The Female Brain- New Book
Watching Late Night TV one night, I saw a program where the host produced a new book on the market called the Female Brain.
After a few weeks, I was in Barnes and Noble and stumbled across this book. Since I was slightly embarrassed been seen with the book in my hand (I'm just that way), I only quickly thumbed through some of it. One topic JUMPED out at me because it was based on the "time" spent between men and women thinking about sex. It claimed men think of sex every 52 seconds. (ya ya...I've heard it before), but claimed women think about sex only every two days. Can this be accurate? Every two days? Any thought on this? Has anybody read the book? I mean....c'mon......every two days? Seems unreasonable in the world in which we live, since most advertisement and promotion has some sort of sexual twist. And honestly........for a man? Every 52 seconds? How do we function? Here is the link to the Barnes and Noble Website. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...920094&z=y#SYN |
Judging by my current gf, i'd say its off by quite a bit.... but averaging my ex into it, I'd say its getting closer.
It's probably just the social pressure put upon each sex in modern society that scews(spelling? I'm a little drunk) the results so much. Men are expected to think about sex often, while women are expected to maintain a more "lady-like" attitude towards it. |
Every two days my ass.

A book made of bullshit, marketed to sell to the gullible people who don't know any better.
Women think of sex more often than men. *points at his Fiancee* Living proof. |
Seems like crap to me. But I really wonder how they come up with these figures. I cant think any way to accurately measure what someone is thinking of and how often they think of it. The minute you tell someone to records what they are thinking you automatically alter what they are thinking. Its all bull to me.

Everyone is different, women, men, martians, whatever you are, you are different. 86.54% of statistics are made up on the spot, and that is a fact, and I believe 2.5% of them... |
Actually, I'd heard it was once every four to seven seconds for men (I think five). And once every 17 for women.
Um, remember, it's not like this happens once every five seconds. But in an hour stretch of time, four to seven minutes are spent thinking about sex. Or average it out over days/weeks if you wish. Seems pretty darn accurate to me, and there are -many- exceptions to the rule. In both directions. |
I am thinking about sex more often than any female nowadays because I am not physically with my guy. I haven't seen him for a month now and will be seeing him in 10 days... the anticipation is driving me to derive wonderful orgasmic fantasies throughout my day... everyday.
"Every 2 days".. No way. More like every 2 seconds. |

Okay, back to normal speed... I'm female, and yes, I must admit that two days can pass without me thinking about sex. It just doesn't come to mind (I also do not watch TV, so no marketing there). This is especially true when my husband and I are apart from each other for many days in a row, and I just have no reason to really think about sex. If I start browsing some porn or my husband makes a lewd comment to me :suave: then I'm DEFINITELY thinking about sex, and acting on it. But it's hard for me to just start up thinking about sex on my own, unless I'm physically around him or have a strong verbal or visual stimulant. That said, when we're together, there's really no limit to how much I'd like to fuck. |
I think 52 times every second a bit exaggerated, but only a bit!
|
Well, the problem with this is that it relies on self-report. Unless we developed mind reading shit and nobody notified me. :)
|
I'm sure the frequency depends on many factors, but for a woman in her mid-thirties who is married with young kids, I would say 2 days is quite possible.

This thread should have a poll.
I have sexually related thoughts every day, but not every minute. Also I say sexually related, but not sex exactly. Because I may feel that something turns me on or is sexy, but I' not instantly thinking about some guy fucking me, though I might feel some "urges" lol. That sort of thought, about actual sex, might happen every few days or so. My sex drive isn't that high I think. Hope that helps you understand a bit better, though I'm not sure how most women think. I have some girl friends who at least talk about it a lot more than me, and others who never do. What they're thinking, is anybody's guess. |
