D-backs
Arizona owns an 11 game winning streak and is suddenly back in the NL West race.
The Diamondbacks have done this without Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling. It may sound ridiculous to say, but are the Diamondbacks better off without them?? With those 2 brilliant pitchers, it's possible that the team was relying on them to save them every 5 days. Now, without them, everyone is hustling and doing the little things needed to win. Of course, they would rather have those 2 on the mound, but are the D-backs a better team without them--at least for a short time??? |

No, they are obviously much worse without them, and other injured talent. They both had problems right out the gate, and they've been plagued by other injuries.
Basically it's younguns, Steve Finley (I think, I'm tired so it might be another Steve, the CF) and Luis Gonzolez just playing hard baseball. Look for the D-Backs to go a tear after the All Star Break when they get healthier.

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |
