Religion and Politics - Pat Robertson
Has anyone seen or heard any of this garbage that this guy Pat Robertson is spreading? If not, here's a quick run-down on this situation...
Since the Supreme Court's decision to legalize consensual sodomy in the state of Texas (or elsewhere, of which I am uninformed as to what states were affected by the Supreme Court's decision). Now this guy Pat Robertson acting under a guise of "morality" is holding a prayer-a-thon (I don't know if this is still going on, but its still news to me). He wants to see the Supreme Court repeal its decision because, like most extremists (be they political or religious) hate homosexuals because in these extremist circles, homosexuals are considered nothing short of an abberation of nature that should be supressed (and if these circles got half the chance, not only supression, but annihilation as well). I myself am not a homosexual, but I understand the plight of these people to be understood and free to do as they please like any other human being living in the United States (or the world, for that matter). Mr. Robertson calls this effort of his "Operation Supreme Court Freedom" (no, I'm not making this up, google that phrase). Now how in the hell does he have the balls to use the word "freedom" in this act of thinly-veiled hate? He wants to see the freedoms of people stripped away. It's none of his goddamn business what people do in their bedrooms. If he's so concerned about "morality", why doesn't he practice morality instead of trying to convince people that the common good depends on oppressing a certain group of Americans? It seems anymore that "freedom" has become a relative term that only applies to rich old guys who can buy TV time to funnel this hate of people to the masses like so much shoveled dirt. To make a long story short, this guy is full of shit. Just another Right-Wing Christian Republican hater with an agenda.

As a heterosexual it would be easy to brush past this, but I believe the issue is definately about freedom.
Freedom of choice. We have Fred Nile over here in Australia but fortunately he's a bigger fuckwit than Pat Robertson and doesn't have much influence anymore. He used to try to stop the gay mardi gra every year and gave up cause no one was listening. Much smaller country here obviously but I can imagine the protests being violent.

If I saw him in real life, I'd throw something at him. Probably a rock.
Can't stand people like that.

He is exercising his First Amendment right. That's it. I'm not taking a stance on the issue, but it seems to me that is what you should be doing. Not blasting someone for his right of free speach. The Supreme Court's action is a hot button for many people. Please focus your thoughts. Moderate yourself or be moderated.

I saw a clip from Robertson's prayer broadcast; he was calling on the Lord to "bring down your hand heavily" on three of the six people who voted for the decision.
Well, what could that mean? Three of the people who voted for it are either very old or have health problems. It was pretty clear that he asking people to pray that they get sick or die so that they can be replaced. Of course, if any of those judges (he was only targeting three of the six, probably the ones that are most liberal) leaves or dies before the next presidential election (meaning Bush gets to pick a replacement), Robertson will probably say it's God's will. Robertson gets more mean-spirited and extreme by the year, so maybe this is a good thing. Might turn off some of his "followers". |

Well, up here in Canada, we recently had a court decision that legalized gay marriages. I'm sure Mr. Robertson had apoplexy over that one!.
Now the federal government is coming up with legislation to allow these marriages. A right wing Christian knob is starting up an ecumenical movement of religious nazis to threaten every politician, saying they'll make sure he or she is not reelected if they vote for it. Freedom - but only to do it their way! |

What I find interesting is that he hosts the 700 Club, yet he gave up his ordination in 1988 so he could pursue more "profitable" methods of making a living.
What a dickhead that guy is.

I simply find it disturbing how someone like Pat Robertson is calling upon God to smite people he doesn't agree with. And what scares me more is I think he's trying to get some crazies so psyched up about it, that they WILL kill the three justicies.
And I thought Christianity was supposed to include "Love thy Neighbor", not "Love thy Neighbor when he agrees with you". It really is silly. And I must apologize - I do not mean to offend honest followers of Christianity or those of any religion, its just this guy is a lunatic.

If you want to understand what slime the man is, check out his support of brutal dictator Charles Taylor . Taylor is one of the nastier pieces of work around, but Robertson is in bed with him, and using his religious authority to try to prevent the present administration from getting him out of Liberia.

What a rat-bastard. I'm tired of two-faced scum like him. Dammit, where's a revolution when you need one?
