Gagne having surgery

Wow, he could really be done for good. The Dodgers aren't saying that of course but it really could happen:

Quote:
Dodgers closer Eric Gagne will have surgery Friday to remove a nerve from his pitching elbow—his second arm operation in less than a year—leaving his season in doubt.

Dodgers trainer Stan Johnston said on a conference call Thursday night there was no immediate timetable for the return of Gagne… Johnston said Gagne told him Wednesday he had been pitching in pain all spring. The problem was diagnosed during an examination by Gambardella after that—while the Dodgers were playing the Braves in the finale of a three-game series.
The timetable really depends on what nerve it is that they are removing. They are saying it is a sensory nerve and won't effect his ability to grip a ball but you never know. Good luck to him, I can't wait to see my team force a blown save on you ASAP.

The Dodgers or Giants were likely favorites to win the NL West. Less than a week into the season and key players on both teams are dropping like flies:

Nomar - muscle strain, 15 day dl
Gagne - at least two months
Drew - do you really expect him to play the whole season?
Lofton - strained calf, 15 day dl

Benitez - knee, 15 day dl
Lowrey - lower back, ?
Bonds - who knows what is next

I missed Jason Werth also. He's a couple months out.

You can also add Shawn Estes from the Padres to the DL pool. Klesko is out till July and Cameron will miss most of April.

i don't think they would remove a nerve that would effect how he would grip a baseball.. I would imagine he would play through the pain, and if not retire instead of having the nerve removed..

As of last night they are saying 6-8 weeks for Gags. I enjoy watching Gagne pitch, but it's bittersweet because I have Danys Baez on my fantasy team and now he'll be the closer for a while.

Game over for Game Over

He was the best thing us Dodger fans had as the team was mismanaged and the clubhouse underachieved due to injuries and lack of chemistry. Hopefully he recovers, but even if Gagne does bounce back from this, he's not going to be the same pitcher. I believe he even said in an interview that he is going to have to relearn how to pitch. Doesn't bode well for his future in baseball :\
