Man, i was thinking the other nite while surfing on here.
How many people on here are circumsized? I myself am not, but I got to thinking, nowadays there are no medical reasons to have guy circumsized , but the thought that part of your dick was cut off as a baby ( you had no say in the process) and was thrown into a biohazard bag and incinerated. <cringes> Maybe I think too much, but doesn't that mildly disturb you to think you had a surgery without consent that wasn't nessary?

I'm cut. I have never seen my penis any other way so it doesn't bother me. Lots of cultures have done things to shape infants at one time or another, and circumcision is fairly minor compared to some of those things. If I had a boy I don't know what I would do though.

I am cut for religious reasons, and I never realized until I was older that there was any other way. I've heard of some problems with not being cut, and even knew of a guy who ripped his foreskin while having sex and had to go to the hospital. If I have kids they will be cut for religious reasons, plus if it is gonna be done anytime its probably best when they wont remember it.

For those preaching the benefits of extra nerve endings for the uncut, I remember hearing on Loveline that Dr. Drew said that your nerve endings are already in overload at time of orgasm anyways, so having a couple hundred thousand more wouldn't do too much. If your penis has a foreskin that I guess you could say hangs over/covers the head of your penis then you are uncircumsized. If there isn't any...well you are. Not a great explanation but I'm sure if you google you will find some good illustrations.

I was circumcised, and don't appear to have any adverse side effects. My kids probably will be too, just because I was and everyone else I know is, and whatever benefits there may be in having an intact foreskin are offset by the probable impact on their psyche of kids in middle school making fun of them when they have to take showers in PE and would be different from everyone else, should they be uncircumsized.
Also, I bet it hurts alot, and if it's to be done, I'd rather them not have to have it done when they are old enough to remember pain. I think that benefit is also greater than any benefit in letting them choose.

cut, but while my wife was pregnant we had numerous discussions on the topic and she told me it would ultimately be up to me when the time came. Thank GOD we now have two beautiful girls and I never had to make the decision. I was leaning towards uncut but don’t know what I will do if I ever have to make the decision. An interesting thing to find out would be the location of most people. I think in the US most are cut, however in the UK, most are not.

A lot of people saying being uncut isn't clean, I can only say one thing about that, learn how to wash it ;)

I did an ethics research paper on the issue for class. Circumcision became popular in the mid-20th century (like mainstream popular- it had been gaining beforehand though) for reasons of hygiene. the rabbi i spoke to said that males were fighting in overseas wars (WWI, WWII, Korea...) and getting infections under the foreskin, so to stop these they recomended circumcisions.

SInce then it has been found that circumcision provides some medical benefits, like reduced UTI's, but these benefits can be equalled by teaching the child good hygiene.

So because the medical benifits have been scaled down a lot from what they once were, the only reason other than religious is social. If your having your child cut due to peer pressure on a societal level, you should ask yourself if thats the right motive to do it.

other facts,
-The US is the only country with a majority of circumcised males for non religious reason.

-The trend is droppng, and is currently about 60% for cut and 40% against.

-Because the medical benifits have been discovered to be neglible when good hygiene is taught and used anyway, many insurance companies do not pay for the operation anymore, and parents must pay for it out of pocket. I believe in california its been classified as cosmetic surgery, and the rate there NOW is 30% get cut and 70% do not.

-The head can get desensitized, which can lead to 'lasting longer', but with adequate practice that shouldnt be a problem anyway.

-There are a few instances which circumcision is for medical reasons, but these are fairly rare. These would include something like when the forskin is completely closed up or other kinds of problems.

-before being popularized for hygienic reasons, circumcision was performed on males to reduce masturbation, and it was cut so that the skin would be tight on the verge of painful. This is because masterbation was viewed as soemthing that caused illness and disease. (you'll go blind!) sorta like hygine, but not really. (think late 1800's early 1900's for time span)

IMO the child should get to choose later in life because, although it will hurt a lot more and he'll definately remember, he'll know why he's doing it and for his own reasons.

Basically, the biggest problem is when new parents just have a baby and forced into the decision with no knowledge on the issue without time to think on it.

-if you have your kid go natural, just teach him how to clean himself.

-if you get your kid cut, make sure you know why ur doing it.

Ok that was almost four weeks ago. Thinking that I was going to be healed by the weekend was idiotically optimistic, but now I'm pretty much healed. (mr. surgical scar is still there but it will be gone in due time)
Just to reiterate, I had a circumcision to cure my phimosis. I'm 18.

I'm going to ramble about what my experience was like; take from it what you will. ^-^

I have to say that medically, getting the operation was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
IMHO being cut is so, so much better then the alternative! (keep in mind I had phimosis) Now that I'm healed everything is so much . . . more fun. :)

The surgary was incredably basic so I'm not really going to bore anyone with the details. I showed up, waited around, got one needle, an IV, woke up 45 mins later, went home. -- Simple as hell.
Having said that - the actual recovery of the operation was pure hell. I don't recall being in more pain. I could barely walk for an entire week, and up untill the ninth day I couldn't walk without an obvious "there's something wrong with my man-bits" gait.
it was such an awful experience that I think I might slap someone without thinking if they told me they were having their baby cut.
It was hell enough for me, an adult; I couldn't imagine being a baby and having no idea what's going on or how to take care of himself while healing.
I'm not a doctor, but if a baby's pain receptors are even 10% as developed as my own he's in for a world of pain.

Ok, enough of that.

Some things that I've noticed in the last couple weeks:

• Much easier to keep cleaned, and I mean -a lot- easier. Takes like 3 seconds to clean.
• Any smells (good/bad) seem to be gone. I haven't decided if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
• There hasn't been any change in sexual desensitization, at least none that I'm conciously aware of. There seems to be some sort of mental switch that descides when to kick the nerve endings into overdrive - it's weird.
• I'm concious of my penis when walking far more often (maybe i haven't had enough time to get used to it, I'm not sure)
• I think I'm going to have to purchase some form of lube, as I toss all my old "methods" out the window.
• I don't care what anyone says - it's more aesthetically pleasing! Ego++
• I was worried that having my head exposed all the time would cause me to start coming a lot faster, fortunatly I found out that's not the case while at my girl's house last night.
• Heh. I was surprised to see clothing imprint on the end of my wang one morning a couple days ago. :p

Methinks that my thought on the subject is - don't do it unless you really want to - or have to. It's really neat to be cut - but recovering from the operation is the worst thing ever.

Cut from birth and I actually feel nieve for believing almost everyone was. A friend of mine got cut when he was 14 but thats the only person I knew that wasnt cut.

I'm cut, but my ex-wife and I made the decision not to cut our two boys. The younger one was eventually done for medical reasons, but I still think we made the right choice. If it matters, we are in the U.S. south - we received a lot of criticism for not circumsizing, as it's still the norm here.
