Martha being found guilty reminded me of good old Ken Lay.

Is he currently being charged with anything?

No, and conventional wisdom was that he won't be, because he wasn't really involved with the operations of Enron, just promoting the company, rubber stamping, etc.. Now that the real players have made deals with the prosecutors, who knows?

he is at the Bush ranch....drinkin' shots and laughin'.

/shrug, I don't know all that much about the situation. Someone mentioned Bush and Lay might be friends, so I looked that up. I also tossed out an article from http://news.google.com

It does seem strange that the CEO of a corperation drenched in corruption and theft is getting off scot free. I was just trying to get more information, possibly from people who followed the case more. dy156 was helpful, but brief.

I don't know about Lay, but they finally went after that theif Jeffery Skilling, and Bernie Ebbers, the other theif.

Things like this take a LOT of time to untangle.

Skilling is most likely screwed.

Next in line is Lay, the question is will he be able to get away with being the naive front man, or will they find he had something to do with it. I think we WILL get the truth on this one, since there is no way Skilling will take the full wrath of the court if he can put some of it on Lay.

Also what people forget is that Enron asked the Bush admin for help and was told no. Robert Rubin the former CLINTON treasury secretary tried to work out a deal for Enron with the Bush admin. Whats really funny is the democrats on the investigating committee in the senate (which they controlled at the time) REFUSED to call him to testify. They didn't want this to be anything but a Bush scandal which is quite ridiculous. They had no desire to find out the truth.

Since you brought up Clinton.

I would like to note that the Clinton Admin barred Enron from doing business in Cali, which Bush reversed when he got in office.

Can't find any referance to what you said, but so what. The Clinton administration had extensive dealings with Enron, as did Gray Davis who took over $140,000 in campaign contributions from Enron.

So I ask of you, did you have a point?

As ustwo said, these cases take a looong time to come to court and the details of Lay's involvement haven't been made clear. The argument that Bush is taking care of his buddy is completely unsubstantiated by any facts. In contrast, there has been evidence presented that said Enron leaders attempted to get the Bush administration to step into the inquiry and wield their power but they refused.

In some cases CEO's are figureheads while in others they control virtually every action of a corporation. As with anything, they are innocent until proven guilty of something, after all isn't that a fundamental principle of our nation?

So, neither the Republicans, nor the Democrats, come out clean on this one. Is that what I'm hearing? Well, that surprises this Libertarian, not one bit.

Neither of the two major political parties is going to be able to take the high road on this one, because this time it's not about party idealogy. It's about personal culpability.

OK ....OK. So instead of one corrupt administration with blatant ties to corp. america. We have a string of administrations that may have been a bit better at hiding ties. That in no way makes the Bush administration corruption any better. We can do nothing about past presidents and their staffs. We can however do something about this one, and hopefully change the underlying problems that have lead to the corruption.
Anyone who has the gaul to defend this administrations cabinet, and ties, either does not understand what the data points to, or simply does not care.
The American political system is broken...it is up to the people to fix it.

Both parties too MONEY from Enron, but only one party seemed to do favors for them and it was not hte republicans. So no, I think a party can take the high road on this one.

In 1999, after everyone was tired of the whole Lewinsky debacle, the bill that created the organization that privately investigates all the Presidents actions, (formed after watergate) was not renewed.

Just thought I would revive a Ken Lay thread that had some of the most absurd Bush bashing in it, why isnt there a new thread pointing out that he has been arrested and charged with fraud?
