Running
Okay, quick question. I've been running sporadically the past few months, almost always at night, like after 9p. I have no problems going to sleep right after exercising, as some have complained about. I've been reading a lot about running when you first wake up. Is it really that much better to do it then rather than at night? I have tried it a couple of times and it is so hard to get up and run. It's literally the last thing I want to do at that time in the morning. =p But if it's that much more beneficial I'll get my lazy ass up and do it.

The major benefit of running in the morning is it gets your heart rate up and your metabolism running on high early, which will result in a higher metabolic rate over the course of the day, or so i've read from 18,000 different books, magazine, and reasonable webpages. Me? I say run at night if that's what makes you happy. If you are bothered to get out of bed early to run, eventually running will bother you and you'll likely stop doing it. Better to run at night and be happy, than run in the morning and be miserable or not run at all.

I agree you should run when you feel most energized. Yes, running early does technically aid in metabolic elevation throughout the day, but that's no good if you can't drag your butt out of bed to go for a run at 6 AM.
BTW, we do have an exercise forum. |
