Gift advice

I'm sure a few of you saw my post about love at first sight. Well, we are officially a couple now(YAY!), and both of us are in love(even though we're both to afaid to admit it to each other, we've both lost people for being in love with them when they weren't), Here's my delimna: I'm going on vacation for a week at the end of the month(to visit family down south), and I want to get her some kind of gift before I go. The problem? I'm a HORRIBLE gift giver. Here's some info on her - Georgeous, absolutely perfect physically. Very smart, into all the tech stuff for computers and electronics. A sci fi geek(I should just marry her now I know), favorite movie is star wars and she likes star trek too. I'd like to stay away from jewelry, want to get her something special though. Price range is about $50 to less than $100. Let the ideas flow!

Since you're a couple now, I'd go with something personal - for her to remember you... maybe even a little cheesey that you can laugh about...

One of those build a bear teddy bears, with a voice implant with your voice saying something nice to her -- dressed up as darth vader or something from star wars.. .

a nice framed picture of you...

OOOH classic maleficent cheese

you're only gone for a week so you don't want to go overboard -but antoher is send a card a day (a real card, purchased in a card store.. can be funny, can be sweet can be whatever..)(starting before you leave so that each day you are gone, she gets something in the mail. every day while you are gone... Put stuff in the card - stickers... pop rocks... anything flat... (I am the card queen.. it's fun actually :)

I like the card a day idea. When you're first together it's total infatuation, and you want to spend every second together. If, for some reason, you can't spend every second together, you want to be remined that the other person misses you as much as you miss them. The cards are a nice reminder that you're counting down the days until you see her again- and they're VERY personal and VERY sweet. Trust me, she'll appreciate them and cherish them till the day she dies, much more so than something you bought for her. The more personal the gift, the better (tho I'd stop at cutting off a body part).

I dont ever trust the mail when dave goes out of town, I buy a card for every day he's gonna be gone, write them all up, write his name and a day on the envelope and give them all to him when he leaves, that way he can open one first thing in the morning before he starts his day :)

Shani, are you trying to tell us that you and Dave are still in that infatuation stage? hehehe. :D I hope it lasts forever for you! :)

But yes, for the OP: Girls just keel over when you do super-personal stuff like that, especially if your gesture demonstrates extensive premeditation. :) Listen to Mal and Sage.

My suggestion was going to be the new set of Dr. Who DVDs but those won't be out until July 4th (I'm getting them for my birthday, whoopee!).

As a very-into-computers, sci-fi interested girl...get her an ewok.

Seriously.

Ewok.

THEN do the card-a-day thing, with ewok.

Similar to Snowy, I suggest the season 1 series (only season, heh) of Firefly.

I also approve of the card-a-day. :D So sweet!

YES!!! and then watch it with her... I did that with a girl I dated for a lil while... was awesome...

and I'm gonna have to remember the card a day thing...

but how do you know what day its going to get delivered on... or cant get to a post office wherever you are if its gonna be long enough to have to send them while your away?

My husband did something really cute for me when we first started dating.
He took 3 test tubes, put a piece of clear tape over the top and labled them - "A Hug" , "A Kiss" and "A Nosebite" (he would always nibble on the tip of my nose when we were flirting). 10 years later and I have them saved in my memories box. If he's away (especially when we were living apart for 7 months last year) I take them out and smile.

that's the point behind the card a day - that you are making the time to mail it - and you are thinking of them each day... :D
Generally you know how long mail takes in your area.. just back track from the first day you will be gone... and mail the card then - if it skips a day - so the next day she will have two...

I love the ewok thing. Something cute and kinda fuzzy is always a hit. :)

ktspktsp gave me a stuffed animal doggy once, when I was sad about not getting to take a puppy home from the pet store (puppies always break my heart)... and I am the type who can't sleep without something to hold on to... always have a stuffed animal in my bed, lol. So I have slept with that puppy every night we're apart (which is most weekdays, and every night when I was in Africa last summer). It's a physical reminder of comfort, and it was such a sweet surprise... :)

Might I also mention that when I was in Africa, without e-mail (or anything, really), he wrote me an e-mail every single day, the whole time. I didn't get to read them until I got back to electricity and computers (weeks later), but it meant SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much to me that he did that. Those e-mails are like love letters, and I will always treasure them. :)
