devils win

ARGHHHH!!!!

i hate the devils

The_Dude 06-09-2003 07:04 PM

lol, i wanted the ducks to win too!

but those 2 early (2nd pd) goals killed them.

crackpot 06-09-2003 07:46 PM

Dammit, me too.
But congrats to the Devils for whipping out some of their patented boring game trap skills when up by one or two goals. God that annoys me. Grr. Yawn. Grr. Yawn.
Giguere wins the Conn Smythe, that's good. The fans booing him for that, that's cruddy of them.

i'm very happy that gigure won, but the fans pissed me off

Krycheck 06-09-2003 08:19 PM

That was pretty low class of those fans to boo Giguere.
That guy played his ASS off in these playoffs. He deserved at least that. It was hard to see him cry at the end tho. Goes to show how emotional the Cup finals are and how much it means to these players.

Ducks played there best game at NJ and still lost. Sadness :(

Tirian 06-09-2003 10:07 PM

yup snoozefest of a game....

had to FF (cause I taped it) through most of the 3rd....

Good job for the Ducks doing so well, and for Giggy on the CS!
At least the NJ players showed some class and applauded for him.

BlueFaceBeast 06-09-2003 10:50 PM

Well think about it, Giguere wanted the Cup, not the Con Smythe. If you think the fans were booing Giguere, you're wrong, they were booing that Broduer didn't get it. Let's think of the records he set:

7 Shut outs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in one year.
3 Shut outs in the Stanley Cup FINALS

Sure Giguere held up the Ducks to get them as far as they did, and yeah he was an unknown player prior to the playoffs, then all of a sudden he became a household name. So you're going to argue that the Ducks had no supporting cast and that the Devils had a few all stars outside of Broduer. Well..hell, Marion Gaborik was still the playoff points leader despite the fact he did not even play in the finals, perhaps he should of gotten it instead. I think the reason why the NHL gave it to Giguere...to keep people intrested, and that's just simply bullshit. Broduer put up better stats and he clearly deserved it.

Also...Congrats to the Devils, and their fans. Likewise to the Ducks fans, and players. The one thing that makes hockey different then any other sport...it's not the cup, it's the handshakes that the teams do at center ice. So that the ENTIRE world knows, it's still about sportsmanship.

crackpot 06-10-2003 05:26 AM

Good points, BlueFace. But I would argue that having your team rely on the hated (but effective) neutral zone trap so often, well that's gonna play into your stats as a netminder, isn't it. The team as a whole thrives on low scoring games. Not just Brodeur.
Don't get me wrong though. I'm fully aware of his awesomeness.

No it's not going to help your stats really. I hate how people talk about the trap. It's a skill and it takes skill to beat it. If you look at it the trap is easy to beat. If you watched the enitre game you saw that the ducks had loads of chances in the second and third..they just couldn't connect. They swarmed the goal once they got into the zone. The only reason it helps the devils is because they are so damn good at it. The ducks kept trying to skate through instead of dump and chase or using the triangle. ]

I don't mind Giggy getting the Conn Smythe. I think he was great but I agree with BlueFace, I think Broduer should've had it. He's only the 3rd player in history to record a shutout in a game 7. I think if it was a finals award than he would've had it. I hate the devils I always have but I like Broduer. I want Kariya to get a cup but only when he goes to a new team :) Also, Friesen killed the ducks and guess what? He was a mighty duck until the trade deadline. I found that rather interesting.

Wonder how this will affect Broduer's home life. Supposedly he's been caught cheating on his wife with his sister in law. Before game 6 she called and said she was banging someone. No wonder he was so shaky. :p But he pulled it out in the end.

The_Dude 06-10-2003 07:06 AM

the ducks did play great, especially in the late 2nd period.

they got so many freakin great shots on the goal, i dont know how any of them got in.....the ball was always near the devils end when the ducks were hot

MikeyChalupa 06-10-2003 07:36 AM

As a Rangers fan, I hate the Devils. God, do I hate them.

But as a New Yorker, I hate the west coast even more. I'm glad the Devils won. Two flash-in-the-pan Anaheim teams in a year winning championships would be too much for me. LET'S GO NETS!

