Pete Sampras

Pete offically retired today. He was always my favorite player. Class act, one of the best (in my opinion the best) ever to pick up a tennis racket. He'll be missed.

a great player indeed.

i've seen him play when i was a little kid when agassi/sampras were the top players in the world (back in the days of stephie graff).

anyway, i'll miss him too.

He carried himself with grace. I know that doesn't earn you endorsements, or capture the attention of America (which is disturbing) but hopefully it allows him to sit back and have absolutly no regrets.

If my future grandkids ever as me about him, the first thing out of my mouth will be "class-act."

feeling tingly

During a recent interview, he described himself as a player from the 50's in the 21 century. He didn't have much of a personality and with a society so focused on flash rather than substance, he didn't get as much credit as he deserved.

great guy, great tennis player. Although it's understandable the approach that he took, retiring right after beating Agassi would've been the storybook ending as opposed to waiting a year later. But as many of you said, he's substance over style. What I recommended would fall into the style category.

Just thought I would pay my respects to Pete. He provided us all with many great tennis memories over the years.

Really sux that he couldn't get the French but he will always be one of the best in my mind.
