My virgin 18 yo brother has a gf, must meddle!

So, my younger brother has gotten himself a girlfriend (she's 18) somehow. Amazing. I'd like to send him some good articles to read about sex, and doing it right so it's good for the both of them. I'll also be giving him condoms (regular and chocolate flavor, yum). Any TFPers wanna share some good articles I could send him? I'm looking to send him some stuff on technique, as well as how not to get STDs or his gf preggers. Maybe I should also tell him to get on here. Thoughts?

Send him a copy of Penthouse Letters.

Seriously, why shouldn't his first time be the fumbling uncoordinated mess that everyone else's first time was?

yotta 07-02-2007 08:34 AM

My first time wasn't a fumbling uncoordinated mess, thanks to the internet :P

I got my major sex talk from a camp councilor like everyone else. I was in like 6th grade (so I was 12ish). Looking back, it was very creepy, but the guy gave good advice. It provided a foundation upon which I could build my own technique. If you're 18 and you don't know anything, there are other things to consider, like "why have I been locked in my room without access to TV, internet, and radio my whole life?"

So long as you remind him to wrap it up, he'll be fine.

I really don't think porn is a good place to learn how to have sex, since it focuses more on what looks hot then what feels good.

Willravel 07-02-2007 08:45 AM

It's hardly just pornography, and also there's not just one type of pornography.

I learned a bit about the whole thing from a few articles from Men's Health (this was maybe 8-9 years ago that I started reading them). There were in depth articles about all sorts of things that I found to be most helpful. On TFP, in fact, there are numerous threads (many started by me!) about how it's done.

Make sure he knows how not to get a girl pregnant... apart from that, I say let him explore himself. :)

Tell him to come here.

Glory's Sun 07-02-2007 10:06 AM

ahh just let the kid have his fun.

He probably wouldn't even want you to tell him anything. I also quite sure he knows what the internet is as well.

You can read about technique all day long.. but that doesn't mean you'll be good at it. Practice makes perfect.

When I was growing up, Sex Educator Sue Johansen had a radio show where she dispensed her honest brand of sex advice and I giver her a lot of credit for me being a sensitive and skilled lover. I haven't needed to listen to her for a long time, but she now has a show on Oxygen and a website full of info.

Of course, I also credit listening to all those female comics on Evening at the Improv complain about lousy lovers for helping me focus on the importance of giving. :D

Also, I can't imagine getting sex advice from my brother. Uh, good luck with that. :p

I don't know about anyone else here, but I would be weirded out by my brother or sister giving me advice about sex and tecnique....but that's just me.

yotta 07-02-2007 10:16 PM

I don't plan to give him advice. Just direct him to some good reading material. :P

Whilst the person above has a very valid point, you could do worse than point him in the direction of my blog - which I am not sure I am supposed to do here but Im gonna do it because I just spent the last year interviewing people of all ages about their 'first times'. It might give him an idea of what he is in for. 'Caitlains Corner' - google it, is also a great source of information.
Good luck!

Nimetic 07-07-2007 04:18 PM

Yep, get him a mixed box eh?

jth 07-07-2007 07:40 PM

if you don't think he's already not read, watched or thought excessively about it already then you're in for a surprise.

I say let him figure it out for himself. If he wants advice from you he'd ask ;)

Slims 07-07-2007 09:36 PM

The Joy of Sex by Alex Comfort.

Written in the late 60's or therabouts it is still the classic that all other how-to sex manuals must be judged. It's also back in print...check out amazon.

Also tell him not to do what he sees in porn. At least not right out of the gate.

ruggerp11 07-08-2007 04:24 PM

Ok I guess my question is do you think you'll impact how he handles his sexuality? I think there is something to be said about finding your own way through it, and maybe therefore tainting exactly what he would have gotten into through his own meandering?
