Hidden Pornography
 

After reading the sister-in-law porn stash thread, I've been thinking: Why do we hide our pornography? Why not just place it out in the open? Is it because of our own repression and that nagging voice in the back of our head that tells us that it's obscene and immoral? Or is it the fact that pornography tends to reveal more about us than we'd like others to know (i.e. sexual preference and deviance)?

I think it's a little of both. What say you?

for the same reason people try to hide the fact that they pick their nose. Sure, almost everyone does it, but if others see you doing it you have to deal with all the sanctimonious bullshit that people hurl at you as though they themselves have never, EVER, done such a thing.

I think it reveals an intimacy...certainly to know someone elses preferences and personal deviances would be a glimpse into their lives. I don't want to share that randomly, nor would I want to really know about other people's. It is a rather personal collection.

No shame in having porno, watching it etc...but I don't want my friends knowing exactly what I watch.

Come to think of it, I don't have a porno stash and I have 8 Pictures of Ditta von tease on my "My Pictures" folder. But then, I do clear my history/cookies quite often because I visit "out there" websites (as I think about it while I type is VERY stupid cause they're all in my bookmarks, very well categorized in folders :surprised:) so no, I don't hide my porn ... at least, I do hide but I don't do a good job of it which is OK, I live alone. No one has a chance to use my computer.

So yeah, people hide their porn because they're insecure.

As a curious teenager, I was interested in pornography for "research purposes".

My father had a box of magazines which I found and rented out to my mates in our attic.

One day my mum found out, and I was told "would you be prepared to read it in the living room?". I said that I would, and so she made me.

Wasn't really as much fun...

I put mine in a zip folder, then I zip that folder, then I change the file name from .zip to .doc, open it with a text editor, then I copy that info, and paste it into a a MS paint document, then I zip that a few times, change the name to .mp3, then burn it to a CD.

I label the CD: Hardcore PORN, and put it on my coffee table

I think it's prudent to keep some things private. My children use our computer, can enter our bedroom. I wouldn't care to share that side of my life with them.

Why even keep porn? There's enough of it online for free that I don't feel the need to stash any.

If I did, though, I don't think I'd go to great lengths to hide it. Maybe not have it on my desktop in a folder labelled 'KINKY RHINOCEROUS PORN GOES HERE,' but I'm not ashamed of the fact that I enjoy sex and if someone goes snooping they get what they deserve in terms of discomfort etc. Our condoms are in the wide open in the bedroom as well, and I apply the same logic there.

Then again, there's only Magpie and me here usually. She doesn't particularly care for or about porn, and I'm not a big porn guy myself -- I kind of figure that once you get past the taboo nature of it, it's just two (or more) people having sex, and that doesn't usually hold my interest for very long. I'll occasionally look; she knows, and it doesn't bother her as long as it's not out of control. She doesn't at all so far as I know, but I wouldn't really care if she did. So overall we really have nothing to hide.

Hiding porn is a twofold thing. It's for our own comfort, and also for the comfort of those around us. Most people aren't comfortable with such things being out in the open, so we keep up the charade.

As for me, what little I keep, is on my desktop, in my "video" folder... along with some non- porn. Not really hidden but not really open. I do not keep much though because as said, there is so much out there always available.

I used to keep mine out in the open until my cleaning lady asked that I not. never really thought about it. There were several DVD's in with all my mainstream DVD's that she didn't care to see. I put them in my laptop bag, problem solved.

I made the mistake of keeping porn in a desktop folder labeled 'PORN.' That totally didn't go over well with a snooping ex.

My current approach to women / porn is, "You buy shoes. I look at porn. Fucking deal with it, you body conscious prude."

Also: Anytime a women tells me her partner doesn't look at porn? I belly laugh like I've got earplugs crammed deep.

I don't own non-digital porn (i.e., magazines and DVDs), so for me it's all computer-based. And while I don't keep it on my desktop, I do keep a folder in my top hard-drive folder labeled "porn." I have no problems with it, and anyone on my computer either has my permission, in which case they know me, and won't be offended, or they're snooping, in which case, why would I care if they're offended?

If you prefer looking at pictures, I see your point, although most full pictorials are over a hundred pics - which means browsing thru page after page (or lots of scrolling!). Saving them to your HD gives you the opportunity to view the set as a slide show. Before Windows had a feature for that, I downloaded Alchemy Mindworks' Graphic Workshop Professional.

If you prefer video, I find that most of the streaming online stuff is very low resolution - like 320 x 180 if you're lucky. Most of the vids I download are at least 640 x 480. I'm even starting to see 1280 x 720 scenes that are so hi-res they're over 600 MB for a 20-some minute scene. You won't find anything like that streaming online.

Besides - don't you have some favorites you'd like to keep around? :) There's no guarantee that anything online will be there tomorrow.

To answer the OP's question, though, I just archive them into password-protected *.rar files; then rename them to *.chk .

