Sigh, the French bashing gets so old. They don't have air conditioners - for the most part, they don't need them. So when it gets hot, people have nothing. The government could've done more, but the U.S. could've done more to prevent Sept. 11. So stop looking for wounds to stab and drop the nationalist bullshit.

Double D 09-10-2003 02:54 PM

Thank you Skank0r.
What is the word, enthnocentrism?
Even Canada lagged behind the States in air conditioning by about 10 years.
A few Yanks think the whole rest of the world is just like here. :Sigh:

Marius1 09-10-2003 03:01 PM

Its only in recent years that Brittish cars have Air Condiontioning as an option.

It will be quite some time before homes do. Rip off Britain means such things are just way too expensive.

Its supply and demand. Its cheap in the US as the profits are spread across higher demand.

Low depend means you have to hike the price up to make a living. Higher the price also means that less places can afford it.

XenuHubbard 09-11-2003 07:29 AM

I don't know anybody who has airconditioning in Sweden.
Everybody has it in Taiwan.

Ooooh, I guess Sweden is just a poor country with a stupid stupid government.

*snore*

I don't know why people to continue to waste their time on a) dissing celebrities who have an opinion and b) arguing with idiots that diss celebrities.

In order for a democracy to funtion a myriad of opinions of opinions should be welcome. If you have a problem with what someone has to say, assasinating their character (i.e. Depp is an idiot, etc.) doesn't help. Why not defend your position (as some have done here).

Otherwise just STFU... You aren't adding anything.

And where's yours? I didn't know you needed one to comment. Silly me.

He really has a point with the fries thing.

samremy 09-11-2003 10:08 PM

He should have specified, calling Bush a stupid, aggressive puppy dog, would've been more accurate.

cowlick 09-15-2003 05:20 AM

Not actually reading this entire thread...
Isn't stupid and agressive the same thing the movie critics called Johnny's last two movies?

Johnny Depp is one of the greatest young american actors. I don't care if I disagree with him. He makes good movies. I don't care if the guy at Krispy Kream thinks I'm a moron, they make good donuts. Who cares.

DownwardSpiral 09-16-2003 04:12 PM

I could care less what Depp called America, Johnny Depp kicks ass!

filtherton 09-16-2003 05:29 PM

I agree with Depp. America is an aggressive widdle puppy. Apparently very thin-skinned too. And now it seems as if this puppydom has helped us wedge ourselves in between a rock and a hard place in our very own occupied territories.

LewisCouch 09-17-2003 09:02 AM

Yawn.

debaser 09-17-2003 02:16 PM

Did everyone miss the part where he didn't actually say it?

For the love of God, end this thread...

desdes 09-19-2003 08:35 AM

Hehe.. more actors taking time between their cocain sessions to put in their two cents.

hunnychile 09-20-2003 05:27 PM

Johnny Depp has balls. Bravo! We who have traveled the world over revel in those who are American and can openly criticize her without fear of payback from the right. No one said Johnny was a political genious, but I bet he'd still do a better job for us than old "Shrub" and Company (i.e. Enron, haliburton and all the Oil and energy companies) have done for us. We need to remove the Republicans on every level of government and fast or else life as you and I know it will be a thing of the past. They own the media. All the slants therein and funny how so many radical and true soundbites "bite the dust" and fats.
How long before they crush wonderful sites such as TFP for some lame excuse or whatever? Let's enjoy these people who aren't afraid of the truth.

Seen "Bowling for Columbine" yet......see?

I saw Johnny Depp on either Letterman or Leno...someone tell him he's not Jim Morrison in France and that France has no business being on the Security Council, nor in giving advice on anything more complicated than cooking.

Make sure you read this bit too.
Michael Moore responds to the wacko attackos

BigGov 09-24-2003 07:09 PM

Lets read some facts:

Quote:

Weeping children outside Columbine;

Cut to Charlton Heston holding a musket and proclaiming "I have only five words for you: 'from my cold, dead, hands'";

Cut to billboard advertising the meeting, while Moore intones "Just ten days after the Columbine killings, despite the pleas of a community in mourning, Charlton Heston came to Denver and held a large pro-gun rally for the National Rifle Association;"

Cut to Heston (supposedly) continuing speech... "I have a message from the Mayor, Mr. Wellington Webb, the Mayor of Denver. He sent me this; it says 'don't come here. We don't want you here.' I say to the Mayor this is our country, as Americans we're free to travel wherever we want in our broad land. Don't come here? We're already here!"

The portrayal is one of an arrogant protest in response to the deaths -- or, as one reviewer put it, "it seemed that Charlton Heston and others rushed to Littleton to hold rallies and demonstrations directly after the tragedy." The portrayal is in fact false.

Fact: The Denver event was not a demonstration relating to Columbine, but an annual meeting (see links below), whose place and date had been fixed years in advance.

Fact: At Denver, the NRA canceled all events (normally several days of committee meetings, sporting events, dinners, and rallies) save the annual members' meeting; that could not be cancelled because corporate law required that it be held. [No way to change location, since you have to give advance notice of that to the members, and there were upwards of 4,000,000 members.]
Lets see Moore's response.

Quote:

The "Truth": Heston took his NRA show to Denver and did and said exactly what we recounted. From the end of my narration setting up Heston's speech in Denver, with my words, "a big pro-gun rally," every word out of Charlton Heston's mouth was uttered right there in Denver, just 10 days after the Columbine tragedy.
I read that bit. It's full of bullshit too.

Good advice. This thread has been pretty much useless for a while now. Same BS over and over.

It ends now.
