Is the DTrain available?

The Marlins' GM says absolutely not but the way they are running this team makes me wonder. Supposedly he's getting lots of calls from team, AZ and LA in particular. They will want a bounty for him, although both AZ and LA have the young talent that this deal would require, I doubt AZ would be willing to part with the pieces necessary to make the deal. What do you guys think?

Ummmmm, a one-two punch of Webb and Willis for "XX" years??? Yes, please.

I would be wary of getting Willis 'cause he's sucking, but the Dodgers are in a perfect position to acquire anyone they want right now. They have some awesome young talent playing every day because of injuries. However those injuries are healing and people are coming back.

So the question arises.. what do you do with everyone?

In my humble opinion, you keep the rookies Ethier and Martin... and you sell off the returning players Navarro, Ledee and Repko, also package in Aybar when Mueller comes back. I hate to say it... but Odalis Perez is trade bait too.

I wouldn't worry about Willis's stats so far. The high ERA is the result of three really bad starts and a pitcher's W-L record should never be looked at to decide if he's right for the team. Other than that, he's been the same guy he's always been. The risk is injury. Not many guys can log as many innings as he has at such a young age and make it back unscarred. Plus, his delivery is a pitching coach's nightmare, it puts a lot of stress on the arm and the elbow. He's kind of a TJ case waiting to happen.

Ultimately, AZ has the better prospects to deal so if they wanted him bad enough, they could get him. However, I really don't want the guys that would need to be included to go. Drew won't be traded for anyone. A deal with either Chris Young (CF, AAA) or Carlos Quentin (RF, AAA) as a centerpiece, a really good AA SP, and Miguel Montero (C, AA) could get it done but Young, Quentin, and Montero project to be at least above average to possibly all-star types. That's not worth it at all. But Webb and Willis could be like Schilling and Johnson as far as dominating 1-2 punches go.

A package including the likes of Navarro, Ledee, Repko, Aybar, Mueller wouldn't get it done. Not even close, I heard the Mets were interested and they asked for Wright. It would be more like Billingsly, Martin, and Broxton. That's a hell of a price to pay but Colleti just might be motivated enough to do it.

Perez is just about untradeable right now.

I think Perez is redeeming himself with his bullpen work. I don't know about his contract, but he's still quality.

Anyways, you're pretty much right on about Willis' injury risk. I don't know if his delivery can be worked on without completely deconstructing it. It's gonna blow!

Arizona can have him!

Perez is under contract through 2007. From what I saw, he gets 7.25 in 06 and 7.75 in 07. He also has a signing bonus of 4.5M to be paid and a team option for 08 at 9M with a 1.5M buyout. He's owed lots of money, that's why I called him untradeable. Of course, he's not as untradeable as Russ Ortiz...

You know, we can laugh at Florida right now but I'm starting to see the method in their suckiness. One of their execs made a comment about how it doesn't matter if you lose 95 games or 110 games, either way the team sucks. If you are rebuilding, go all the way, don't do some lame half asses rebuild where you try to make fans think you are trying by wasting money on aging vets. Find out who is for real in the farm system and who sucks.

They brought in a LOT of amazing talent in the trades they made. If instead of trading DTrain and (eventually) Cabrerra, they were to lock them up long term they could once again be a great team and make a run for another championship between 2008-2011. Meanwhile, the Royals, Pirates, DRays, etc. will still be fucking things up.

If I were a Marlins fan, I'd feel very abused none the less. Championship one year, bottom feeder the next. Twice over.

It's possible to field a good team that is entertaining and competes, while still rebuilding. It's also possible to shatter new talent before it has a chance to mature. I call it the Kwame Brown effect.

Peaks and valleys, yes, but I'd take the painfull rebuilding process if it means 3 championships over a 15 year span (assuming they can do it again before 2012).
