What is your smell good weapon of choice?

So what do you use to get attention from that special someone(or someones...) and how do you use it?

Day to day...
Bathe with tropical zest
Axe Tsunami body spray.

Date night or out on the town...
Bathe with the girly oil of Oly soap...(yeah it's fruity but it smells good makes your skin softer and girls like the smell of it)
no body spray but a few strategic placements of Tommy Freedom.

Tactics for useage...
Day to day...a quick burst of body spray on my t-shirt(I usually wear a white tee under a buttondown or polo) and that's it. Just enough of a scent so that anybody within "personal distance" like a foot or two wil get enough of a wiff to catch the pleasentness of the body spray but without it being overpowering. I found that if you spray it on the cotton t-shirt it will hold the scent longer throughout the day and it won't evaporate like you will have it on the outside shirt and it won't mingle with body scent if you happen to get hot during the day. Sweat and body spray = nasty.

Date night or out on the town...
A small burst on either side of the neck a strategic burst on the mid section(again on the clothes as the scent will transfer better from clothes to other places than if it's on the skin...reason for this given in a moment). Basically any place at the height that the nose of a female might cross. So the neck is for if any nuzzling goes on...the chest is for that close dance or hug she'll catch a perfect whiff of your scent. Again it's not enough for it to make anybody sick from smelling you but in places where it'll do the most good.

Now the trick I picked up from my friend...if you will be out someplace where it might be cold...bring a jacket..but spray your jacket with a couple of bursts of your cologne. So that way if she says she's cold you can loan her your coat..."forget" it and that night if she likes you she will have a reminder of you that hits most of the major senses. Sight, feel, and smell.
This trick works like a charm.

Phant84 10-12-2004 12:31 PM

with out going into as much detail,
day to day,
bathe with zest
and a scent called Cold.

night out,
bath and body soap
and Gio.

you cant fucking beat Gio. its smells fucking great!!!

Redlemon 10-12-2004 12:41 PM

Odors are weapons. Please disarm. My nose can't take it when you decide to marinate yourself.

skier 10-12-2004 12:47 PM

lol I can't take strong perfume, but if a girl smells good when you get close with her it's great.

Personally I try to smell "fresh" like when you do when you get out of the shower. Not very much smell but it's there.

Averett 10-12-2004 12:48 PM

Too much can be a bad thing :)

Sounds like Lockjaw has a good method, but depending on the cologne, it might be too much.

Personally, I like it when I get just a faint smell of a guy. That clean, shower smell. As far as cologne, I've discovered that I really, really love Swiss Army.

Pragma 10-12-2004 12:51 PM

Bathe with Irish Spring soap & Pert Plus shampoo

A small spray of Axe Kilo, and I'm ready to go - doesn't matter where. I don't like smelling all fancy - plus that stuff gets expensive ;)

st33lr4t 10-12-2004 01:02 PM

i just use herbal essence body wash....girls seem to think im domesticated when they smell this on me. sure i take alot of heat from my buds but the bottom line is all that matters.

Squishor 10-12-2004 01:13 PM

I can't stand any smells on a guy and those wearing cologne, etc., are immediately on my "no" list.

Not trying to be a jerk, it's just that I feel so strongly about this that I wanted to put my point of view out there. :)

10-12-2004 02:42 PM

The few occasions I wear perfume, it's Adidas. Its not flowery and gross like 99% of perfumes out there.

As for smells on guys... I ADORE gravity cologne

Lockjaw 10-12-2004 03:11 PM

I don't bathe in it and I've done a lot of experimenting on how to wear it so it's subtle and not overpowering. I also have a very low tolerance for fragrances(if I get within 10 feet of a perfume counter I get dizzy) but I do like to smell nice and frankly soap and fresh bathed wears off a lot quicker than a little subtle spritz. Most people can't tell I'm wearing anything until they get close to me and frankly that's when it matters the most. :D

Seandq 10-12-2004 03:12 PM

I use Axe Apollo.

radioguy 10-12-2004 03:42 PM

old spice high endurance body wash - that shit is good smelling. i get many compliments on that.

when i go out, i spash on happy - by clinique

NeoRete 10-12-2004 03:58 PM

I use a fresh-smelling generic bodywash, gillette cool wave aftershave under the neck, and Bath & Body Works men's cool spring face conditioner on my shaved head. I don't bathe in any of them, they can only be smelled in my personal space, and is meant for the gf.

MageB420666 10-12-2004 04:01 PM

Ummmm, I usually don't worry about how I smell, so I usually just smell like shampoo or Axe Pheonix (my girlfriend likes it).

