New Bill Could Make Bush President For Life

Prison Planet | June 14 2005

A House bill has been introduced that would change the 22nd amendment and enable George Bush to remain President for the rest of his political life.

The bill would repeal limitations on a President holding office for a maximum of two terms.

An even darker scenario, Arnold Schwarzenegger is elected as President in 2008 and shorty after the 22nd amendment is abolished, making the Hitler admirer our permanent Fuhrer.

This is the modern day version of the Enabling Act, which allowed Hitler to officially declare himself dictator.

The bill, which can be found at the Library of Congress website here, reads as follows.

----------------------------------

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the 22nd amendment to the Constitution. (Introduced in House)

HJ 24 IH
109th CONGRESS
1st Session

H. J. RES. 24
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the 22nd amendment to the Constitution.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

February 17, 2005

Mr. HOYER (for himself, Mr. BERMAN, Mr. SENSENBRENNER, Mr. SABO, and Mr. PALLONE) introduced the following joint resolution; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JOINT RESOLUTION
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the 22nd amendment to the Constitution.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled (two-thirds of each House concurring therein), That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission for ratification:

`Article --

`The twenty-second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is repealed.'.
Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse...

djtestudo 06-14-2005 05:55 PM

First off, that's definately a great site source :p (not complaining, just funny)

Second, I agree that Democratic congressmen like Steny Hoyer are out to overthrow our political system.

Paq 06-14-2005 06:54 PM

i'm ...*REALLY*...hoping this is a joke...

Seaver 06-14-2005 07:03 PM

its from prisonplanet.com... I doubt it holds any truth.

thesupermikey 06-14-2005 08:00 PM

there are dozens of amedments introduced every year. Almost none of them ever make it to committee. This is just some cogressman looking for the political capital in thier district. move on, there is nothing to see here

Ustwo 06-14-2005 09:10 PM

Well I'm not sure this thread belongs in politics, and there is no discussion, but we can all get a kick out of this I'm sure.

Though I thought this picture was more clever back when I saw it like this...

I used to use that one as a wallpaper WAY back when...

Ok I found this while looking around...

isn't there some kind of saying going around about not dimissing something based solely on it's source?

jorgelito 06-14-2005 10:10 PM

Ah, Ustwo, good to see your sense of humor! The "Hello Kitty" is priceless!

I see we're not bothering ourselves with actually reading even the header of a posted article, but going ahead and posting a dismissive one-liner anyway (which is advised against), as it clearly links directly to the bill they're talking about on the government website.

Reading is fundamental, people.

Paq 06-14-2005 11:16 PM

^^^
Hence why i hoped this was a joke

Charlatan 06-15-2005 11:26 AM

This same sort of talk was bandied about when Reagan was in his second term...

theusername 06-15-2005 01:14 PM

Is anyone actually threatened by Bush running again? As it stands now, he'd be trounced by a hat running against him. His approval ratings are in the low 40's and over 60% think the wars going badly.

Watch Arnold's actions in California, is he acting similarily to Hitler? Hell no he isn't. Reducing the size of government, pissing off unions, and trying to let the people vote on his recommendations. Let's see is that Hitleresque? Ignorant speech is abundant!

And how likely do we think it is that even if the proposal were accepted in committee, and passed by congress (unlikely, given the stance of the true majority, and by true majority I mean moderate democrats and republicans), that 3/4 of the state houses would ratify within 7 years?

Hell, our statehouse had to be strong-armed into making the penalty for spousal rape equal that of any other form of rape. They can't agree on the price of a donut.

This is so unlikely as to be undeserving of comment, except for the civics lesson it conveys.

Try Library of Congress, prisonplant just reported on it. How likely is it that the mainstream new will even report on it?

Very unlikely since it means nothing, won't get passed, and doesn't set up Bush to be president for life by any means.

MSD 06-15-2005 03:50 PM

There are pieces of legislation that were referred to committees in the 1930s and still haven't been touched. This has as much chance of passing as Rangel's draft proposal.

guy44 06-15-2005 04:08 PM

This doesn't happen too often, but Ustwo and I completely agree. This is just one of trillions of pie in the sky amendments/bills that gets introduced with no hope of ever seeing daylight.

thesupermikey 06-15-2005 04:42 PM

lets say:
this makes it out of committee
gets a vote in the house and wins
and gets a vote in the senate and wins.
it would still have to be voted on my the states

it could be YEARS before this was made a part of the Constitution

jorgelito 06-15-2005 05:23 PM

In other words, it could be *gasp* Hillary in the White House for life (cue Jaws music).

C'mon it's funny!

Bingo. And the democrats have an amazing ability to find candidates that are significantly worse than the above mentioned hat.

I'm not REAL worried though. I really don't think they could get the required number of states to go for this crap.

Paq 06-15-2005 08:39 PM

i'm not incredibly worried about it passing, just that i don't remember it being brought up during clinton's 2nd run while i do *vaguely* remember it being brought up during reagan's 2nd...

I think that we, as a people, get attached to a leader and feel 'safer' under a known quantity. thankfully, the constitution has been changed to allow us to progress and thankfully, most of the previous presidents respected the 2 term tradition of washington.

I dunno, though...

Ustwo 06-15-2005 08:49 PM

Verily she comes!

Hilary Clinton....

President...

For life...

Repent and may god take your soul.

Pray for those of us, left...behind.

jorgelito 06-16-2005 02:04 AM

Ha! At least Ustwo appreciates my humour! *nyuk, nyuk*

I'll Be back Monday night.

jorgelito 06-16-2005 02:07 AM

Wait, where's the "Hitler" moustache? *blink*

Bookman 06-16-2005 04:41 AM

If we are to dismiss things solely by judging their source we should listen to and believe not one thing your dear president says.

Oh come on Kerry tried that and it didn't work, it won't work again. You recall the DNC cartoon with Bush pushing a senior with a wheelchair down a flight of stairs? Preying on peoples fears rarely works.

Are you kidding? Preying on fears is the premise of negative advertising. It's also the fundamental basis of the invasion of Iraq the second time -- weapons of mass destruction.

A wheelchair going down a flight of stairs? You're kidding right? You're comparing that to the terror color wheel of doom, a bogus war and threats from nowhere?

Ustwo 06-16-2005 07:47 PM

Yes I knew you were refering to Bush.

You may call it scare mongering etc, I call it we were attacked and a shitload of people died, and no matter what was done some people would complain about what was being done. If nothing changed he would be accused of ignoring the problem by those that oppose him, every alert was met with scorn, but had we had an attack and there was no alert the same people bitching about the system would be the ones bitching not enough was done.

Classic "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. By the way, don't forget the false draft rumors either.
