should i ask her to try it again?

i have this ex that in heart i will always love...i see that there is nothing that will change that...anyways on to my little problem...me and her been friends ever since we broke up almost 2 years ago...well a month ago we started to hang out again and we both talked and we decided the reason why we broke up was cause we rushed into it and we never took the time to get to know each other before we dated...well like i said it's been almost 2 years since we broke up and well i think we both know who we are and what we want and need in a realtionship and the reason i said that is cause she tried to hook me up with her best friend cause she said out of all her boyfriends...i would be the best for her...now could she also be saying that cause she thinks i would be good for her also? and other thing i thought of was a while back i was driving her and her friend around her friend's car cause they wanted to drink and they needed a D.D. so i had no trouble doing that and while we were driving around she said something and i have for no reason know why she said this and that was "if didn't have a boyfriend now i would fuck you" now let me remind you all her so called bf is in prison and if everything happens like it should according to the law he will be in there for another year....and even she considers herself single right now cause of it...ok im going to stop this story now but like i said should i talk to her about us trying it again or leave it as friends? thanks for all your advice here at TFP :)

Hurley,

You are a mess! You are hanging with chicks who go drinking and who have boys who are so lawless they wind up in prison.

Man, it's not whether it's you or her. It's what you are making of your life. Get one. Set yourself some goals to put yourself on track, son. Choose a career worth having, get some education, learn to read and write, and then some fine lady will latch onto you, and she'll be so much more worth having. OK?

Yup, cause there are these things called periods. They aren't just what girls get once a month. They end sentances. Look into it ;)

On a non-jackass slant, do you really want a girl who would say "If I didn't have a boyfriend I would fuck you"??? What kind of girl is that?

And who drives around drinking? I didn't know people did that past the age of 16.

Forget her and her in jail boyfriend.

lurkette 10-09-2003 05:19 AM

I agree - she sounds like trouble. Do you really want to date a woman who dumps her boyfriend in prison? Remember, he's getting out eventually, and he's probably gonna be pissed. She does sound slightly immature and perhaps if you wait a bit longer still and see if the friendship continues to flourish and if she grows out of some bad behaviors, you might be better off.

If you want to spend the rest of your life as the DD and second fiddle to an imate, go for it. Other than that, I'm with Lurkette, give the girl and yourself time to mature.

johnnymysto 10-09-2003 06:10 AM

Dag, 3 girls say to leave this chick in the dust...I can't argue with that. Plus, any girl who throws out a line like that doesn't sound too committed to anyone - really.

Forget her.

Cynthetiq 10-09-2003 07:37 AM

damn. no periods. took me a while to figure that out.

and with that said, don't bother with her.

The ladies have covered plenty of good reasons not to pursue this, but a friend once gave me this advice when I was waffling whether to get back together with an ex-: If you're looking through your refrigerator and notice the milk has gone bad, you dont put it back and try it again later, hoping it has become fresh again.

That is the best metaphor ever! Well, I think it's a metaphor... Damn, I should know this. I was going to major in English for chrissakes.

Have you tried asking her where you stand with her EXACTLY? She might even just be messing with your mind to see if she still has power over you. If she wants to be with you then she will dump her prison boyfriend. Dont be her bitch but it takes two for a relationship. Just my opinion

In this case, run away- and do it fast. Dale Kemp has the right idea- Go to school. Get a degree in SOMETHING. Go get a nice job. Quit hanging out with Drinky McPrisonWench, and find a nice girl at school.

To seperately address the "ex" thing, though, I have to disagree in MY case. Sometimes it's not that it's milk, sometimes it's more like wine. At first you give it a try and for some reason right then it doesn't agree with you- so maybe some time later you're sifting through the fridge and.. "what is this? this is that wine i had... but this was no good before, surely... hmmm much better now, I could live with this."

I know many people who dated someone, broke up for a while, and then got back together to be very happy for the entire rest of their lives. Only one that pops to mind are friends of my grandparents. They had their 50th anniversary a few months ago and in the cards they sent out as invitations to their wedding vow renewal, they had the story of how they broke up for almost a year- hated each other at first, but then they realized their mistakes and found their love was there the whole time. Got married the next year. Almost made me tear up when I read it.

Really! I was starting to worry that maybe the paragraph was pregnant!

That wise-assery accomplished, here's my two cents:

Don't run per se. You don't have to stop being her friend. That's fine! Just don't get any deeper. Say to yourself, "Been there, done that, avoided the jail time...."
