Really, I'd've posted this in nonsense but for the somewhat serious nature of the issue. I like the way it's done. It has fun with an issue that really isn't on many guys minds, bringing it to attention (forgive the pun), while still presenting some worthwhile information.

I'm curious... the question I have -- does it get the message across? Is it more effective than the pamphlet from the doctor reminding you to do this? Or is it just a sexy woman talking...

That's a great PSA. Really well done. Though I do think you bring up a good point, mal, and I'd like to hear what the guys think.

Like I said, I think there's more to it than just a Rachel Stevens talking. I think it does get the message across, if in a funny/sexy manner.

Is it more effective than the pamphlet from the doctor? Again, I say yes. Pamphlets, lectures and the like are clinical, quickly told, and even more quickly forgotten. This gives you something to think about, something to remember that's more than some half-assed piece of paper, and a visual that most would rather prefer to hold on to.

This is one of them. I really like the way they're open minded about the ad and the tactics used to get your attention. You'll NEVER see anything like this ad in the states. The FCC would be so far up your ass you would choke.

Which is why you should notice any changes and get those changes checked out by a doctor...

Women, from the time they start menstruating on, have been told to do monthly breast exams.. and it's not an opportunity to feel ourselves up, it's the opportunity to check whether anything has changed in the breast. Early detection is the best cure, and I can't quote the percentage but I know it's pretty high - but there's a good portion of cancer that is caught early in women thru those simple self exams.

Men, i dont think, are educated in the same way.... and I wonder how many of you guys actually pay attention to your testicular area unless some woman is fondling them... Self exams can save your life...

The reason why I ask if the message gets delivered, there seems to be more cringing over her biting of the plum, then actually doing a self exam.

I give them a feel every time I shower, thoroughly enough that I would notice anything unusual.

Yeah Mal, it's more effective than a pamphlet. Sexy women talking about stuff, makes it seem more important. I have a theory that if it weren't for the insistance of sexy women, we wouldn't have made showering into a routine (and some men still haven't. ick).

Nope not too much info - but the point of the PSA (I think) is that you shouldn't wait for the doctor to manhandle your nuts.... You should be checking yourself on a regular basis...

If you check them regularly, you are going to be better able to know what has changed and point out the changes when and if the time comes that you need to see a doctor...

Glad the message is getting out to you guys... Saves me the trouble of making housecalls :)

I think that definitely gets the message across better than some pamphlet. I probably would have followed her instructions from the get go if I had been alone in front of my computer. Just out of curiosity did anybody stick their hand down their "trousers" when she said to?

It is better to get the message this way. It makes it something that can be talked about. The only problem is that if you view this at the office you are likely not going to be putting your hands down your pants right away. Then it is a matter of remembering to do it later. Not easy.

On a much less sexy note Tom Green did a good job for publicity on this a while back.

I the story goes that Tom Green was diagnosed with testicular cancer and he decided to do a lot of tongue-in-cheek stuff on it in order to get people to be aware of it. Some kid who had watched the show did a self exam and found somthing out of the ordinary. The kid saw a doctor and and they were able to detect the cancer early and do something about it. Tom Green had the kid on the show at a later date.

It was interesting.
