Final Debate Thread....(thank the gods)

This is it .....will Bush Gain ground and actually answer questions he is asked. Will Kerry express his opinion in such a way that we actually Know what he stands for......the world is waiting.

My guess....more of the same, Bush reacting to a continued assault on his failure in Iraq, and his seeming inability to admit such. Kerry going on and on about his "plans" to help American middle classers, and getting far to complex in his answers for the general public.....hope I am wrong

Lebell 10-13-2004 02:27 PM

YEEAARGHHH!!!

cthulu23 10-13-2004 02:31 PM

Man, it's hours away. Are you that eager to bring da pain, Tecoyah? Do we have to get an early start on it?

I won't be here during the debate so please, carry on my brothers, you know how it will end. Bush apologists, start your engines.

Rekna 10-13-2004 02:40 PM

False start 5 yard penalty repeat third down.

tecoyah 10-13-2004 03:04 PM

Damn....just wanted to see what people thought was likely to happen, before the entertainment begins. My apologies for firearms leaping....ah...i mean rifle hurdles....jumping the gun.

cthulu23 10-13-2004 03:10 PM

Hehe, no harm done Tecoyah. I started the accursed Veep debate thread myself. although I feel quite strongly about this election, I can't wait for it to be over.

Mephisto2 10-13-2004 04:05 PM

Funny thread title.

I'm not even American and I'm looking forward to the debate!

Mr Mephisto

Tralls 10-13-2004 04:15 PM

Bush's wire speaker will malfunction, ala Milli Vanilli and we will find out he has been lipsynching this whole time. Well, actually, his horrible display at the first debate should put that to bed!

Rdr4evr 10-13-2004 04:59 PM

This should be fun :).

JumpinJesus 10-13-2004 05:11 PM

What's that look on the President's face?

Rdr4evr 10-13-2004 05:12 PM

Must he always have that look on his face? I think he got it from Daddy.

Yeah, I'm wondering if that's gonna backfire.

pinkie 10-13-2004 05:31 PM

That's the second time...

cthulu23 10-13-2004 05:34 PM

There's no market forces involved in healthcare? What the fuck is he talking about? The market is what dictates that we are bankrupted by healthcare.

cthulu23 10-13-2004 05:36 PM

Introduce high tech to healthcare? Again, Bush is speaking total bullshit.

JumpinJesus 10-13-2004 05:37 PM

and what good is a low premium, high deductible insurance if you can't afford the deductible when you need the care?

tehpronking 10-13-2004 05:37 PM

Personally, I think Bush is doomed. But I don't like Kerry, either. At least he sometimes answers questions, though.

Rdr4evr 10-13-2004 05:39 PM

The moderator is trying to make Bush look good as often as he can.....I dont like him ;).

cthulu23 10-13-2004 05:40 PM

This is the "domestic issues" debate, so it plays into "middle american" ambushes like abortion or gay marriage.

Rekna 10-13-2004 05:42 PM

Bush starting every response with some cynical sarcastic remark? Do you think this helps him or hurts him?

cthulu23 10-13-2004 05:42 PM

"Oh, nevermind...anyway?!"

Kerry, pre-Botox.

matteo101 10-13-2004 06:00 PM

God damnit Bush, throwing off the minimum wage issue RIGHT to education. ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION.

m0ntyblack 10-13-2004 06:00 PM

Catch me if I'm wrong, but I believe Bush just equated the minimum wage at $5.15 an hour, and the last I heard it was $5.35. Does the President of the United States not know what the minimum wage is?

MB

Mephisto2 10-13-2004 06:01 PM

I like the way Bush says "the real question that worker is asking is..."

No it wasn't. They asked about the minimum wage. Don't go off on a tandem!

Mr Mephisto

Mephisto2 10-13-2004 06:04 PM

Good closing comment there from Kerry.

"$89Billion tax cut to the top 1%, yet school kids lost their afterschool care.

You be the judge"

Mr Mephisto

JumpinJesus 10-13-2004 06:12 PM

Maybe its because I'm being partisan, but it seems that Kerry is using Bush's own policies and decisions to make him look foolish.

Minimum wage, assault weapons ban, National Guard, budget issues, etc.

HugAPug 10-13-2004 06:12 PM

Kerry's points on the AWB were quite good, I thought.

Mephisto2 10-13-2004 06:15 PM

I missed the beginning, but so far Kerry seems to be coming out way better.

Bush seems defensive, and keeps grinning at in appropriate times.

Maybe it's just me.

Rdr4evr 10-13-2004 06:17 PM

It is this religion BS that really scares me.

Mephisto2 10-13-2004 06:17 PM

Bush gave a good answer on religion. I'm surprised, but he did well with that reply.

Mr Mephisto

EDIT: So did Kerry. 1:1

HugAPug 10-13-2004 06:19 PM

Did someone just bark when Kerry said "Everything is a gift from the Almighty"?

JumpinJesus 10-13-2004 06:21 PM

Did they call each other before the debate?

"Hey, what tie are you gonna wear?"

"My red dotted one."

"Really?? Me, too!! Ohmigod, I can't believe we're gonna wear the same tie!"

