Glock are once again banned in MA

Quote:

Well Glocks for sale in MA only lasted a little over 5 weeks. The Attorney General has squashed the sale of Glocks once again. Glock was approved for sale for the first time since 1998 just 5 weeks ago. Now the AG has decided that he doesn't like the extractor being used as the chamber loaded indicator. Apparently he now wants Glock to drill a hole into the barrel hood like SIG and S&W do. Now it's up to Glock to conform once again and since it took Glock 6 years to jump through the hoops the first time I doubt that they will be in a hurry to do it again.

Soon I'll need a permit to wipe my ass and firearms will be illegal.
Damn hippies.

Why would they specifically ban Glocks?

Because the extractor is the indicator that tells you whether or not the chamber is loaded.

Does it really matter? Isn't it safe?

wonderwench 07-01-2004 09:04 PM

Weapons are banned for cosmetic reasons more than for any other cause.

In CA, a rifle with an expensive scope is outlawed, but the same rifle without is fine. Go figure.

What ever happened to that silly second ammendment? *shrugs* I guess they are just trying to slowly eat away our ability to own guns, so eventually they can rule over us, and we won't have the ability to fight back.

New Jersey's assault rifle defintion includes:

Flash suppressor
Bayonet Lug

I guess they've had a problem with M-1A users banding together in massed bayonet charges on local playgrounds.

NJ is one of the most F.U. places I have ever lived.

Peetster 07-02-2004 03:55 AM

Moved from weaponry, since this is more a political discussion about laws.

cosmoknight 07-02-2004 05:15 AM

Just betting even if the changes are made they will find something else to keep them out of the market. The Glock series has to be the most misunderstood weapon in the history of law.

DelayedReaction 07-02-2004 06:36 AM

As far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as a chamber indicator. You manually check the firearm by pulling the slide back every time it's handed to you.

Bayonets and flash suppressors are actually banned by the Assault Weapons Bill, not just state law. It's a stupid piece of legislature that bans "assault weapons," which are defined as nasty-looking semiautomatics. Not fully automatic (which is regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934), but semiautomatics.

I just hope it sunsets.

Scipio 07-02-2004 07:11 AM

It may be dumb (I honestly wouldn't know), but the government has the power to regulate the safety features of all kinds of legal products. Guns are no different.

Didn't you hear? The number of drive-by bayonettings has decreased drastically since the AWB was passed.

Time to pimp my thread. Anyone who has any interest in making sure that the AWB sunsets should look at this thread now.

The problem is that this isn't really regulation, it's the banning of weapons that look evil. Most of the provisions in the AWB focus on cosmetic items such as flash suppressor (little doo-dads on the front of the gun that keep you from being blinded by a flash) and pistol grips on rifles.

It's kind of like the US Government banning cars with spoilers that curve up, but allowing spoilers that curve down to be legal. Or in this case MA banning Fords but not Chevies.

Stupid, stupid world.

In this case, it's a state banning anything they can, with any sort of justification they can find.

Pray explain that to the rest of the class.

Meh....Everyone just need to move to Oklahoma. The only things illegal here are what is in the AWB.

Full autos and suppressors are fine as long as you follow the federal guidelines.

Basically, it indicates whether or not there is a bullet in the chamber - whether or not if you pull the trigger the gun will fire or if you need to "cock" it first...

DelayedReaction 07-08-2004 11:17 AM

Glocks are entirely enclosed systems; there isn't a hammer that you can see on the outside to tell you if it's cocked or not. A chamber indicator is basically a port that you can see a bullet through, and therefore know if the bullet is loaded.

It's a stupid feature, and should never be relied upon. Stuff could feasibly get inside the indicator and provide a false positive (or negative if the stuff is dark), and you NEVER want any kind of uncertainty when it comes to firearms.

You're supposed to check that a gun is loaded every time it's handed to you, even if someone says it isn't.
