Teams you love to hate?
 

Sometimes it is just as important to have a team(s) to cheer against as it is to have a team to love. Rivalries are great and sometimes you just hate a team for no particular reason, but hey that is what it is all about.

The teams that I really do not care for:

NFL – The Cowboys, but they suck right now so who cares.

NHL – The Detroit Red Wings – Because

MLB – The Atlanta Braves – The are NOT America’s team

College Football – UT (University of Tennessee) – Orange uniforms remind me of prison inmates.


What team(s) really raise your ire?

Louisville - Screw Pitino, should have never went to the NBA

Yankees - Just out of principle

Duke - I don't know, if you live in Kentucky you have to hate Duke.

Lakers - I nearly got a hard on watching them cry in the playoffs

As you might can tell, I'm a Kentucky fan for life

Avalanche- Because I'm a Redwing fan

The Yankees- they garner most of my hate.. I am a Red Sox fan

Carolina-Sky Blue is so wussy.. DUKE ALL THE WAY!!

If you play in the New York area, and your colors are blue and orange, you suck.

edit... i should also add, that Aussies REALLY love to hate all English sports teams, even the lawn bowls, and especially their cricket team. maybe this comes from our colonial background or maybe its just fun to beat the poms.

I hate the Lakers, I don't much like L.A. as a whole (no offense if anyone lives there). I'm so happy the Spurs showed them up (for 2 reasons, TD=MVP)

Living in Liverpool and being a true red, it won't surprise some of you to know that there are 2 teams in particular that I just love to hate. Our poor neighbours, Everton (there, I said it!) and those 'too big for their boots' Manchester United.

The former will forever be in our shadow, wherever their new stadium may be.
The latter have had a good run recently, but they will never come close to being the great team that Liverpool have been in years gone by and for years to come.

Sorry, I had to get that off my chest!

Notre Dame - I hate, I hate, I HATE Notre Dame...let's see, how did warrrreagl put it...

Yea, pretty much. I hate the special football treatment they get with NBC and the BCS. I hate that they play basketball like part of the Big East but play football like they were God's gift to the NCAA; you're either in you're not, not frikking half and half (see: Temple). I hate how Regis Philbin promotes them, I hate the movie Rudy, and I just plain hate the little fighting leprechaun, an Irish mascot for a school with a French name. Oh well.

Penn State - I hate the selfish media coverage in my adopted hometown area of Johnstown/Somerset, where Penn State reigns high and mighty, and Pitt makes the second page. Ok, Ok, so I don't hate Penn State as much as I used to, since we don't play Moo-U anymore in football and their basketball team isn't doing too hot right now, but I really hate how Pitt's hatred of Penn State (i.e., shouting "Penn State Sucks" at every major football and basketball event, regardless of who we're playing) has embarrassed "The Powers That Be" at Pitt so much that the beloved breakstrain to Pitt's "Victory Song" was removed two years ago and shows no sign of returning. So maybe Penn State isn't so bad, but there's something about the colors blue and white and the abscence of gold that makes me want to puke.

The Toronto Maple Leafs. Shane Corson walking out on the team in the middle of the playoffs because he wasn't getting enough ice time was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Well, there are some teams you simply have to hate. First of all, any team from Ohio. Yeah, OSU got lucky last year in football, but how many of their championship years have my beloved Michigan ruined? HAHAHA.

For hockey, I hate the Devils. They ruined the game. Can it get any more boring than watching a trap?

For soccer, I hate Beckham. He's a fag. He's horrible. He looks like a queer, so any team he ends up on I despise.

For BBall, I hate Indiana Pacers. Thanks for selling us out, Isiah. Good thing your team sucks! Good thing you're a horrible coach. We need to get Lambier over here to punch some sense into you.

In Aussie Rules, I hate Carlton (I'm an Essendon supporter!) and I hate the Poms in everything coz we just love to beat them (cricket, football, rugby, union, the list goes on...)

As for US sports, well I dunno lately - Yankees are annoying, I never liked the Cowboys and for some reason the Knicks (maybe its the name thing...)

I hate University of Arizona and Oklahoma in college football. As for pro, I hate the Packers and Redskins since I like the Cowboys. I don't watch baseball since its too boring, but from what I've seen I hate the Texas Rangers. But the team I hate the most is the god damn Lakers. They are the biggest whiners in all the major sports, they're like soccer players always taking dives when they get pushed a little or get screened, or when they're BLOCKING players who are driving to the hoop. I wouldn't say they don't have heart, just NO toughness. And now I'm going to hate them even more since the dirtiest player in the NBA, Karl Malone, is headed over there. I'm so glad the Spurs knocked them off and made Kobe cry. He better hope these sexual assault charges go away soon, or things are just going to be worse for him this year. I like Gary Payton, though, so I hope he gets his stats and fights with Kobe when he gets more attention.

