Favre to the Vikings...
 

Reports are out that Favre has signed with the Vikings though it hasn't officially been announced. Do you think this is good for the Vikings or bad?

Personally i'm interested to see what the Vikings can do with a decent quarterback. If this turns out to be true the Vikings are going to have a very dangerous offense to go with their already dangerous defense.

I'm betting he'll be at least as good as Rosenwhatsit or Jackson, but that the Vikings will characteristically find a way to disappoint.

that is true.. The Vikings are very good about losing when they should win.... you know like Gary Anderson missing his first field goal in 3 years to lose the championship game when the field goal was a chip shot....

As the resident Pack fan I'll tell you I'm happy. Favre isn't likely to stand up against the season and we have a defense and team that worked with this guy for years, and years, and years. Now we have two INT happy quarterbacks and a guy recovering from an injury in 2004.

Well the vikings and the packers have ran basically the exact same offense for years. The big question is how will AP do when teams can't put 8 in the box.

He is a Hall of Famer, but he can't throw like he did 5 years ago, no matter how many jump balls he tries to shoehorn in there. I think he is trying to put the Int record out of reach.

Let's be fair:

He had incredible seasons with the packers, and dipped when the team did (rebuilding 2005/06). A resurgence year in 07 where he led them to the NFC Championship. Last year he threw, what, 6 TDS (!?!), against the team that represented the NFC and almost pulled out one of the biggest underdog wins of all time.

Then he tore his bicep. It happens. It happens to players of any age. At 40 it's a lot harder to heal which is why everyone is throwing the "fail" tag at the Vikes. The truth is, if Favre can come back from this (really heal that is) then he is going to make The Vikings a threat for NFC super bowl reps.

I believe in my team though; I think that Packers are always just that lucky break away from winning.

I look forward to the Bears getting the opportunity to end his career.

Unless Tillman/Vasher or Danieal Manning/Josh Bullocks step up big to the plate for coverage, the Favre/Berrian connection could be devestating. If they can't do it, here's hoping the pass rush keeps Favre on the scramble.

Don't forget the Vikings are considered to have a great O-line. Probably from all the years of having a "quarterback" that couldn't complete a pass on time...

Look to Favre to throw mid-range passes early in the year, or, perhaps, throughout the whole season if he has truly signed. Which means he'll be facing Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and company. Which makes a big difference.

The Vikings will be facing a couple of pretty good front sevens in the Black and Blue.

The Packers have a line with three first rounders on it (Raji, Pickett, Harrell), a linebacking corps with three first rounders (Matthews, Hawk, and Barnett - the most underrated linebacker in the game) and Aaron fucking Kampman, who, in the OTA's, has been lauded over by pundits and sports journalists.

The Lions have the new trio of Sims, Peterson, and Foote which makes, in my opinion, one of the best linebacking corps in the league. They just brought in a monster nose tackle in Grady Jackson, and have Cliff Avril coming in on his second year which seems promising.

The Bears, I've already talked about their LB's, but their line is very underrated and can be devestating.

I don't expect the Vikes to destroy this year, nor do I expect the Bears. If anyone is going to have shocking success it'll be the Lions (not claiming a playoff berth, but they have a much better team then last year. Substantially better in every way - except o-line). I think the pack will surprise too. But with the Vikes you have a terrible, terrible coach and Chicago is too unreliable. I expect that to continue.

This is something we agree 100% on ;) I've been calling for Childress to be fired for years.

Oh come on. Favre coming back is a joke. How many times do we have to deal with these aging superstars that are past their prime coming "back". Brett Favre is two or three times past his prime. He will have flashes of his old self, flashes, and also play like a past your prime superstar and then jet injured. Ask the Jets about that one. He would be a great back-up q'back, mentoring a young QB and waiting in the wings to stand in. BUT, to build a whole team around him expecting him to last the season??? And maybe he will just change his mind and quit (oh I mean retire again). Is MAtt Millen involved in any of this stupidity?? Whoever the GM is for the Vikings is an idiot.

The problem with the Jets was that they ran a completely different offensive system than Favre was used to. With the Vikings that won't be the case. Also he likely won't need to force throws so much since AP and CT will open up the field for him. It is going to be an interesting season.

Thinking about this even more now I go back to the comment about basing the season on an "older" quarterback who may play for one season. There is no development of new, younger players. Then what happens next year or the more likely when Favre gets hurt. Most teams don't have a Matt Cassell to step in, much less have the coaching acumen to actually prepare him well for that occurrence.

The ViQueens are in a win now mentality. Your point about a one season quarterback might not be offbase, but between Sage and TJack, I like Favre. Maybe Jon David Booty might turn out to be a decent player, be he is pretty raw (to be honest I don't even know if he is on the squad). The whole team is set, our only major weaknesses are the LB core which is always a problem up here, and the reality that last year we went 10-6, and won our division by platooning Gus "gave myself a concussion" Ferrote and Tjack. If Brett is even 70% of what he was, we are golden.

