Week long periods?

My GF has been on the rag for literally over a week. Is this normal, is there anything wrong with her? She said it's nothing birth control can't fix and is gunna visit the planned parenthood

it can be anywhere from a day (boy was i jealous of her!) to over a week (sucks to be her). and yes, it can be regulated with birth control pills fairly easily. mine are 4 days max on my pill... every ten weeks.

Yup, periods are strange things- now that I've been off of hormonal birth control, mine usually last longer and sometimes fluctuate as to how long they last. How old is your GF? Younger girls (younger than about oh... 20 or so) usually have strange period cycles, as their bodies are still going through puberty (even at 19!!) and such.

Good for her for going to PP. Get her to go to a gyno too, doubly so if she's over 18 or if she's sexually active.

Yup - normal. And it can change drastically from one month to the next. At one time several years after I'd begun having a period but while I was still in my teens I lost my period for about 4 months. I hadn't ever had sex it was just because of a lot of stress in my family and a time during which I lost 20 lbs, even though I was already only 5'5" and 120 lbs.

While I was on the pill I was able to regulate it such that (with my Dr's supervision) I had a period only once every 90 days for only a week at a time. Now since I just recently (in November) have gone off the pill I have not had one shorter than a week and it's been closer to almost 2 weeks several times.

A woman's body changes OFTEN. Why do you think we get such mood swings?? :P Glad she's gonna see somebody to give her 'womanly' advice.

I've gone from the 1 day (soooo not fun ) to usually a max of 3 days ... but if her body is taking a beating, it sometimes is a signal that she needs so slow down and recoup.

My wife's used to vary between 2 days and 8 days. She got on the pill, took it regularly, and it became completely regulated. She starts on Wednesday daytime and is done and good by Sunday late/Monday early.

I don't think a week's worth while not on the pill isn't terribly weird, but if her plan is to go on the pill and help it be regulated, I think it'll work.

Mine is a week and I'm on the Nuva-Ring--it was a week even when I was on the pill, and it's always been a week.

So yeah, normal.

It can be one day? Damn, what have I been missing..

I'm 20 and mine have been completely regular for years. 5 days every time. I plan them on the calender and they're accurate pretty much to the day, and I don't take BC.

Yep, normal up to about 10 days or so. If it's regularly longer than that, I'd check in with a gyno.

No stress, just a little mess!

Darkangel - one day is not neccessarily better - when I had one day, I still was losing the same amount of blood as I would have over the course of three days - that compounded with EXTREMELY intense cramps made that THE MOST MISERABLE period I've ever had - and my cramps are pretty strong to begin with just over three days.

I'd rather take the intensity out of that pain and spread it out a little - makes it MUCH more bearable.