College football: Texas-why the arrogance? Accomplished what? When?
College BAsketball: Duke-Cause they win, win, win. Not a bad thing really, just had to pick someone.

Wow, a thread right up my alley. Get ready, this could be a long list and I've got a damn good reason for each and every team :)

Let's get a few of basic ones out of the way first:

Yankees - They are from New York and I cheer for the Braves... nuff said.

Lakes - Fun to hate the winners and I really dispise Shaq and Kobe's whining.

Texas Longhorns - one name, Mac Brown. He used to be the head coach at Carolina, he will be forever hated for this reason. Once he moves on, I'll probably be neutral towards Texas.


Now things start to get a little more personal:

Carolina Hurricanes - I absolutely hate hockey. It's a yankee sport and needs to stay in Canada and the north. You can imagine my dismay when the Hurricanes moved to Raleigh. Not only am I forced to see their damn little flags waving on about every carpet bagger's car but I find it hard to enjoy NC State home basketball games because of the Hurricane shit hanging from the rafters and put around the walk areas. I hope this fuckers leave town before too long.


Florida Gators - this was primarily because of my hate for Spurrier but continues because of their fans. This all stems back from my experience as a child at the 1992 Gator Bowl. It was NC State vs. Florida. The Wolfpack lost and their fans were the obnoxious assholes on the planet. I was just 8 years old or so at the time and they were all in face, waving their damned blue/orange pom-poms and taunting me the entire walk back through the stadium to the car. No class at all.

East Carolina - this is a pretty bitter one that stems a lot from their fans and a lot of hurt pride on my behalf. I remember clearly one trip to Charlotte for a special meeting between NC State and ECU. It was a rainy, miserable day and the game wasn't much better. The pack got their asses handed to them but this second rate, chicken shit operation. This was in the dark years of Wolfpack football under Mike O'Cain. Their fans were tactless and classless 100% as well. My famly refers to them as "vandals" instead of "pirates" for the shit they've pulled at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. It burns me up just talking about it.


Ok, so those are the personal ones, now its time for the deep rooted, programed hatred.

Georgia: This is a recently formed one. Since I became a student at Georgia Tech, I realized I had to hate these people, at first just for the sake of the rivalry but it has evovled. Watching this past years game against them certainly didn't help any either. On top of that they are cheaters, their university is a sleaze pit, a white trash version of Chapel Hill.

Carolina:

This has been hatred from birth. This is one of those things where it is good vs. evil, God against the devil, USA vs. USSR, Allies vs. Hitler. NC State vs. UNC is the same, if not more important.

Let me give you a little bit of background info on myself and my family first, it will help explain this. My father and uncle both went to NC State where they fostered their initial hatred. My dad had a sticker on his locker that said this:

"<insert picture of carolina blue here> This is carolina blue, see it, hate it, BEAT IT!"

My Dad did an excellent job of passing this hatred on to me. A story that is often told about him is that he cheeered for the Soviets over unc during the cold war. I guess a more modern comparison would be if Osama Bin Laden or Saddam played against unc. I would happily cheer for anyone who plays against Carolina, even if they've just finished slaughtering a 1000 school children, they are still less evil than carolina.

If anyone here is a local to triangle, they probably remember when carolina's mascot was kidnapped and brutatly killed. I remember my teacher in school at the time was a big carolina fan and she was making us write letters or some bullshit like that in class to the university expressing out sadness and support. I wrote about how sad I was that I didnt' get to see the damn thing suffer and wasn't apart of burning its carcass. Yeah... I got in trouble but the assignment was one sided carolina fed bullshit.

Growing up, I was one of the few State fans at my school, all throughout elementary school I had smug UNC fans for friends and teachers. I grew up through some dark years too. Oh, there were some good times during my early youth, but I was too young to enjoy it. I started to really take football personall at the end of Dick Sheridan's reign and the start of Mike O'Cain's drop to the bottom. I watched State go from a 6 or 7 game winning streak against Carolina to a 6 or 7 game losing streak against those bastards. After every game I would take it in the chin wherever I went, friends, teachers, hell out fucking local paper might as well be carolina blue.

