Important question about herpes!!!

I have a hot tub (jacuzzi) recently installed at my home. Monday I have a girl coming over (a friend) who I know has herpes.

The question is "if we get in the jacuzzi together, am I at risk?"

any real answers to this or links to information would be helpful. Thanks

I did a bit of googling and the basic idea is "how well do you trust your hot tub maintaince" ? If you properly maintain your tub at the right temp with the right minerals and chlorine then transmission is very, very unlikely (unless you decide to get naughty in the tub). If you have a poorly maintained hot tub than transmission is very possible.

It is all an issue of how much you trust your maintaince.

It totally depends how "cozy" things get in the tub. Genital to genital contact is high risk for transmission of herpes. Sitting 6 feet apart on your own side of the tub may be boring, but it is very low risk.

Your risk no matter what you do is also highly dependent on whether she has an active outbreak, or has one coming on (which you can't always tell).

unless she had an active outbreak and there was contact between a lesion and your skin, the chances are pretty much 0.0%. don't stress

If I was you I'd play it safe and pretend the hot tub was broken!

Although the chances of contracting herpes via hot tub are extremely slim, you have to ask yourself, "what are the potential gains compared to the potential consequences?" Unless this is the hottest person on the planet and you know that you're not going to get laid in the next five years, I would say, "Why risk it?"

i guess the question is are you just gonna sit there in it,?

you didn't think that just because you were in the 'hot tub' and you fooled around with her you would be safe , did you?

You better wear a full rubber suit in the tub.

alot of you need to go back to sex ed. I have a couple frends that made some stupid mistakes in the past and caught herpes but there's no reason to treat them like a plague. And as stated before, without an active breakout your chances are next to nothing, especially in a hot tub.

Thanks for the replies! No sexual contact will occur I can assure you of that... but a hot tub seemed like a grey area for transmission. And herpes, no matter how common or tolerated it may be, is something I would just as soon not get by accident! So... my spa is well maintained and we'll just be chillin on opposite sides. Seems like the risk at that level is almost non-exhistant. I can live with that. Thanks again.