^^ The only reason I would not have internet would be because I haven't paid thebill, and hence I don't deserve to be watching porn at all, let alone doing anything that involves pleasuring myself.

My porn "stash" is so large that one hard drive could not contain it. I have a few spindles of DVD's that contain films, clips, and photos (from the dial up days).

I stopped hiding porn when I was a teenager. I started leaving my HUSTLER magazines in a box next to the bed. Guess mom never noticed. My little brother did. In fact, I think that's how he learned to read. He wanted to know what the cartoon captions said.

Great motivator for that student in your home who is having trouble with his reading!

I tried to put it on my iPod the other day after about 6 beers and two Ambien. I ended up erasing all my music :( I'll stick with Pornhub Mobile and mofosex mobile.

It depends on circumstances I think, if my family used this computer I would hide it or not have it at all. If I were sharing this computer with friends it wouldn't phase me and I would probably put in an easy to find place so they can access it as well. Currently as I am the only one using my computer its located in My Videos > Other > Porn because I am obsessive compulsive about having things organised on my computer, even my porn

i used to have some... i hide it within ten layers of decoy folders, each decoy folder had ten more folders in it... then all of that was hidden within a start menu folder for a lame application. every folder was also hidden. i never purchased physical porn and i have never managed to find a source to download videos to load up a hard drive... still not sure where to find that lmao

i did discover a load of porn on a friend's computer... it was interesting to see what was there... it didn't seem like to much of a taboo topic and we exchanged some of our collections via disc.

I hide it for the same reason I don't walk around naked in front of strangers or fart in their faces, cause it's potentially rude. Most people aren't gonna like it. I'm not at all ashamed of it. Nor private...if someone asks, I share.

I don't understand it either. We know everyone atleast "guys" have some or have watched porn before. But because society will think that your nasty or a weirdo for watching porn, makes people feel unsecured knowing that if people know they watch porn. And if someone says they have not watched porn in some way or shape in their life ever before, they are lying thru their a.ss and I hope they get probed by aliens, god or the devil.

i used to have a ton of magazines which i stole from a store i used to work in. they were always left out in the open and was no big deal. this was when i was around 20-23 i think. my dad threw them away one day when my grandad was commin to visit tho

But I actually create a folder, create sub folders for categorize, and then zip the whole thing with password. When I really need it, I unzip them :)

In my case the reason is "Taste" aka preference.
I like perky tits. I like pictures where the girl has some expression. I like natural hair there, or a pattern, trim etc. That little detail in the pics turns me ON. I like the ones with cute tatoos like Butterflies, art/flowers, scorpio, etc. So I kind of collect them...

And I definitely save the ones where 'she' shows 'it' in the rear... Kind of that feels very inviting.... I know I am such a pervert so I better keep it hiddddddddden!!!!!!!!!

I would say it's the later in my case, I've gone so far down the porn road that the things that gets me going can seem a bit outlandish sometimes. I don't want my SO finding it and think normal sex isn't doing it for me because of them.

My biggest fear around my porn stash is that someone is going to go through it and think that just because there are some outlandish things in it, that's the the things I want to do in real life as well.

I've talked to a lot of people who can't fathom the difference between a sexual fantasy and a desire to make that fantasy reality. The main reason I hide my porn, is because of people like this.

Mine gets hidden because I have a 9yr old daughter who I don't think is ready to be exposed to pornography. When she and her sister are older I don't think there will be a need to hide it. I have tried very diligently to raise both of my children to be open minded about sexuality. I am not saying I am trying to make them into strippers or porn stars but I feel they will be better off in life if they understand the human body and are comfortable with it, rather than being taught the bs that most think is the best route for youth.

This thread reminds me that I need more porn...to hide.

Your example has elucidated something for me. It probably has more to do with the fact like "Shit. i'm sitting in this chair, where you jerked off. It's probably covered in your bodily fluids" just like "shit, i just shook your hand, boogar brains."

Because if I did leave it out, it and all the other benign thing I leave around the house, would eventually be subject to one of my wife's "cleaning" moods and I'd never see it again. Not that she throws it away, she just organizes sooooo well.........

Wife doesn't care much, yet I hide it to a small degree. i don't delete my history, but I don't open it in front of her either. Whatever that means.

I subscribe to playboy. We both read it. It's not what I consider porn, but it's on the counter in the guest bathroom. If they see it, they can infer whatever they will. Parents and siblings alike will know we read it. If a priest came over, he would know as well. Not that a priest would likely come over, but that's how we are. We don't really keep any other "porn" or nude images, digitized or otherwise.

I don't hide my porn from my wife. She knows I watch or look at pornography, and she's fine with it. I don't keep it on the coffee table or anything. I have some sex books that share the bookshelf space with other books, I don't mind people seeing them. And I'm not into anything really freaky so I'd be pretty okay keeping my porno mags in plain sight, I just put them in a drawer or closet because most Americans don't share that sentiment.

HD is the way to go. 1080p, organized, in a folder on my desktop.
