I agree with the jazz about the big east needing a conf championship but, i also believe the pac 10 needs one i mean come on spurts? the big east has been good for the last like 3 or 4 years only really and the pac 10 produces at least one bcs contender every single season maybe which team it is producing changes in streaks but it doesnt change the production from the conference. If Dennis Dixon hadn't gone down would you have accepted oregon as being better than USC which is playing great right now (granted oregon was as well) i kno i wouldve liked to see oregon and USC duke it out again for all the marbles. plus the big east has only one top 25 ranked team and outsider looking in in Uconn(which is officially 25 but unranked in the AP polls). the pac-10 has had 3 #2 ranked teams or higher this season. But, Either would get more out of a champ game than the big 12 which was weak this year which resulted in 2 slightly above average teams (Missou and Kansas) to excel.

I'm getting pwnd in my College Bowl Contest. Among the teams I incorrectly picked to win: AZ St, UConn, UCF, GA Tech, USF. The worst part is that I'm from Oregon and I picked South Florida only to see them blown out. Unpredictability is the charm of College Football though, too bad there's no way I'm getting my $20 back.

OK, since we all know my Gamecocks suck the big fat floppy donkey dick this year, should I be surprised the Fortuna, that tawdry whore, has put the Illini into the Rose Bowl? This is just wild and whacky stuff here, but I get to pull for my other school to beat the crap out of the other USC.
And Clemson lost. :D |
I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been more posts lately... has everyone already moved on from football?
I'd say the most exciting bowl game so far was Michigan/Florida. I kept waiting for Michigan to implode or Harvin/Tebow to take over, but the Wolverines kept their intensity up, despite 5 turnovers and a blown 14-point lead. The Rose Bowl definitely messed up when it picked Illinois to match up with USC. Georgia/USC would've been an awesome game. Also, the fact that Missouri was left out of the BCS altogether is nearly criminal. They beat both Illinois and Kansas who are playing in BCS games and they dismantled Arkansas completely, who beat LSU not too long ago. |
I would have posted, but the bowl games didn't amount to anything worth talking about...

Tennessee beat Wisconsin, so I'm happy. $500 happier. And Phil gets to keep his job, which I like.

OSU should be banned from NC games which don't include Terry Porter, 'cuz they can't win without him :P
|
Congratulations to Kansas for winning the National Championship.

Hey for a year that was supposed to be a rebuilding year and knowing next year these guys have experience under their belt and one of the hottest recruited classes..... I'd say my OHIO STATE BUCKEYES did pretty damned good by just getting into the NC game.
Tressel is one Hell of a coach. May not always win the NC but he gets us there and whips Michigan's ass in the process. |
I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, WHAT was with the officiating? OSU makes a great defensive stand, then gets nabbed with the "roughing the kicker" penalty, which completely changed the game from manageable to out of reach. Toss in about 3 or 4 personal fouls for guys running their mouths or a very questionable late hit call, and it seemed like LSU was starting at OSU's 30 every time they touched the ball. Not to mention, the only personal foul they even showed on replay, LSU's player had a Buckeye in a choke hold, and the Buckeye just got flagged on a retaliation shove.
It just seems to me that the refs were on a bigger bandwagon than the media was for this one. Congrats GEORGIA on their national championship. |
OK, LSU beat the snot out of OSU. From midway through the first to the end of the 3rd, it was all LSU.
The roughing-the-kicker call was absolutely right. He hammered the kicker without touching the ball. It wasn't running-into-the-kicker since he made hard contact. If he'd made contact with the ball, it would have gone the other way, but the officials got it right. The late hit call looked wrong from the sideline view, but if you watched the replay, the LSU palyer was clearly already out of bounds when he got hit. Georgia didn't even win the SEC East. They're no more national champions than Tennessee is - and Tennessee beat Georgia, by the way. Maybe the Pac-10 and Big-10 will start talking out some sort of limited playoff system now. Those are the two big holdouts here, and the Big-10 got hammered again in the bowls. Maybe.... |
Wow, the ESPN "analysts" couldn't wait to slam the Buckeyes again. Can you even call yourself an analyst if you are clearly biased towards or against one team/conference? I think the GameDay crew does a great job of providing objective insight, but I think the rest of the ESPN staff (Mark May, Pat Forde, Ivan Maisel, and Mark Schlabach, etc) has an obvious bias against the BigTen. I really don't understand why nearly everyone outside of Ohio hates OSU so much.
Anyway... congrats, LSU. |
The only thing this season has shown is that there's no question that a playoff needs to be implemented to end this bowl BS. All the NCAA needs to do is say, "ok, here's our system, you can either play in our tournament or go play in some meaningless bowl game."
Any excuse that a university administrator gives that a playoff won't work in I-A is invalidated by the fact that a playoff in I-AA has worked for years. |