10-12-2004 04:12 PM

I always wear fragrance oils-
usually Egypian Musk (i't really not musky, it's soft- I love it)
or Coconut, Pineapple, Cinnamon, Pina Colada, or Lick Me All Over (whatever mood I'm in)

Irishsean 10-12-2004 04:16 PM

Cucumber/Melon Bodywash, Apricot Shampoo, followed by a light dose of Axe. Either Tsunamai or Phoenix depending on how I feel.

trevlya006 10-12-2004 06:31 PM

i use dial and GOJO soaps haha.. but
day to day
irish spring
and axe kilo

and going out
irish spring
and aqua di'gio

fallenangel 10-12-2004 06:47 PM

I use dove soap, and herbal essence shampoo mixed with some european brand i forget the name of. Jergens moisture lotion, it's not really scented, but there's that soft lotion smell that's great mixed with above.

If i'm going to work, i'll dab on some 'Shi' by alfred sung, normally on my wrists, and behind my earlobes.

If i'm going out I'll wear Exotic from body shop, it's not really heavy but the smell makes me feel euphoric. Sometimes i'll mix it with a bit of original vanilla from body shop.

If I'm going clubbing, i'll wear Connexion by Lancome. Delish, makes a statement, but not an 'in your face i'm going to drown you in my smelll' kind of statement.

EmilyMu154 10-12-2004 08:14 PM

my smell

Victoria's Secret
Divine

all the time
its WONDERFUL

Melka 10-12-2004 08:45 PM

all i ever put on is lotion, tj maxx always has the best body butters in different scents that feel really nice

i think any smell i have probably comes from the massive amounts of pomade i put in my hair every morning trying to maintain some semblance of control

Suave 10-12-2004 09:07 PM

I wash myself, as many of you have admitted. I also wear Axe Essence (yeah, those commercials got me). I just checked my soap, and it's Oil of Olay. :D For hair: Suave (smells AMAZING).

imkeen 10-12-2004 09:33 PM

I was just going to comment on the fact that it seems all the guys have taken to Axe... Is it that great, or is it good marketing?

Edited because I forgot to add my opinion...

My wife doesn't like the smells as much, but I used to get a rise out of previous g/f's from old school favorites like Eternity and Drakkar. And, at the risk of showing my age, my HS g/f wore Exclamation ... and grrrrrrrrr... it was GOOD... :-)

ibis 10-12-2004 09:46 PM

On most days I'll wear just a tiny bit of Axe Essence. I'm really carefull not to use too much, I've enlisted help from several female friends as to get the technique and amount perfect.

On days I feel attractive I'll spray on a little Aqua Di Gio.

It's a little of both. I really like it, it smells decent and is cheap. I think that most people that don't like it have had a bad eperience with someone who has had too much on.

LaughinMon 10-12-2004 09:48 PM

oooh i use aveeno body wash. oh so nice. smells like oatmeal/vanilla goodness.
shampoo and conditioner is suave juicy green apple because i love the smell of green apples.
perfumes include: aqua de gio, clinique happy, and diesel
the armani one is "my smell" and the other ones are occasional. i like happy for summer/spring and diesel for fall/winter.
i used to like axe body spray until it got overly popular and i could smell it on like every dude i'd pass on the street.
there are these crazy fancy ones made on some ancient franciscan island in europe that have been made for hundreds of years naturally that ive wanted to get my hands on for a long time. i have yet to smell them but from their story and description, they sound like they would be divine. but money and availability are both short

xxSquirtxx 10-12-2004 09:55 PM

I normally don't wear perfume, but when I want to smell good, it's been Chloe for 24 years.

The marketing is most definitely absolutely amazing. It wasn't like "wow it'll do that", so much as "wow those commercials are entertaining, I now want to try that stuff". The marketing gets ya for the first try, and then the fact that it smells nice and is affordable keeps ya coming back for more.

SparklingDot 10-12-2004 10:25 PM

For me, its Moonlight Path body spray for every day wear. That's it, a few strategically placed spritzes on the clothes (and hair). All the guys love it, and no one else I know wears it. It smells like baby powder and a little bit extra. The guys say "its how a girl should smell."

On a guy, I love Old Spice or Intrigue. But I heard that Intrigue was discontinued...sadness.

thebiz 10-12-2004 10:51 PM

Soap. And shampoo.

I didn't realize many folks were using Axe until I started asking around.

