Hi everyone.

I did a lot of things for the first time in my life tonight.

I accepted an ex-girlfriend back after spending to months alone, apart from friends, and realizing I can be a much better person. But that was a few days ago.

Tonight, I found m Sony Camcorder and looked up on the net how I could use it as a webcam. Then my recently ex-girlfriend/recently current girlfriend came online. Using webcams like this is certainly a controlled situation. There is an exoticism to this that really highlights the hyperreal world we're in now. I understand that it is easy to get very excited about this kind of situation, we seem hardwired for this propensity to display ourselves and to be objects of consumption. You seem very excited about this, but I warn you to be cautious because this simulated atmosphere does not necessarily directly transfer into a workable reality. If it is used as a tool in conjunction with face-to-face interactions, with respect, dignity, and without emphasizing differences in power or objectification then I can see some positive possibilities.

I'm afraid that often in these situations that humanity gets lost, that power has a central role in the excitement, and both the surveyor and the surveyed are objectified.

Let us know how this works out, how it enhances other parts of your relationship, and if later on you still feel that it was a good idea to get back together with your ex-girlfriend.

Oh it certainly wasn't a substitute for an intimate experience, and we both knew that we didn't use the webcam because we aren't as comfortable in person.

I found my camcorder last night and in one of those 'I've got a project and I'm determined!' I decided that there <i>must</i> be a way to get it working as a makeshift webcam.

And I was certainly in control. I wasn't being used, we were just having a bit of fun. We're both studying for mid-year exams and we were both online at the same and relieved a bit of stress through the webcam ;) I would have gone over to her house to do it, but I'd had a glass of wine at dinner so I didn't want to drive.

It's not a substitute for our real intimacy, and we most likely won't be doing it again anytime soon. It was just a bit of fun. And I do trust her fully, I know there is absolutely zero chance of any of that footage ending up spread around the Internet.
