Clinton's speech

I'm assuming many of you caught Clinton's speech last night at the convention.

I myself thought it was a terrific speech. Made me want him to be President again.

Highlight for me: where, basically as an aside, he rips apart the administration's economic plan by pointing out that they are funding all of this by hitting Social Security surplus (I think his words were "signing your social security checks over to me") and borrowing from the Japanese (and the Chinese? Don't remember who the others were).

The guy is so damn smart on policy, and he is able to explain it so easily....

darn that 22nd Amendment!

(I really do think that was a bad one, but I oppose term limits, too)

How about a transcript of the speech, for those of us who didn't see it?

ARTelevision 07-27-2004 07:00 AM

It was a great speech.
I don't go along with much of the content but great speeches and great content are two different things, IMO. And my agreement or disagreement with the content of a great speech is irrelevant to its greatness.

I know we're against not posting the whole thing, but the speech is LONG. 6 pages.
So here is the link.

I'm guessing this is the speech as of a few hours before delivery (or even the one from the teleprompter). It's actually a little different from what he said (but not much, I think.)

Missing for example, is the "they need a divided America. We don't." The copy doesn't have the "we don't."

Edit:

Here's a link to the actual speech as delivered

What in the hell does that have to do with anything?

Anyway, I didn't catch the speach. I saw a bit of Gore still being as wooden as always. Too bad he lacks in charm in front of the camera.

Seaver 07-27-2004 09:25 AM

Exactly how I was feeling Art.

I disagree. I think that if he was speaking like that 4 years ago, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Opinions vary. I believe he proved to be an insult to the office and discraced the US worldwide. I have made more money and had better quality of life under Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2, and
Carter (as a teen). Of course I have only been a voting, working American for 24 years. I am sure their are other opinions.

Paq 07-27-2004 07:10 PM

i was making more during clinton's years, as was my entire family, actually..

then again, we were under that tmagic $200k/year number..

You lazy git, you didn't get a job until you were 18?! :)

I'm not sure if you're implying that your experience makes your opinion more valuable, or if you are saying there are those older than you whose opinion may count for more -- but either way, I guess it shakes out to the idea that older people have better formed and more correct opinions. Well, from the young 'uns I offer this tongue in cheek response: cram it with walnuts, oldilocks!

THIS IS ALL IN JEST

I had a good chuckle when he called himself a "foot soldier" in this election.
I thought when the slick one heard the term soldier he would be running to England.

are you honestly trying to use not serving in the military as an arguement against the democrats? with george W's flimsy record I would think this topic would be avoided like the plague.

LewisCouch 07-28-2004 07:49 AM

He certainly can deliver a speech. Too bad, he's set the bar so high for Kerry.

OFKU0 07-28-2004 11:03 AM

With Clinton such a great speaker, it interests me that Hillary is so lacking in that department. Her quasi-monotone forced (fake) applause getters' just don't do it for me. You can tell she was never a cheerleader. Bet Willy picked up some tips though from the cheerleaders he hung with.

Lasereth 07-28-2004 04:00 PM

Clinton's speech was amazing. I'm only 20, so I don't remember a whole lot about Clinton on TV (in my teenage years I didn't give a crap about politics), but wow! I had no idea he was such a good public speaker. It wasn't just the content of his speech, either...it was how it was delivered. It seemed as if he had the entire speech in his head, perfectly planned out. He knew what to say and when. How to deliver the "finishing blow" on some political beliefs. Clinton even degraded himself to show how interesting our economy and White House setup is...it simply strengthened his speech. As Tom Brokaw said, "Bill Clinton, delivering a speech from his most comfortable stance -- in front of a huge audience." It seemed like he was at a family reunion.
