McCain....My hero

Just one more reason I love this guy (non-literal), he seems to actually "get it".

McCain revives ban on internet taxes.

Aletheia 04-24-2004 07:06 PM

That man is awesome.

"While rewriting the ban on Internet access taxes, House lawmakers broadened it to cover DSL, satellite and cable hookups."

Good job McCain. I have been waiting for that.

Funny as hell, too. Great sense of humor in any interview I've seen with him.

bermuDa 04-25-2004 11:58 PM

I don't think internet connections should be taxed... transactions conducted over the internet, however....

It's funny, because 5 years ago, if you asked me if I thought McCain would be a good president or if he could even be considered as someone qualified to be President, I would have laughed in your face.

McCain is one of my Senators, and I have met him and worked with him on issues. He has not always been such a "straight-shooter" and he has a very nasty temper. However, over the past few years he really has come into his own. He has become an independent thinker and is really becoming a statesman, much like the man who's seat he took - Barry Goldwater.

I would be much more interested in a McCain vs Nader presidential election than Bush vs Kerry.

One thing I didn't notice in that article was any mention of wireless data connections. The quote was:
While rewriting the ban on Internet access taxes, House lawmakers broadened it to cover DSL, satellite and cable hookups.

Aletheia 05-01-2004 06:37 PM

Right now the government seems to want to keep wireless as red tape free as possible.

Most of McCain's political positions, I'm against. Yet I'm absolutely sure that he's a man of bravery, integrity, and intelligence. If he were president, he'd definitely try to do the right thing by the country. And if he turned out to be wrong about some things (and I think he is) he'd be big enought to admit it if proven wrong, and change directions as needed.

While Bush and McCain seem to be similar on many ideological issues, we'd be in a much different place right now if McCain was president. It's not just about the ideology, it's about the quality of the man.

McCain has some good politics:

McCain would do well as President I think. He's one of few Republicans liberals don't seem to hate too much. Pretty spot-on with my beliefs on the big issues as well.

Mondak 05-03-2004 08:27 PM

I wish he had beaten Bush 4 years ago. This country would be a better place.

These two are very different. The most glaring thing is that McCain does not pander to the religious right.

McCain is fiscally conservative and socially moderate mirroring the views of most of mainstream America. He is pro-choice, believes heavily in freedom of speech, and really looks for a seperation between church and state. Bush continues to try and censor the airwaves, funds faith based initiatives and is pro-life.

From a fiscal standpoint, in general the people of this country who pay taxes are willing to do so to a point but overall want to be rewarded for more work (or more investment as the case may be). Risk and return is a cornerstone to capitalism and McCain consistantly defends that.

Free speech?

Have you seen the campaign finance laws that he sponsored?

Yes, but I did not see anything that was against free speech. Maybe you can elaborate a little or point me to a specific part I can re-read. I don't think any of these guys are too great when it comes down to it, but so far I have agreed with his ideas.
