Boston Red Sox icon Johnny Pesky will have to leave the dugout during games this season because of a major league rule that limits the number of coaches allowed in uniform.

Johnny Pesky reportedly wasn't too happy hearing the news that he won't be allowed in the Red Sox dugout this season.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said the team was told by the commissioner's officer it will enforce the rule that limits uniformed personnel in the dugout to players, managers, and six coaches. Francona said the Red Sox received a stern letter from baseball threatening substantial fines.

"They warned us so many times, I think they got tired of it," he said Friday before the Boston's exhibition game against the Philadelphia Phillies. "I've seen the letters in the past."

Pesky took the news hard when Francona told him this week.

"I sat down with him and talked with him about, and he was hurt," Francona said. "I understand. But the rules are what they are."

J.P. has been with the club better than 57 years and to do this is sacreligious... when they won the series MLB took him out of the dugout and made him sit in the stands... he's a God in baseball let alone the sox organization...

bring the commish to fenway, charge him parking rates of $40 like we pay or make him take the train, make him sit with the bleacher creatures, pay $5 for a weiner, and $10 for a beer, check his ticket every time he returns from the john from relieving his weak bladder...

How long has this rule been in affect?

If its been on the books for several years, and the Bosox have been ignoring it, then its only fair that they play by the rules. Legend or not, rules are rules.

If this just came to be this year, in an attempt to single out Pesky, then it's unfair.
