What truly does a man get out of a marriage?
 

Is there any real benefits for a man to get hitched? Other than a tax break and to call the significant other "wife"? Women get to tie a man down, get to feel all safe and protected, and try like hell to gain "contol" the relationship while in the same breath, criticizing their men at various hen parties.

Companionship. Marriage is a partnership, not what you are describing. Mysuggestion is that you should probably not get married anytime soon.

Partnership? When why not remain partners (companions) for life and lose the whole "marriage" senario. The whole Goldi Hahn and Kurt Russell thing. Why does your girlfriend's girl friends start out phone conversations with "did you get a ring yet?" Women are so programmed by early age that a marriage is the ultimate goal in life. Can we say "Barbie?"

second marriage: children (secure environment to pass on genetic material)
third marriage: companion ship

take note you can have all 3 mariages with the same woman and with out getting divorces in btween, and have all 3 going on at the same time.

What truly does a WOMAN get out of marriage? Dude, get over your life. If your marriage isn't good (I'm just assuming you're bitter about your own marriage), then get counseling and stop whining about how women are so terrible.

And what about gay marriage? Well, that just throws his whole carefully thought out women-are-the-spawn-of-satan-and-live-to-destroy-the-lives-of-their-husbands theory out the window, doesn't it?

And WTF is a hen party!!?? I'm guessing it's a girls-only outing where we apparently complain about the horrid, evil men in our lives, which we can't quite seem to control no matter how hard we try (which apparently we do), while clucking and pecking seeds off the ground. No?

I dont think he ment actuall hens... I am 19 at the moment and have walked in on some of those "hen parties". If I correct it is when mothers (women in there 40's-50's would be a better example) just sit and have tea and talk about there kids and family... but by no means is this a bad thing. If they were completely serious about everything and did nothing but complain then they wouldnt even get married in the first place.

And to me marrage is something special with two people that says that they want to be with eachother for all life, marriage in itself is just a word to describe two people who want to be together on a higher level than just boyfriend girlfriend. Marriage would be more than just sex, its companionship (as stated above). And your list of things that make marriage worthwhile is the worst list I have ever read, you didnt mention a single emotional aspect; and that, when it all comes down to it, is pretty much what marriage is all about. (I am of course not married at this tender age, I am merely guessing and I hope I am somewhat close and didn't just make an ass of myself :))

Hen parties may exist, but they would be no more common than Rooster parties where men have a bit of a whinge about their marriage.
It seems that us humans are never truly happy and like to whinge a bit here and there. Big deal I say :)

Marriage is great. I am married and I feel a stronger commitment and connection with my wife since we got married. I think agreeing to be with someone for the rest of your life is a very special thing to do, and takes a lot more balls to do than to just move in with someone.

Like most things in life, you get out of it what you put into it.

I am kinda seeing where this guy is coming from though, although he is a exaggerating a fair bit.
