Been tested?
In this age of wildly spreading STDs, how many of us actually get tested on a regular basis, or at least have once been tested?
|
i havnt been tested yet , must get round to in someday , i know the only person i have been sexualy active with though has been and it was clear
|
i havnt... my past 2 partners were both virgins... before i got to em... so im in the clear... if i ever need to for whatever reason i wouldnt hesitate to...
|
This is probably not an answer that you would expect, but yes I was tested several times in the past.
The way the story goes is that I had an ROTC scholarship to go to college. I got all my shots and vaccinations during the summer. Then in September, I had to take my physical. I showed positive on the serology battery. So I had to give another blood sample. It was positive, but less so. So I did it again. It was still positive, but even less so. Finally, they figured out that my tetnus shot was giving a false positive for sphyllis. The thing that made it hard to explain was that I was still a virgin at that point and my mother was a nurse. So she knew what they were testing for. :D Of course, that was back in 1965. |
Ne reason for me to get tested for anything.
I'm very picky with who I'll get busy with. |
No reason for me, either, being a virgin still.
But I've heard about getting crabs from a blanket, etc. |
i´ve never been tested. i´m always careful.
still the stats on the commoness of some STDs are frightening. like i think the current add for herpes says 1 in 12... but i´m not sure... its not like i listen intently to all the ads huh. |
It doesn't matter if you're careful or not, you should still get tested. You can never know 100% about the people you sleep with, as much as you love them and want to believe them, they might be lying or not know they have anything. You can get AIDS from oral, so it's not safe to THINK you're being careful enough.
|
I was tested once for HIV. I got this rare type of infection that's common in AIDS patients (probably due to stress-induced immune weakness) and my doctor recommended it, even though I was 99% sure I was safe. It was still a little nerve-wracking, and it was a relief to hear I was negative.
|
I've only been with 1 person and she's only been with me...makes it easy to know.
|
Yes, regularly! I'll bet nobody was expecting me to say that! ;)
I'm tested for HIV and Hep-B, every 6 to 8 weeks or so. It's part of the normal screening process for every pint of blood donated at the Red Cross. Never been tested for anything else.... |
I voted No, but ratbastid has a point. I get tested when I donate blood. However I haven't intentionally been tested. I was celibate the whole time my wife and I were dating and have only been with her since then. That is around 13 years now.
|
Only by donating blood.
Other than that, I have no worries - it hasn't been anywhere it shouldn't have for at least fifteen years now. BTW - for all you virgins and cherry-poppers out there - it is very possible to get an STD while still refraining from actual intercourse. Be smart. Stay safe. |
not regularly, but my current g/f and I both got tested before we started doing stuff. If one of us does mess up and cheat we have to get tested again, before things can start to go back to normal. and if we ever move on to other people, i plan on making sure that the next one gets tested too.
|
Nver been tested, but I have had only two partners who were both virgins. No reason to test.
|
Last time I was tested was right before my marriage, 20 years ago. At least, specific test for STDs. I give blood regularly and they test then, but, I don't count that.
|
I ask for a full screening every year at my yearly physical AT LEAST. I take hormones and deal with BV and Yeast frequently as a result of the hormones so while they're down there they check for everything like that and then I just get some blood taken and I'm done. When you are swinging you have to be careful. We've become friends with the couples that we usually swing with and wouldn't want to give them something either. I know my best friend and her husband get checked frequently too - she shares her Dr stories with me and I with her. We did not get checked before hubby and I married because we had both been celibate and our parents had all been completely monogomos. It's best to make sure you are tested every 6 months or for HIV because it takes about 6 months usually for it to actually show it in the blood. More often then not they get positive tests back and when they recheck it's negative. The percentage of true HIV infections that they catch is VERY high.
|
Probably more regularly in the past because i was alot wilder BUT still do regualarly....
|
Could a male who has had the test describe exactly what the process is?
|
i am high class pussy ;)
i have only had sex with one man and he has only had sex with me. i went to give blood once (before i kept piercing myself and wasn't allowed to), but they couldn't find my vien, so i guess i haven't even been tested that way. i guess i could get tested because of my piercings, but i know the place well and i trust them. |
Every 3 months.
And it's been like that for 4 years. |
When I was single, I got tested every time I started getting serious in a relationship. The waiting for results can be killer - I was occasionally stupid on one-nighters and didn't use protection. Lucky that I never caught anything...
Once I got a phone call from a girl I was banging on a semi-regular basis telling me that she might have been exposed to hepatitis - B or C, I forget which one but it was the one that kills your liver (and you). Turned out we both tested negative, but that was the LONGEST week of my life - thinking I may have killed myself by being such a dumbass. Do yourself a favor and USE PROTECTION! //gets off soapbox |
I give blood every three months, and if anything shows up, they tell me. So far nothing. Im not extremely active, but I've had a few times where I've wondered, and I guess three monthly is pretty regular.
|
I get tested after every relationship. My relationships usually last 1 or 2 years... I guess it's just to make sure I wasn't cheated on and given a death sentence. I'm not sure what else to say except that wet sex beats wrapped sex -cold.
|
Never been tested, but then again, never had sex.
|
nope, no reason.

