This piece is also from Sweatbox, a live spoken word CD done by Henry Rollins almost 20 years ago. It is track before Untouchable, his dissertation on surviving breakups. This one is called Mekanik and deals with how people are animals and the grand dating (mating) game.

When you come into that restaurant in that short dress: All the men want to stop eating their meal and EAT YOU! Sure, we love you... but we love you so we can fuck the living hell out of you! I got ya there and ya know it!

You know when your out with the guy... at the end of the evening, right... The part where you "give it up..." Like Fort Knox opening it's vault doors and letting the sun shine in. Your idea of love is a joke to the male animal. Yes, we'll say any god-damn thing we can to get into your pants, that's all we want, that's it!

Let the Mekanik TELL YOU THE TRUTH! You've been lied to long enough.

Do you ever feel like you're getting used? Well, you are! All the time it's a game, it's all mechanics, that's all there is. What the hell do you think you are? You're nothing but an animal! You're brain is nothing, your head is spinning from love and bullshit. The guy just wants to get it in you, that's all. The words and phrases he uses are just symbols that you have learned to understand to reinforce the lie. It's all different ways of saying the same thing. You're no different. You pick the lie that you feel the least uncomfortable with and go with it. Don't you see that you lie to yourself every time you think that he loves you?

All the time he tells you that he's in love, all the time you tell yourself that you're in love, you're in love alright, in love with AN IDEA. A concept, a mechanic process. All we want to do is fuck you, all we want to do is fuck you. We don't lie, we just tell you what you want to hear so we can get into the clubhouse. You will never get away from the Mekanik.

I AM THE TRUTH.

There's not much to life. You do a lot of bullshitting to make it look like there is some big deal to it, looking for all this meaning in simple biology. The guys got ya beat there and ya know why? Because most of them are stupid, not much different than dogs, not much different than lab rats pushing on buttons to get food. We just want to fuck you, MILLIONS JUST WANT TO FUCK YOU. And the ones that get the most are the ones that know how to tell you what you want to hear the best.

I know all the lines, that's why they call me the Mekanik. I'm not hung up on all this emotion bullshit, I just go in and get the job done... like plumber, like a mercenary, like a mechanic.

I think he cackles after this before it runs into the next track. Pretty potent.

This is a lot of generalizations, but I always worry that its really applicable.

I wonder if I should adopt it more in my pursuit of temporary companionship.

What do you all think? Are we hungry animals trying to make more outta life than desperately mashing wet meat on wet meat in the lonely dark?