That's just football, its difficult for me to talk about basketball. These past two years in basketball are the only times I can vividly remember State sweeping Carolina. I had to sufer through those years of carolina's NCAA championships, hearing about Jordan's championships (oh yes, I was never able to forget where he came from), and just a constant attack on the things I held dear to me in the world. On top of that I am reminded of them everywhere I turn. Those pig fuckers had to choose the state nickname as their mascot. So around town I always see stuff like "Tarheel body shop" or "Tarheel eatery" or "Tarhell computer". I hate every last one of those establishments.

Brighter times are upon me now though. I had the pleasure of sitting in the ram's club section of Kenan Stadium to see the Pack beat unc this past fall. It was simply beautiful, watching their beaten students file out of stadium with nothing more to say then, "well... at least we don't go to a cow college" (NC State is often called "moo u" by stupid unc fans because of its rich agriculture and vet programs, however this isn't even the main focus of the school anymore, State is well known and respected engineering institution, not just another bullshit, liberal arts girl's school). My car got rear ended on the way home from the gam but that didn't even phase me, I was too happy about the outcome of the game.

Even though I am converting myself to die hard Georga Tech fan (which is tough considering for the 18 years I was diehard wolfpack all the way), I will always hate carolina. That is one that thing that will remain constant. I will always, always hate carolina. The sight of an arena full of carolina blue physically brings pains to my eyes. I can barely stand to watch carolina home games on tv, I can feel my eyes start to burn slightly when it pans to the crowd and you see them all decked out in white and pussy blue. I hate them so very, very much.

The sad part about all this is that as I lessen my ties to NC State they enter a period of success. The basketball program is finally out of the gutter and Chuck Amato has the football program on the way, in the next couple years I fully expect this team to finish in the top five. On the flip side, as I establish my ties to Georgia Tech the football program is at the start of what seems to be a downward slide. Gone are the years of O'Leary and the Fridge where Tech would compete for the ACC title and often be seen in the Gator Bowl. We are also a long way from Tech's 1990 national title. It seems as though I'm doomed to cheer for the beaten, nearly broken, annual underdog but we shall see.


So there you have it, my mini novel about my deep rooted hatred of some teams in the world of sports. I can imagine if all of us were in a room together that probably most of you would be stepping back from me right about now. That's completely understandable, I admit I take college sports, way, way, way too seriously and I probably have small screw loose somewhere because of it. But, I'm a diehard college sports fan, that's how I am, and that's how I'll die. Or who knows, it might kill me. I've nearly broken my hand punching the wall after frustrating losses on more occasions than I care to admit.

Hate the yankees, almost more then i like my favorite teams in any sport. also don't like Flordia state, or nebraska.
I do go to school in ohio, and the hate there for the blue and gold, is almost frightening

MLB - Never hated any particular team, and after the strike I never got back into watching Baseball.

MLB: Braves. Getting tired of watching them run away with the division year after year. Of course when you play i n the same division as Montreal, Philidephia and Florida...

NBA: The whole league. Used to be a fan but haven't been able to watch a game in years.

NFL: Raiders. No real reason, just have to have at least one team I like to watch get beat.

everyone picks on the big shots, teams that always win, Yankees, Lakers, Cowboys, etc..
I think there should be a more merit-based hate system in place.
The Cowboys are a team with no superstars, a coach that's finally in charge, an owner who has changed his tune/attitude it seems, no crazy trades on draft day, just keeping a low profile and doing what needs to be done.
The Lakers have given those who hate them even more reason to do so. In no other sport and no scenario I can imagine would it be possible for a team to attract free agents that will have such an unfair impact. Yes, I said unfair, and I'm not whining, it is the truth. Veteran stars want rings, that's understandable. But they totally altered the landscape of the league by playing for far less than they are worth. (Plus the whole Kobe thing.)
The Yankees are more obnoxious than the Cowboys ever were, and Derek Jeter is extremely overrated. The Rocket helps people hate them too.
What other teams that are deserving of hatred?
Miami Hurricanes - who's even heard of Miami University outside of college football, and maybe basketball. They don't have the history or the real college experience of Alabama or Penn State or Ohio State or Nebraska or Oklahoma or Michigan or Notre Dame or Texas, or even the other Florida schools, and I don't like them.
I also don't like Phil Eagles, cause they have obnoxious, hateful fans. I'll get off of my soapbox now.

steps back up on it. I also hate expansion teams that do well from the start, without building. Rays, DBacks, who can forget Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars winning in playoffs in like their second year. It makes me feel bad for the Texas Rangers, the Browns, the Pheonix Cardinals, the Clippers, etc..
And also the Ravens, I don't like them either.