As for me, I've never had any sort of sexual contact, never had a transfusion, never had a piercing, never been tattooed, and therefore am not at risk for anything and do not have to be tested yet. |
I get tested on a regular basis, but only because to keep on my birth control I have to have a complete exam every year. The only time I ever "needed" to get tested- I did so right away.
|
Been tested is so vague, but I'm guessing you mean HIV/AIDS. I get tested regularly during my physical exams for all the regular stuff.
By the way people, you don't get tested during your physicals for HIV/AIDS. You have to specifically request that. In my experience, I've met quite a few people who think when the doctor asks if you wanted to get tested it includes testing for HIV/AIDS but it doesn't. So... just a heads up. |
Military gets HIV tested annually. But I'm married and monogamous nowadays anyway.
-Mikey |
I get tested for the Hep ad Aids and such every time I give blood (every 2 months or less)
Otherwise, for all STDs, I got tested last year, and havent slept with any other people other than my g/f, who is also clean. Ill test again if I ever change partners, but I dont see that happening... ever. |
Myself, only when i give blood. I don't fool around with strange stuff so don't figure i need to.
|
Yes, but not regularly.
Married and needed a test before the license would be issued. And I have a liver condition that looks like Hepatitis so they had to check THAT out, too. |
I get bi-annual physical and I think it is a standard part of it. I've been manogamous since '85 anyway, so it is kind of irrelevant. When I met my then wife to-be aides was "gay cancer" and you had to consider not sleeping with a Haitian.
/leans on walker - puts on depends... |
I get them twice a year usually, still clean...
|
i was tested once when a girl i was with told me afterwards the she had heppatitus b, but havent been tested since that came back clean. Other than blood donations that is.
|
I've tested 3 times, still clean!
edit: I bet I just jinxed myself |
Never been tested for an STD
then again i've only had sex with one person. and we were both virgins at the time. (I know thats not a gurantee, but its been a year since out first time, and no problems so far for either of us) I'd assume if i had a physical checkup or gave blood i would have to be tested for various things, but since i only do intramural college sports these days I don't see that happening soon. |

been tested for a few things over the years, yeah, never found anything but gf got raped so we got tested, just to be sure.
|
I get tested every time I initiate a new Life Insurance policy. Being a business owner with partners and investors, that happens more than you would think. :)
Clean as a whistle so far... |
I've been tested a few times. One thing EVERYONE should be made aware of is that Herpes is NOT included in the tests when you go an ask your doc for the STD workup.
This is because the virus can be in your system but there's no way to know if it's genital herpes or oral herpoes, shingles or whatever. The reason I know this? Lucky me. My birthday shag had herpes, didn't know it, and he'd been tested just a month earlier. We used condoms, didn't help. The gift that keeps on giving. Was thinking about doing a seperate post about it just for educations sake. All I knew about Herpes was not to let a guy go down on me if he had a cold sore. I didn't know about the symptoms, about how the virus can be shed even if no symptoms showing, that it doesn't just affect the "working bits" but can be around the scrotum, inner thigh area (ie. areas not covered by rubber). My doc said that 1/8 people who are tested for it have HSVii and most never knew about it. She also said 90% of people have HSVi (usually as oral herpes - cold sores!). not much difference between HSVi and HSVii - just the structure of the virus. Anyway, I'll be getting re-tested in January (haven't shagged since and it's highly likely I won't be shagging prior to then either) and then will see. Yay for enforced celibacy. :/ |
That's the unfortunate thing about the sex ed. programs in the US. The way they teach it gives the impression that condoms protect you against everything. The sad truth of the matter is it isn't a cureall for every disease known to mankind. I heard though, that they are beginning to call it safER sex instead of safe sex. That's a start...
|
never been tested. Only had one partner for the last 2 years, and she said she was tested right b4 we got together. She's been tested several times since, when she goes to the gyno. We felt no real need to have me tested, but I said I would go with her the next time.
|
I'm on my way this morning to get tested for HIV/AIDS. It's only been a month since my last test but my doctor insisted that I come back again. He does this every once in a while to scare me. There isn't anything wrong... he's just trying to freak me out. At least I hope nothing is wrong... Eeek.
HIV/AIDS can take up to six months to show itself. So, people that have sex then go get tested within the next few days might be coming up clean when in fact they aren't it's good to get tested again in three months then again in another three months... ask your doctor about it. |
been tested once, after having unprotected sex in a monogomous relationship...
i've been with another partener since (protected) but its definitely been in my mind to go and do it again. Talk about nerver racking. |
My wife is a lab director at a clinic so she has to get tested regularly
She steals my blood to run quality control on her machines. I couldn't get away with anything if I wanted to, which I don't.
It's amazing the number of teens and 20 somethings that are positive for some kind of STD and didn't have a clue.
|
Seeing as I've only slept with one girl, my current girlfriend, no I haven't been tested. I trust her, too.
|
Nope, virgin, so no reason
|