Solid secondary. Serviceable WR core. Killer D-Line. Solid O-Line. And the best one-two running back tandum in the league.

Lets see how the aged Bears D can maintain. Also you have to note that yes they got Cutler, but they have nobody to throw to.
And the Pack-Attack could make it interesting.

No, the problem with the Jets is that Favre got lazy and went back to his gunslinging ways. Look at their record in the beginning of the season, and look how they finished out. You can't blame a team or an offensive style for him closing his eyes and lobbing passes directly to the defense.



I hope somebody hits Favre so hard his head spins off. I am so fucking sick of this guy, and most everybody else is too. He's doing nothing at this point but ruining his credibility and his dignity.

I guess we will never know how he could have done. Farve is officially retired (again, again).

It is funny how things sometimes work out. It appears he is now going to the vikings after all.

It was always his plan to go to the Vikings. I was waiting for training camp to finish before he joined. In fact, I made a $50 bet that he would join with two weeks of camp ending. The Vikings broke camp early, and you ould speculate that they did so hoping Favre would come in earlier but Brett isn't there to be a team player anymore, he's just there to play.

I think it bodes well for the other teams in the black and blue. Childress is an idiot; he'll spend too much of his time trying to insert favre that it'll be a wash. They have a run first offense but Favre won't stand for that. I'd say that part of his agreement is a change in their offensive philosophy. Bad idea. But Childress and Wolfe are going to do what they are going to do.

The Pack and Detroit (barring injuries) will be the stars (relatively) of that division this year. The Bears defense is up in smoke (age/injuries) and their offense just realized what they got in Jay Cutler the moment he publicly blamed an under thrown ball on the receiver. Favre is only good to the Vikings as a solid, reliable quarterback; they don't need gaudy numbers. But that's Favre's game. I don't see how this will work out well for them.

So many of these aging, dare I say over hill athletes, just don't know when to hang it up. All their fans are left remembering not the great years, but those last few pitiful games. I had a couch who once said; "you are only as good as your last race" well maybe adding in you are only remembered by your last game, may be a bit extreme, BUT I remember Favre looking pretty lousy last season in NY. And he/they think he is going to get better??? well older yes better. I doubt it.

I am going to shoot that ass nugget if someone else doesn't do it first. He has just RUINED the 1/2 hour of Mike and Mike I get to see every morning.

How did Cutler look in the 2nd PRE-season game? Pretty damn good if you ask me. I don't care if he throws his receivers under the bus if they are bad (and Hester is not a #1 receiver by a long shot) and in this case he later said it was a bad throw.

I haven't been this excited about the Bears since...I don't know. I think they'll go at least 11-5.

hang em up farve. you're done. i still think that he's a top-3 all time quarterback...but he destroyed his reputation beyond repair. as a die hard bears fan, i am confident and pleased to say; that even our old as dirt defense is going to have a field day with ol' #4. can't wait!!!

Top 3 in what? If you mean overall performance, and I don't mean just the recent Favre, I can think of at least 3 ACTIVE QB's I 'd put ahead of him.

now the Bears have a real problem. Tommy Harris is not 100% with the knee, Dvoracek is out for the season. Adams is doing ok, it seems, and the Alex Brown/Ogunleye is always looking good, but we're going to be short on the inside. Not good prospects considering AP.

Most of the people of MN didn't want to buy the Twins a new stadium. I don't think the vikes will get a new stadium any time soon. Unless the economy stops sucking. I think right now, the idea of spending a shit load of taxpayer money on something that is guaranteed to be used just 10 times a year mostly for the benefit of millionaires won't go over so well. There are groups who'd gladly spend that kind of money to provide insurance for the poor and there are groups who'd gladly reduce taxes. I don't think there are a lot of people who think a new stadium is a good idea.

Given that whomever is governor after Pawlenty will have a herculean task of getting the state out of all the debt that Pawlenty has been shuffling around to "balance" the budget without raising taxes, I don't think a new stadium will be a high priority.

I don't think Favre intentionally tried to hurt that guy. Favre is just not a blocker and doesn't know the proper way to block. Also if you look Favre wasn't really low on the crackback. More than likely he was just trying to get in the way and did it in a stupid move. The good news is the guy doesn't seem to be hurt.

Favre looked considerably better and had a great QB rating following last weeks game. He only had 1 TD pass but it was during a 2 minute drill and he should have had 1 more but Percy dropped an easy pass.

to be perfectly honest, I would have thought the same thing about the new cowboys stadium, but the people of Arlington saw tax revenues only.