You know Steinbrenner owns the Devils AND the Nets, right?

Yes, this is a major factor in my hate for them. If Brodeur wasn't on the team I would dismiss them all together. I hate Steinbrenner, him and his damn yankees need to go to hell and join the devils

From what I read some of the adultery took place in Ottawa, I was really hoping for some Slapshot style goalie taunting in the Sens-Devils series. To quote the Hanson Brothers "You hit 'em in the brain, coach" "yeah, right in the brain!"
I think Jiggy deserved the CS, I don't have the stats handy, but Anaheim won a ridiculous number of OT games and he was the biggest reason that the Ducks made it to game 7 of the Cup finals, I was pretty disapointed in the fans for booing him too, I mean come on, Jersey got the better of the two trophies, be happy with that.

asmodaI 06-10-2003 12:42 PM

The Conn Smythe trophy could have gone either way, Brodeur probably had his best season this year, and was very under-rated most of it, and he was only the 3rd goalie to get a shut out in game 7. JSG really played amazingly in the 3 rounds of the playoffs, it didn't matter to me who won either way.

Great Stanley Cup finals this year, much better than the last two years. I'm glad to the East conf came out on top this year to show most of those damned sports writers who thought the eastern conf. was depleted and couldn't do it.

reconmike 06-10-2003 07:34 PM

Marty had 7 shutouts in the playoffs, a record. That makes him the MVP of the playoffs.
The fans booed because Marty was robbed.

But THE cup IS in Jersey!.

Nikilidstrom 06-10-2003 09:05 PM

the Brodeur divorce is old news there partner. It happened during the Ottawa series, and he wasnt even aware of her filing till after game game 6 of that series. It was kind of low class for ESPN to ask him on air after game 7 of that series about it, but thats when he said he hadn't heard about it at the time.

And as far as im concerned, when a goalie can put a lame team on his back from round 1 and drag them into game 7 of the finals like gigi did, he has got my vote for mvp. Shame on devil fans for booing, no matter what their motivation was. He was already feeling bad enough that they had lost the cup, and that he has to play behind that piss poor team again next year, no reason to add insult to injury.

Hopefully he doesnt suffer from Theodore disease. Playoff MVP 1 minute, then smoking a pole and having to fight for the starting position the next.

Nikilidstrom 06-10-2003 09:09 PM

By the way, apparently Brodeur banged more then his sister-n-law, the report said that he was accused of several adulterous affairs over a long period of time.

Marty the pimp.

Meridae'n 06-10-2003 10:06 PM

Has the NHL and the NBA crowns ever been in the same city?

I thought Giggy was a free agent after this season?? hmm I'll have to check on that one. He did carry the team but the real test of how good he is comes next year. If he can put up some good numbers then he's for real if not then he's a flash in the pan.

There should be a clause - if you cry in hockey they take away the Conn Smythe.

Oh yeah - one more thing. Broudour sets a new Goalie playoff record for 7 shutouts in the playoffs this year and he does not win the SConn Smythe. The other goalie he beat did. Makes lots of sense.

I would have Booed the loudest off anyone there.

I'm sorry man that's just poor sportsmanship. Like I stated before...Giguere did do a lot for his name, and to get the Ducks to the Finals. (I guess I forgot to mention the teams he beat...Dallas, Detroit...and oh yeah he shut out the highest scoring team 3 games in a row)

As far as playing the trap take skill...how about a coach. Minnesota (the highest scoring team in the playoffs) only needed three years to get it right...I'd say it's the coach...not the players.

So when do you booo then? When is it ok? Let's say tht they awarded the Conn Smythe to someone on a team that was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Would you boo then?

There is a time and a place for booing in sports. You never do it for someone on your own team (Almost - I may be able to come up with soemthing like he was a rapeist off the field). But you do do it to show your dissatisfaction with something that happens. I think that this was a good time since one of their own players got robbed. It would be different if the Devil Players were booing. The fans felt like they were defending Broudour when they booed.

Anyone else's thoughts on this? I would be interested to know.

MikeyChalupa 06-12-2003 10:05 AM

You never boo someone on your own team? Spoken like a Californian.