"I know. It's like, gonna be sooooo kewl!"
:p

cthulu23 10-13-2004 06:22 PM

I'm positive there are better people in both parties. Why these two are the best we have from which to choose is a mystery.

In all seriousness, I believe that we deserve better than either of these two.

pan6467 10-13-2004 06:27 PM

It may be just an act, which I seriously doubt, and I maybe very naive, which is extremely possible, but after watching these 3 debates 1 thing truly is apparent to me Bush and Kerry seem to like each other. They disagree but I truly get a sense they respect and like each other.

Most politicians do get along and are friends. Sadly, they perform for the electorate in order to gain votes, which causes us to froth at the mouth and act like <i>we</i> do to each other at times.

Rdr4evr 10-13-2004 06:31 PM

You know what, fuck the mod. He was too bias.

JumpinJesus 10-13-2004 06:35 PM

On msnbc.com, the immediate polling shows John Kerry winning the debate 85% to 15% with 36,000 votes.

There are, but the only places you even have a chance about hearing about them are C-Span and PBS.

As for Bush and Kerry liking each other, I am happy to say I get that feeling as well. I really hope that's the case, because that really speaks to me when someone has the dignity to look beyond political differences, even in such a heightened arena.

CNN just aired the clip from 2002 where Bush said about Osama bin Laden, "...I'm not that concerned about him."

During the debate, after Kerry claimed he said that, Bush said that Kerry must have been exaggerating since he never said that. :hmm:

It may sound corny and all but it is nice to see. It's a far better feeling than Gore/Bush debates....

The big thing I disagree with the FCC and the elections board is that they guarantee equal time to to the big 2 parties but not any other. I feel that they should require equal time to ALL major parties. If there is a candidate on 26 states ballots then he should be given the chance to be heard and not just on C-SPAN and PBS.

Rdr4evr 10-13-2004 06:54 PM

This debate was too "kind", there were far more compliments to one another then there should have been. Thats what happens when it isnt a true debate I guess.

Yep, Bush lost the debate right there, on the first question.

After that, it only got worse. His only good point was when he talked about his wife.
He's lucky he didn't get asked about stem cell research, but I guess if he did he'd just say that the way to solve the problem was through better education. Seriously, he gave that answer to 3 unrelated questions.
The media is calling it a draw, just like last time, but I think the polls will soon show that the American people liked John Kerry better.

Watched NBC tear that apart also. They showed a tape of Bush in March '02 saying he wasn't concerned about OBL and did so with his arrogance.

BUT in all fairness W could have forgotten that.

Rdr4evr 10-13-2004 06:59 PM

Stem Cell was brought up in the last debate....he basically said something along the lines of its not ethical.

Sparhawk 10-13-2004 06:59 PM

My fav line: "Being lectured by the president on fiscal responsibility is a little bit like Tony Soprano talking to me about law and order in this country."

A good debate, better than I expected. Good questions, good followup. I expressed some hesitation to some friends about Scheiffer after I learned that Bush appointed his brother Ambassador, but he proved himself to be the professional his reputation gives him.

tecoyah 10-13-2004 07:09 PM

My observations:

Kerry continued to spew his "plans" but did elaborate a bit on how he intended to pay for them....and actually made some sense this time around.

Bush managed to quote the same three stats his feeble little mind managed to remember way too many times....this made him seem even more hopeless to me.

Kerry showed definate restraint in this debate, and attacked with the same stats his somewhat more capable mind has not only commited to memory, but likely has burned into his retina.

Bush really pushed the "down home cowpoke" bit beyond reason, and actually managed to make an even bigger fool of himself with his attempts to WOW the crowd with humor......pathetic comes to mind.

Kerry tried to appeal to every human in America (except the rich), and most of our pets as well, borderline pandering but possibly effective.

Bush was full blown pandering to his christian base, which turned me off so much I will need a jump in the morning.

All in all, Bush did better here than in the other debates.....which is not a compliment.

Kerry has definately won the debates in this election cycle....regardless of how you try to spin it. It is likely to have very little effect on the election though, as voting irregularities will call the entire thing into question unless (insert all powerful entity here) decides to intervene on our behaf.

Again....just my take.

pan6467 10-13-2004 07:11 PM

[QUOTE=Sparhawk]My fav line: "Being lectured by the president on fiscal responsibility is a little bit like Tony Soprano talking to me about law and order in this country."[QUOTE]

It was funny, the way they showed Bush when he said that and Bush had a puzzled look on his face like he had no idea what Kerry just said.... then it was like he smiled and chuckled a little bit. So it may have taken time for him to get it or he may have just reacted because he felt he had better do something instead of look like a deer in headlights.

Rodney 10-13-2004 07:13 PM

CBS' poll of 200 undecideds showed that 39 percent thought Kerry won, 25 percent thought Bush won, and 36 percent were still undecided. This poll included both truly undecided voters and voters who have a current preference but aren't real firm about it.

CNN's studio group of undecideds found seven for Bush, 10 for Kerry, and I think six still undecided. To win the majority of that group, Kerry only needed to get two more while Bush would need to get five more. If that was indicative of undecided voters as a whole -- and who knows -- Kerry is pulling ahead with that group of voters.

Lebell 10-13-2004 08:19 PM
