Disc Golf
Check out this movie trailer for the movie Chains, which will be about the up and coming sport of disc golf:
you can read all about the game here: Disc golf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia if you grew up liking frisbees, or if you like hiking, or if you just enjoy being outdoors in general, then this sport might be something worth your time to try out I started playing about 5 years ago and the sport has really started taken off in recent years - the # of courses in the world has doubled since I started playing its a lot of fun and I recommend trying it out if it sounds like something you might be interested in |

This got me interested enough to see how many courses there are in Australia - atm, not many, but the closest to me is in Sydney Olympic Park (about 1/2 hours drive away). This is the only one in NSW, so the next closest is in the ACT (about 4 hours drive away). Might be something interesting to try, but I think it is unlikely I'll trade in my golf clubs just yet.

I used to play all the time. This was a few years back. I haven't thrown a disc in forever. In fact, I don't think I even have my discs anymore. I had over 30..
It was fun.. I used to enter in tournaments and the funnest tourney I ever played in was a 9hole disc/9hole ball golf tourney. |

I don't play, but my SO and several friends do. I join them and walk around the course while they play. Typically he plays on a course here in town, but my favorite course so far is the one at Central Oregon Community College in Bend: Panoramio - Photo of COCC Disc Golf Course Beautiful paths through Ponderosa pines, up and down paths through volcanic rock, and a view of the Central Cascades.

-----Added 13/1/2009 at 07 : 43 : 33----- Also, for those interested in finding courses near their area, you can visit this website: Disc Golf Course Review: View and review over 3000 Disc Golf Courses! This website is fairly new (less than 2 years) and is user driven, so it may not contain every course, particularly those in other countries. However, from my experience, it is very informative and continuing to improve. You can read reviews on the different courses as well as look at the rating system to determine which courses are considered the best by those who have played them. This is certainly a good tool if your interested in finding courses in your area you did not know about or want to try out a course for the first time and want to see what other users think about this particular course. I would throw forehand (I called it sidearm for some reason), backhand or tomahawk style depending on what hole it was. Different speeds and angles. For instance, since I'm right handed, if I threw it backhanded the disc would always make a slow left curve, if I needed the opposite then I would sidearm it. I would tomahawk if I needed a half figure 8 effect to get around some funky trees or something. I could even make the disc roll if the tree levels were high and the ground smooth.
I was decent.. maybe I should start playing again. |