I didn't really pay attention to the tv or magazine ads all that much but like 6 months ago I was doing my shopping and I was getting my soaps and what not. Walked past this display of Axe and was like hmmm...dude Body spray huh? Sniffed a few of them...sniffed the Tsunami and was like...damn that smells good...and have been buying it ever since. And have been getting compliments ever since...it's really what guys needed. You might want to smell good but putting on a bunch of cologne isn't an option because it's too strong. A lil spritz and it's good to go. Go check the Axe out man and just use a little...your wife probably won't complain.

Elitegibson 10-13-2004 08:56 AM

Shower, shave, aftershave, deoderant/anti-perspirant, brush teeth. Doesn't matter if I'm just going over to my girl's house or having dinner with the president. Any more is too much IMO.

Shizukana 10-13-2004 07:10 PM

-Generic bodywash (gonna try that Old Spice body wash, we'll see how good it is and whether the smell is overpowering... and whether it dries out my skin)
-Tea Tree shampoo (works much much better than typical dandruff shampoos and smells minty eucalyptus fresh to boot!)
-Axe Tsunami deodorant (others are too strong IMO... Tsunami has a nice smooth scent)
-Typically a spray of Drakkar Noir (yeah yeah, quintessential cheesy cologne, but I've loved it for years and other stuff is typically too sweet-smelling for me.) A single spray is more than enough for a subtle scent that is only noticeable within the "personal space radius..."

I don't spray all the time, typically once a day in the morning. Sometimes I'll change it up and spray some Cool Water or Givenchy Pi.

The jacket or sweatshirt/hoodie trick is very familiar to me... I used to let my close female friend wear my hoodie or jacket at football games in high school, she loved how it smelled like me. A spray or two is WAY PLENTY... if a girl is wearing an article of your clothing they will have no choice but to smell your scent, as women seem to have much more acute senses of smell when it comes to male scents.

tom12 10-13-2004 07:54 PM

one word, AXE

saigon1965 10-13-2004 08:48 PM

you guys are too metrosexual for me, LOL. I am actually allergic to alot of the smell of perfumes and cologne so I go with a good shower and sans everything else.

Willravel 10-13-2004 08:55 PM

Dove body soap, some shampoo my wife bought for me from france with dashes over half the letters (I see irony in getting good smelling stuff from the same counrty that gave us Peppe le Pew), Neutrogena face wash, Neutrogena aftershave, SpeedStick, and Safari by Ralph Lauren (very very little, just so people can barely smell it if their nose is on my shirt).
I think the best thing is a persons smell-good arsonal would be good toothpaste. Nothing in the world is worse than bad breath.

That was a pimp move in H.S., it worked very well.

I use plain 'ol soap, pantene shampoo, and if I use cologne (very rarely) its Calvin Klein Obsession or Eternity.

Trust me I ain't metrosexual(although I do like to cook). No dude with as much perpetual stubble and dirty fingernails like I have could ever be considered metro. I just like to tilt the playing field to my advantage...so to speak. :)

Rlyss 10-14-2004 05:55 AM

I think most of my efforts are in vain, since I have a cigarette in the morning sometimes, but even so, I...

- soap (Lux or something)
- Herbal Essences shampoo (smells so good)
- SpeedStick
- A tiny spray of Acqua di Gio if it's a special occasion

I bought the Acqua di Gio because of the recommendations I've seen from this board and other places around the net. Everyone swears by it, and I've joined the crowd. It smells fantastic. Most days it just sits idle, but if it's a special occasion then I'll use it and usually ge complimented.

ShaniFaye 10-14-2004 06:06 AM

well besides deoderant...I wear one thing and one thing only

Heather oil (heather is a scottish plant) I get it from a local herbalist

and it never fails...everywhere I go people comment on how good it smells and like it because its different

Dave (and other men have too) swears it makes him horny like Realm does when he wears it for me, although it contains no pheremones lol

Dane Bramage 10-14-2004 06:26 AM

My routine is always the same, and the ladies seem to love it. I always get complements on how I smell.

Burt Bee's all the way...

Bay Rum Soap
Herbal Deodorant
Bay Rum Cologne
Bay Rum Aftershave Balm

The combination gives off a warm earthy, spicy scent that is quite different from other products out there. I really don't like most other colognes and perfumes. They always seem to be too checmically smelling to me.

If you have never tried the Burt Bee's line of products, then I highly recommend them. 100% Natural. All recyclable packaging.

