Not on period, but bleeding.

Hey everyone,

My fiancee' is on Diane 35 (birth control) and after intercourse yesterday, I had what looked like period blood on me. It was red (like blood) with little pieces of skin it looked like...looked exactly like period blood.

Now, I asked her, and she said thats not normal, because she is nowhere near her time for a period. She told me, she skipped her period the last 2 months purposely (I also heard her doc say it was fine), and she said she should not have gotten it for another 2.5 weeks.

Then I thought maybe we had rougher than normal sex, but thats not it, because there was no pain, and it was not rough at all....and if i did cut her, it would just bleed, and it would not resemble period blood.

I am her only partner, and she is my only, so STD's are out.

Anyone have an idea ?

I'm guessing that it's breakthrough bleeding or spotting, from holding off for that long. The body needs to bleed, even if the hormones aren't on a natural cycle.

I'll be using the ring continuously this summer, as I'll be in Africa and don't want to deal with blood and keeping things clean with questionable water... and my doc told me to not freak out if I noticed some spotting. If that happened, she told me to take a week off from BC to let my body bleed naturally, then go back on it. I'm hoping to avoid it, though!

my first month on the nuva ring and i had the same thing happen..it was like after i got aroused it looked like i had my period. lil skin bits and all. my gyno assured me it was just a hormonal reaction and that i had no reason to worry.

If it's little pieces of skin, I'd be pretty worried... But I think what you are referring to is simply clotted blood.

But as it is, I think it's fairly normal... the body isn't used to skipping periods and this is it's waay of complaining.

KiwiKiwi, yes, those are blood clots from your uterus because it is shedding it's lining. I think you have misunderstood that the lining in your uterus is blood, not skin. So it is infact clotted blood.

Yup, normal hormonal reaction, especially since she's not had a period for two months. Any time a woman's uterus has something "wierd" going on (ie- no period for a while due to BC, IUD, etc) it'll start doing strange things like that. No worries!

Ok, I stand (somewhat) corrected. Although it closely resembles blood, menstrual fluid actually comprises a mixture of tissues and secretions from inside the uterus including water and mucus from the uterine glands, blood from capillaries feeding the endometrium, and the Functionalis layer of cells of the endometrium itself.

But no "skin".

I should have left this thread to the professionals, but no, I had to go and open my big mouth... Oh well, at least I learned something new today.
