you disagree

dragon2fire 05-22-2003 10:36 PM

they were a match for the red wings and stars

ducks all the way

quack

quack

o and ducks in 5

Young Link 05-22-2003 11:14 PM

If I didn't hear that post of yours a few dozen times Lyncher, then I would agree with you. The Ducks are playing with such heart, and they're having a Fun time doing it. I think they like being the underdogs, and they've proved it by knocking out the 1st and 2nd seeded teams in the West (2 teams that were considered very good odds at winning the cup)

It takes a lot more than just luck to beat Dallas and Detroit in the playoffs - it takes a great, hot Goaltender. This does appear to be Deja-Vu all over again. (Montreal '86 ring a bell?)

I think too many people are underestimating the Ducks... I mean they swept the defending champs, they ran over arguably the best team in the league this year, and then swept a team that beat both the Avs and Canucks in the playoffs.

They're for real... as long as Giguere stays hot, that is.

fienna 05-23-2003 06:58 AM

problem with giggy is that he's had 10 days to cool off... who knows if he'll be able to match the intensity that he played with in the first 3 rounds? honestly, if the devils make it through tonight, i'll be the first to say that he goes cold for Tuesday's game at "the Swamp" (i'll be there) but if Ottawa wins (god, i hope they implode tonight) then i'll be rooting for the Ducks to pull off the upset and win it all.

the Sens are too strong, and too young. they're gonna be a real big force for a lot of years to come...

Pheatius 05-23-2003 11:20 AM

Since my team did not even make the playoffs....Go Senators.
