Friends' Sisters'
Today i went over to a friend's place just to pick some stuff up (some software and other crap). I don't normally go over his house too often although when i went over today his sister was home as well.
His sister is a bit older than me (22 i think) but really good looking. She's pretty smart and also very friendly as well. Along with talking to him a lot of my attention was directed at her, of course :p , and she also seemed to keep coming into his room to talk about random shit, so then i could say something to her as well and we both smiled at each other and made eye contact. After a bit i went into the kitchen just to fetch myself a drink (i asked and he said just to grab one in the kitchen, i am not a rude bastard :p ). She heard me fumbling around a bit so she came in and helped me out by gettin all the stuff for me and serving it up. I was just asking about her plans for tonight etc and some other random drivel and questions which i am quite good at and my friend came looking for me cause i'd been gone for 5 minutes or so. I could tell he wasn't happy with me, cause i imagined he was defensive about his sister and annoyed at the flirting etc i was doing. This was more evident when he told me she had a boyfriend, which was out of nowhere. I don't really have much of an idea if she was interested in me or not, or just being overly friendly, but i guess that doens't matter too much at this point. Anyway, with that little story, i was wondering if there's an unspoken rule amogst some guys about sisters being off limits? Is anyone dating a friends sister, any awkwardness? I have a sister myself, but she is much older than me and none of my friends would have a chance of going out with her anyway, so i've never really been in a defensive position of my dodgy friends trying to crack onto my sister. Although i imagine it's annoying, and maybe even worse to think that one of your friends may be sleeping with your sister? Always seems to be a very delicate balance.... |
I would put a friendship in frond of a relationship, i.e. I wouldn't want to messup my friendship for a lass, just talk to him.
|
Yes, no matter how hot your friend's sister is. They are off limits. Only way around that is to leave your friend.
|
as my son would say..."bros before hoes"!!!
|
Well, I'm a girl but I've always heard that you don't date your friends girlfriends. Just like I wouldn't date my friends brothers.... Too weird. What if you break up? Makes for awkward times...
|
I read some rule here recently about this:
If you've known a bloke for more than 24 hours, his sister is off limits forever, unless you actually marry her. and Don't forget the oldest of rules: Bros before Hos. seriously you should talik to him about it before you go any further. Make sure you tell him you like her as a person and waht you like about her. He's a guy, he knows you want to fuck her, he's just concerned. If he has any real objection to it you have to ask yourself if it's worth your friendship for a girl. See above. |
I could know you for twenty years.
Doesn't change that if you break my sisters heart or pull a hit and run on her your going to feel a world of pain. So yes, there is an unspoken bond between two men that we will not go after the female members of one anothers family. It's just a respectful thing to honor. |
umm well i floored my best mate after he tired chatting up my sister on my birthday... so yeah there is a rule which shouldn't be broken!
(unless she's really cute ;)) |
well im rather protective of my younger sister... and i know most of my friends pretty well... theres only 1 i would allow to date her... and well if he hurt her id still rip his head off...
|
em, I went out with my best friends older sister and he was none too happy about it. He took me aside one day and laid out the rules. The funny thing is, he never threatened violence--since I could beat the crap out of him--but I always respected what he said.
I told him, in all honesty that I cared very much for his sister--so much so, that I ended up marrying her. Unfortunately, she and I didn't work out and we went through the most amicable divorce I have ever heard of or seen. She and I are best friends, just not great at being married. Her brother and I are still great friends, and her younger sister still considers me her older bro. I have a great relationship with all of them--something I feel I dont deserve sometimes, however I feel extremely lucky. Personally, I think my case is a rare one... |
I had a friend whose sister (only a year older) thought I was cute and I sort of asked permission from my friend through his girlfriend (cause the thought of dating my pal's sister was a tad strange to me). She (friend's gf) said that neither of them had a problem with it, and gave me the green light.
So I was talking with her for a while and after a couple weeks.... she went back to her ex-bf jerk who her family hated in Seattle. the end. |
I almost beat the shit out of a friend, when I found out he had messed around with my sister.
The whole fraternity had to keep me back. It wasn't that he just messed around, it's that he also already had a long term gf, and he was known for being a player. And even though she was just as responsible, you just don't do that. It's disrespectful...especially, if you're just doing it to get your jollies and move on. Then again, it's very hypocritical of me...because there were a couple of my sister's friends I had flings with. But then she was mad at me when she found out about those. I guess it's a sibling posession thing...conflict of interest and all. I would just be VERY wary about starting anything, and if you do, make sure it's honorable...and any conflicts are finished before moving on. |
meh, she can take care of herself.
|
I really like to agitate one of my friends by always talking about his sister in really suggestive ways, so I would guess it is one of those unspoken rules. Then again, his sister is only 14 years old.

I'd have to say that you'd have to be a REALLY REALLY REALLY good friend to date my (imaginary) sister. You'd have to be like a blood brother to me, so that I'd know your background and whether or not you're good for her. You can't date her. If you're going to be involved, you better mean it all the way- meaning marrying her. And yeah, if you "break my sisters heart or pull a hit and run on her", i'll put a permanent hurt on you. |
haha... i´m going to get bitch-slapped for this...
but, hey, play away... theres only one thing than messing with a friends sister, and thats telling him later. j/k seriously, if your mates already getting pissed off with you flirting with his sister, then just imagine how quickly your friendship with him would deteriorate with him if you went any further. when it comes to friends sisters, well, its off-limits imo ... |
I'm 6 yrs older than my brother. We got along really well. He would get protective of me at times but mostly his guy friends who liked me would check it with him first. Half the time he'd be the one to ask me if I'd go out with them - being the matchmaker sortof. If he didn't like them though they never asked me even though he'd tell me that they liked me. He didn't mind his friends flirting with me but he knew that if he didn't think the guy would be good for me then I probably wouldn't do anything more than flirt. He was a pretty good judge of whether I'd end up really liking the guy or not.
I'd suggest not pursuing anything with her if you value your friendship. If he didn't mind and you made sure he knew that you wouldn't go any further you could flirt with her but I would make sure he knew that was all it was. Little brother's or big are so often protective of their sisters. |
Unless he gives you his approval, she's completely off limits. Even if he does ok it, things could get very weird.