Dawson70 10-15-2004 11:16 PM

natural pheromones. If a girl wanted to get my attention, put a little dab of "yourself" on your neck. It drives me bonkers!

evilbeefchan 10-16-2004 01:57 AM

Right Guard Xtreme stick (the one with the green stripe). My gf literally sticks her nose in my armpit and takes big, heavy whiffs.

Showering with a body sponge and Target brand "Cucumber Melon" shower gel.

Sauve for men hair gel, with "manly" scent. Not too overpowering, pretty subtle.

Aladdin Sane 10-16-2004 05:23 AM

Mostly I feel assaulted by the strong parfumes many people seem to pour on their body. If I catch a whif I literally become dizzy and get an instant headache.
On the other hand there are a few very light scents (I don't know the names) that have the faint smell of fresh sweet flowers and clean vagina, which give me an instant erection.

I shower, shave, dab on deoderant, and I'm ready to go.

Gio is something.

I'm a

Irish spring
Herbel Essence
Gio guy

Also the most important of all things. I use Anti static dryer stuff with my cloths, and I wash them myself. Most girls I've been with and around say that's one of the best things for a guy to do, have clean cloths that smells fresh.

Haha, love that. Can't say i havent' tried to pull that one in the past. Was a abercrombie button up shirt that she got make-up on... Was wearing stetson cologne...

You guys are missing out if you haven't tried wearing Aqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani. I practically get attacked by girls when I wear it. I found a new one too that just came out and the women love---Reaction by Kenneth Cole. You can't go wrong with both of those...and you can thank me later.

castindark 10-19-2004 03:16 PM

My routine always used to be a body spray and occasional cologne but my girlfriend has got me into wearing cologne a bit more.
The ones that have always worked for me are Eternity and Issey Miyake!!!!!
Now i have got some Hugo Boss and she loves it

daswig 10-19-2004 06:13 PM

Y'all are gonna laugh, but mine are Cosmoline and Kerosene. No kidding. They both drive my wife crazy. (for those not familiar with cosmoline, it's a very heavy grease used to protect weapons from rust and the elements.)

Thats same with my gf, Im wondering what gio is made of if ppl can pick it out in crowded(sp??) rooms. She always goes to me "I smell gio" here.
If they ever stop production of it, I know my GF is going to buy a crate of the stuff.

stonegrody 10-20-2004 04:05 PM

Eternity - CK
Romance - Ralph Lauren

I think I'm gonna have to pick up some of this Gio stuff...

Carno 10-20-2004 04:41 PM

I use whatever soap and shampoo is in my bathroom; usually Dove soap.

For cologne I have "Very Sexy for Men" from Victoria's Secret, and occassionally I wear Adidas "Moves".

Locs 10-21-2004 09:59 AM

Another TIP that an ex-g/f taught me.

When ironing a shirt, spray colonge on a few stratigic places (shoulders, collar, etc), THEN spray a LIGHT, uncented starch, and iron.

For some reason it locks in the scent and lasts a LONG time.

PS: Careful with white shirts, and cologne that is a darker than normal color.

froseph 10-21-2004 10:07 AM

I've started using romance, but i'm always on the lookout for different stuff because i'm a new to the world of wearing scents :)

denim 10-21-2004 10:09 AM

For smells, I'm very simple. I use a tea tree-based shampoo and VERY rarely, a former product from Bath and Body which smells citrisy. Last I looked, B&B's "mens" section had shrunk too much to go in and look at. :(

justjt 10-21-2004 11:19 AM

Different soaps and colognes smell different on me...but this combo has been the crowd favorite.

Softsoap-"Vanilla Brown Sugar" Bodywash
"Hazelnut" body lotion from [Bath and Body Works]
"Fahrenheit" cologne made by [Christian Dior]
(shaved head so shampoo not needed)

The soap and the lotion may sound a little girly for a guy but the ladies seem to love it on me...so I go with what works!

i'm using high endurance "fresh"..

does that count :o

onesandzeroes 10-25-2004 03:35 PM

For those using Axe Deoderant, or Deoderant in general, do you find that Deoderant that is not anti-perspirant doesnt' really last long?

that's what I've been finding, I just started using axe after I lost my deoderant/anti-perspirant on a trip.

Slarty Bartfast 10-25-2004 06:01 PM

When I get razor burn I use this stuff called "afta" in a blue bottle, you can get it at any drugstore or grocery store, probably next to the 'brut'! I've had more women comment on how great it smells, and it's only like a buck fifty a bottle. No, I don't use it all the time. Just funny, that the cheap crap works so well. Later.

