Hiv cure?
Ok i would like to say that i know very little when it comes to stds and what not ,but the reason im posting here is because i had a weird thought last night. Wouldnt the cure to HIV be making people carriers but not show symptoms of it.
Id also like to say this thread involved little reasearch, thats why im coming here to have you guys horribly shut down this thought  . |
I'm a little confused by what you're asking.... the cure to HIV would be to make people carriers and when they don't show symptoms that's it? Your grammar confounds me.

I think he's saying that if the virus is harmless, then it doesn't matter if people are infected with it.
The problem is practicality. Our bodies naturally adapt to all kinds of stuff, but clearly HIV isn't one of those things. Some people are carriers, but for the rest of us there really isn't a way to stop the virus from doing what it does. As an aside, if you are an adult and have sex, becoming educated on STD's is a very good idea. |
Thats exactly what i mean..If we made it so people could get the disease and it wouldnt matter. What if we could make it so that it wouldnt have a effect on everyone. Would that be even possible? Basically making everyone that gets it a carrier.
|
Yes, that would work... if we could find a way for it not to take effect on people. Basically, we have points A, B, and C, and you're skipping from A to C with no B.

lol
-----Added 20/9/2008 at 02 : 18 : 58----- wouldnt the answer to that be in genetics....so basically hiv is solved when genetic engineering is more advanced right? |
There are many viruses--including some past pandemics--that were conquered by the human immune system and now show up as vestigial fragments in our DNA. Wouldn't it be wild to have HIV be, centuries from now, just a chunk of inert genes in our genome?
|
HIV acts like a symptom more than a virus, although it is a virus, the pandemics ratbastid speaks of were not viruses in the first place, reason why we were unable to cure the cold, seeing as EVERYONE get's it!!
HIV does have a cure, I believe we just don't know it yet. ARV's dont help much about it seeing as they treat AIDS, but not the root cause, but I am sure we will get there. |
Okay well i did a bit of research and the cure to smallpox was a drug call dryvax wich contains live vaccina virus cells. Here is the link to the source of where i got this Dryvax Information - Drugs and Treatments - MedHelp . I also did more research into small dose therapy on other diseases one wich was Parkinsons disease. So after reading that im wondering if that could be applied to HIV. HIV contaminated people contain small amounts of the HIV in their saliva. So wouldnt regular small doses of HIV wich wouldnt be enough to infect someone be the cure. The way that someone gets tested positive for HIV is by testing to see if they have HIV antibodies or RNA. Source - HIV test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . So if we gradually built up HIV antibodies to HIV wouldnt that make us immune to most early cases of HIV?
I actually spent some time on this research so please feel free to poke holes in this if youd like because i found out research on this sort of thing is actually quite fun ,also if you would like to add to this or have any suggestions please post back |
I think we have better chances of learning how to immunize us against it by looking at the immune systems of those who are immune to the disease already.

problem with HIV and why ARV protocols don't work for everyone is because the virus is different in every person. hence why two infected individuals are encouraged to continue to use protection... else they run the risk of having two strains of the virus.
at least that was my understanding when i worked in HIV services. |
