2003 sleeper fanstasy picks

obsure players that are poised to blow every stat out of the water and rack up mega fantasy points this season.

my two:

1) donte stallworth (NO)
2) peerless price (ATL)

two receivers i feel are gonna pull more points than most qbs and rbs. (also Vol alums, WOOT!!!)

sportsrule101 07-17-2003 07:19 AM

price will have to prove he was worth the price, don't think he is to much of a sleeper though. his replacement in buffalo, josh reed, will be a good sleeper.

gov135 07-17-2003 08:52 AM

I agree with stallworth. He came one strong late in the season when he started getting more playing time.

I hope to get the Raven's D later then I should. They are still a top squad in fantasy rankings, but I think they are the best - and you can get them still in the fifth round. They made themselves even better in the draft, and Ed Reed should be stellar his second year.

Check out the second receiver situation in San Francisco. I'm not sure how good they'll be this year, but they'll still throw the ball alot. Their second receiver should have great value as a third fantasy receiver.

Quincy Morgan has had an excellent offseason for the Browns.

William Green is another player that had a strong second half. The Brown's offensive line is a big question mark, though.
You should be able to get Green late.

Jerry Porter in Oakland will get a ton of looks this year - he may even start.

That's about all I'm willing to divulge. :) Just my opinions. I follow the Cleveland Browns closely all year, and I can give anyone a report on any specific player if you want to pm me. STAY AWAY from the Brown's defense. They may be starting eleven guys that wouldn't make Baltimore's NFL Europe affiliate. I think Morgan and Green and Dawson (second kicker) have the most fantasy value on the squad.

I'm not sure anyone in Atlanta will be a sleeper, with all the attention they'll get. Mike Vick is not a number one fantasy quarterback, though. And their running back situation is something that makes fantasy owners sick (I think they have four guys who will get significant playing time).

BigGov 07-17-2003 09:03 AM

Donte is good, but who's passing to him is still in question. Brooks is coming off the shoulder injury and is having some difficulty. His backup is sub-par. He can't rack up points if he can't get the ball.

Atlanta is overhyped, especially for fantasy leagues. Vick is not the number 1 fantasy quarterback, McNabb still holds that spot. If you draft an Atlanta RB for your starter, you're a moron. If you pick Peerless as your main WR, you still need to prepare for a couple low weeks as Vick is still learning and still starts running a little early. The Falcons defense is ok, but there are much better choices, including the Bengals now that they have Marvin Lewis.

not a true sleeper, but Edgerrin James is gonna surprise everyone now that he is healthy. He sucked it up last season (Mongro was 100x better), but he spent this off season busting his ass, went to all mini camps, and is going to be prime to give me mucho puntos. :)

I don't think either of those can qualify as sleepers.

It is still a little far away for me to call, but i will return to this thread to give mine.

How productive do you think the cowboys defense will be?

Not worth starting in most leagues. If you like them, get them late and you may find a favorable matchup (READ: Arizona) or two.

Their corners are talented, but very, very young. They'll get burnt a few times a game. Defensive line isn't going to be a sack machine. Linebackers coming back from injuries.

It amazes me how a new coaching staff comes and all the sudden the players look better to everyone.

Get Dallas very late if you like them. But make sure you have a strong starting D. Who knows, the younger players could put it all together sooner than expected.

Daniel Graham and Deion Branch of the Patriots, who both had pretty good first seasons, but were slowed by injuries. I also would't be surprised if Larry Johnson had a good season if Priest Holmes' injury slowed him too much to play.

Hey I like the man but no matter how healthy he seems I'd still take James Mungro or whatever his backup is as a late rounder if I had him on my team.

I ltook Branch in my draft he wil end up good. Also Jake Denhomme looks good for Carolina.

sportsrule101 07-22-2003 05:36 AM

don't forget travis henry, he has something to prove this year if he wants to keep his job.

Brian Fellows 07-23-2003 12:41 AM

Marc Borigter for the Chiefs and Peerless Price with the Falcons

TXzombie 07-23-2003 07:41 AM

Matt Hasselback and Darrell Jackson with the Seahawks.

As a longtime Browns fan, I agree with the evaluations above regarding the Browns. And before you think about grabbing even these guys, let me add, I'm still not convinced the offensive line is going to be better. If they are good this year, it'll be all about Butch.

Lastly, while I can't believe I'm thinking this, if you are looking for sleepers you might think Bungles. Out of the blocks, Marvin Lewis looks to be a real solidifying factor for that franchise.

Just a thought.

Keep Listening.

marc bulger is the new kurt warner. warner will have a petty injury by week 2 and will sit for 10 weeks.

also if charles rogers is good at all the lions have no one else to throw to.

Peerless Price, are you kidding me. If anything, that guys numbers will go DOWN from last year. Look at who his QB is now. I mean, Vick will run the ball more then he will throw it. At least with Bledsoe, he just sat in the pocket and threw all day long.

Now, don't think that I am a Buffalo fan by any means, I love my Detroit Lions, but I believe that J. Reed will have a GREAT year. With Bledsoe back to his old form, and Price gone, the new number one on that team is Reed. And with a running game like they have with Henry and soon McGahee, not too much pressure will come Drew's way.

Again, he is just one of many sleepers this year in my opinion.

edmos1 07-24-2003 11:27 AM

no mention of Ahsly lelie? he could go off this year