CandleInTheDark 10-25-2004 06:45 PM

Everyday:
Old Spice bodywash
Anti-perspirant

Night Out:
Axe or Roots or Adidas Moves

Even on nights out I rarely throw on cologne.

Dude I'd never even think of going without an anti-perspirant. I honestly don't see how people just use deoderant. You need something to stop the sweating or else the deoderant is going to fight a losing battle real quick.

Palamidian 10-25-2004 07:47 PM

It's all about Herbal Essenses shampoo and conditioner, it smells so great, and I don't really care thats it's not meant for guys. Add a little bit of old spice body wash on top of that your smelling absolutely great coming out of the shower. My laundry detergent also smells great, so i usually only add a hint of axe or cologne to my shirt. That usually leaves me smelling pretty squecky clean for the ladies.

but ppl do right? oh well. I wanted to stop using anti-perspirant cause the aluminum in there is bad for you I hear.

so do you just use deoderant spray as a "cologne" to go along w/ the antiperspirant, or do you, lockjaw, just use antiperspirant and no deoderant

OK...this is probably very old school but do any women still wear Love's Baby Soft?

I thought that stuff was some of the sexiest stuff made..

I do I do I do!!!! its something I'll put on after my shower at nite.....it was the first "perfume" I was allowed to have as a kid...I've always got a bottle somewhere ...although its not something I wear all the time....(as mentioned above that would be Heather) but there is just something about putting it on after a shower that I love

They do it but at least around these parts that just ASKING to smell like 10 times worn unwashed gym sock if you do. I could only see you getting away with that and not smelling badly if you lived some place where the average temp was 60 degrees at the hottest.

I use the axe as a cologne yes I guess you could say. I use Degree anti-perspirant for the pits. I can go work out for an hour with that stuff on and my pits still don't stink afterwards. The Axe is purely for the good smell not for preventing or covering funk. Deoderant is doing nothing more than covering a smell with another smell and if you happen to get stinky wearing the stuff you will smell twice as bad.
Soap,anti-persperant, THEN deoderant or cologne.
Had a guy I worked with from Europe...he would do the soap and deoderant and he'd was fine...until summer hit and he smelled so bad people wouldn't sit on the same side of the conference room with him until he wisened up and started wearing anti-persperant.

yeah, the aluminum causes alzheimers, kiddies. so does cooking with aluminum pans.

I used to sweat like mad, and thought that anti perspirant was a necessity. Then I lived in Houston, where EVERYBODY sweats, so I started using deodorant, and just not worrying about it so darn much. Less worry, less sweat, now I rarely sweat at all. But I live in Michigan, but it still gets hot here, lemmetellya. I suggest to all out there to try it for a while, and see if you can't kick the Anti P habit.

Anti P causes alzheimers, I dont really care. What is there left in this world that is good for your body anyways?

Dizzet 11-02-2004 04:45 AM

I use Jungel Man and Davidoff Cool water

I wear Mambo. Very underrated fragrance. Every time I wear it girls ask what it is I'm wearing.

It's not very expensive either. Another cheap but good one is Curve. For a slightly higher cost I like Cool Water and another favorite of mine that I like equally as much as Mambo and Cool Water is Perry Elis Reserve. If you've never smelled it before...check it out. That shit is damn good.

It's weird... I have extremely strong scent connection memory. I dated a guy once, gods, we were in high school. Gary smelled absolutely incredible. A very crisp, clean scent, very much a part of who he was. He always insisted he didn't wear cologne, and honestly, the way his scent never changed confirmed that, and he had no clue what it was that made him smell so wonderful to me. We eventually broke up, and I haven't seen him in years (he lives in Germany).

I have the fondest memories of all of the men I've dated who've had a "signature" scent, and 90% of those didn't wear cologne. A whiff of something similar will bring me to a standstill, nose in the air, searching for whomever is possessed of the memory evoking scent.

Recently, while helping a friend out, I dashed to the airport to pick up her brothers when they arrived for her wedding. Having met them both before, I got hugs from both... and I nearly burst into tears at the airport. One of the boys smelled almost exactly like Gary. Poor Graham, he had no clue, lol.... and he was a great sport. He came to me later and gave me a list of "scented" items he wore, one of which was a deodorant that I distinctly remember Gary wearing, one of the few on the market which haven't changed in a million years, lol. His chemical makeup, plus that particular deodorant combined to make him wake up those memory receptors in my brain, for which I am eternally grateful.

Anyway.... I like a man who smells like... himself. *shrugs*
