Can Usain Bolt take the 400 Metre record too?
He ran 400's when he first started and apparently does good times in training... if he turns his mind to it, I think he can take that record too and hold all of them.
Michael Johnson calling him Superman 2 is a bit of an insult, he's the lightening bolt and I think he can overwrite every record Superman 1 put up Imagine if he did it... it would be out of this world, and he has the power and the size. There are some great 400 runners out there, and I dont know if its possible, but I dont think we have seen the limit of what Bolt can do yet. I dont think there is any sprinter in any distance who wants to see Bolt on the inside of him in any case! |
Bolt has said he doesn't like the 400m cause it's too long and too much work. He made a deal with his coach if he broke a world record in the 100m, he wouldn't have to run the 400m. Bolt has a terrible work ethic. The scary part is, just imagine if he actually tried and worked at it. It's mind blowing. This guy is pure talent.

No, he can't. The races are too different, and I don't think that Bolt's the guy to make an attempt to do more than he has to.
I also don't think that the pure speed talent that he's got will translate well into the 400. His 200-300 split would almost certainly be godawful. Interesting thought, though. |
Bolt's PB for the 400 is 45.28 in 2007 as a 20 year old whose main focus was the 200. Not bad ...
|
I'd love to see him run it... at the moment I dont think we really know what his limits are at all... I know splits are unreliable in a 4*100m, but I heard today on TV that he was only 0.2 seconds down on Asafa Powell's relay time (and he ran the bend, and Asafa was flying..) - I think he is strong enough to do a 400, pure speed isnt enough to win a 200 and break WR either. I thought they might have given him a go in the 400 relay, as they didnt have that great a team - but maybe they didnt want to disrespect the athletes that they already had for that event.

id agree with jazz. the two races are very different. you actually ahev to pace yourself with a 400, whereas the 100 & 200 you can go all out and dont have the opportunity to sit on the back.
its like gebraselaisse going from marathon to 10km. he cant compete because your muscles are used to running a different type of race. haille knew that. had he still been running the 10000, he may have taken gold off bekele. |