Ask someone in New York, Boston, or Philadelphia when it's okay to boo someone on your team. Pretty much whenever you want. As a fan, YOU paid to see them play and win. When they play and suck, it's your RIGHT, and in fact, it's your DUTY to boo. How else will the players and manager/owner know you as a fan are dissatisfied with the product on the field/ice? I cheer hard when my teams deliver me a championship (Yankees), but I boo them just as hard when they are obviously not playing up to their potential, or their salaries (Rangers). I'm still a fan. That's why I boo. If I didn't care about them, I wouldn't bother. Don't worry... cheering when they win and booing when they lose doesn't make you a "fairweather fan." Cheering when they win and IGNORING them when they lose does.

Now... that being said, the Devils fans were out of line, but they weren't booing Giguere. Awarding the trophy to Brodeur can be justified just as easily as giving it to Jiggy. You can't give it to both. Well, unless it's baseball, and you give the 2001 World Series MVP to Johnson AND Schilling. What a pile of crap that was. Grow some balls and pick ONE pitcher! But I digress... The fans felt their goalie should have gotten the award, but if you ask the Devils (or Stars, Red Wings, or... Wilds?) who had to shoot against Giguere if he deserved the award, they'd all tell you he was the best goalie in the playoffs. The fans weren't booing Jiggy, they were booing Bettman.

i think he is restricted...

Glory's Sun 06-12-2003 07:12 PM

Ok I'm a Red Sox fan and I have been for a LONG time. Yeah I boo my team from time to time..if someone screws up and costs us a game or worse then yeah I boo him. If he makes it up then I cheer him. Yankees fans are the worst. You could have the best season of your career but if you screw up in a big game you are booed till you get traded. I think you should boo your team when they mess up. If I screw up at work I get yelled at which is the same thing. Playing sports is their job so they will get yelled at when they screw up. Being a true fan is sticking with that team even when you can do nothing but boo, even if it's for years on end.

BlueFaceBeast 06-12-2003 10:54 PM

I'm an Avs fan, and with Roy retiring I think I'd of heard by now if Jiggy was ANY form of free agent.

dragon2fire 06-13-2003 01:21 AM

ah hem

last i checked the mvp thats the trophy jiggy got right

ok the mvp goes to the guy most vauble to his team

your gona tell me that he did not carry the ducks as far as they got

i dont know about that bluefacebeast

Nikilidstrom 06-13-2003 10:08 PM

I hear ya bluefacebeast, i hope to god they dont try to ride Aebischer thru the season. That could get ugly. Anywho, I just checked up on it, and Jiggy is a RFA, and is supposedly asking for a 3 year deal, for alot more than the 900,000 per he had in his last contract.

Mondak 06-14-2003 05:47 AM

They should change the Conn Smythe to MVL instead then. Giving up 6 goals in game 5. Nice work LOSER. Three shutouts in the Stanley Cup for Broudour. Nice

Anaheim's got the big bucks, what being owned by the Mouse and all, so more power to him. There are more than a few teams looking for a #1 goalie, Philly, Colorado, Vancouver to name 3. Jiggy'll have no problem getting as much cash as he wants. Brodeur was the lowest paid player in the NHL for awhile (something like 140,000) and everybody knows you won't get anywhere near the cup without a good goalie.

The mouse is selling anaheim.. I think the mouse and donald had an argument or something :p

Giggy will get what he wants pretty much..I'm just waiting to see if he can back this year up with another good year.

I went to the party in the swamp today, and what a party it was.
Tailgated from 11 am untill the parade started, try tailgating on a city street, we had lobster and steaks on a hibatchi.
Can you do that at a downtown parade?
Not to mention being able to drink beer, play some street hockey,
you havent a clue what you missed.

Oh and THE CUP was there, Jersey champs.

Mondak 06-14-2003 07:50 PM

Nice work Reconmike! That sounds super killer and like you had a great time. I think it is just fine to party where folks can best enjoy it.

kms1234 06-15-2003 02:22 PM

Even though the NJ fans had no class, I give a big thumbs up to the NJ players for applauding Giguere for winning the Conn Smythe. I have always felt that NHL players have more respect for their opposing competitors than any other pro sport.
