A-Rod and the quest for 500

How about the Yankees tying a club record by hitting 8 homers on Tuesday and then in yesterdays game hitting another 5 homers but none but the league leader A-Rod.

Also Rodriguez went 0-for-4 last night and doesn't have a hit in 21 at-bats, matching the longest hitless streak of his big-league career. I feel like the hex is on... comments?

Players slump, it happens. I'm no fan of A-rod or the Yanks, but seeing as the Yanks are winning despite A-rod's slump, that's the more important issue. Team goes before a player's individual stats.

Same thing with my Angels, Vlad Guerrero hasn't hit a homer since before the All-Star break (well, he won the HR derby, but they don't really count, do they?) But the Halos have managed to hang onto first place in the AL West. Meanwhile Matthews Jr, Anderson and Cabrerra have been slugging them out.

Looks like he's pressing a bit and changed his swing to have a little more uppercut to hit homers to get to 500. The reason he has been so dangerous for his career is that he normally has a nice level swing through the zone and hits what essentially are line drives with backspin that easily carry out, without him overswinging.

Yankees announcer Michael Kay said it best, "Milestones have become millstones."

I went to the game tonight against KC. Its amazing how many posers pop out of the woodwork. A guy sitting in the front row was the only person in our section standing up everytime A-Rod came to bat - even though he was asked multiple times by multiple people to please sit down. His response - "He was witnessing history". That's fine and "swell" but how about the little boy sitting behind him that now can't do the same.

BTW - he left after the seventh inning and missed A-Rod's last at bat in the ninth. Fuckin' tool!
